This is somehow vaguely familiar. Going back almost ten years ago and Colgrass actually came to our university symphonic band to work with us. The bell part was performed by a professional level hand bell choir. Colgrass I believe is a percussionist hence why the percussion part is weird. Had some good stories about Stravinsky though! (Spoiler: Stravinsky was terrible at conducting and would offer booze mid recording).
At one point, Colgrass played percussion on an album of Stravinsky's music where Stravinsky himself conducted. As far as I understand, as soon as it was known that Stravinsky was the conductor, Colgrass is quoted as saying: "And that's when we knew that we were doing Firebird without a conductor." Ha!
I think people are confused on the squiggles since the music itself isn't that hard. It has some pretty basic rythms. It might also be on trying to find your place with all the random playinh in the background. We started playing this yesterday for band and I got confused at first as well.
I play bassoon, everyone in the band is so confused.. In the bassoons part, it's not that difficult except for the high notes... Bassoon isn't meant for that
Lmaooo imagine being the person that has to play aluminium kitchen bowls 🙄🙄😳😳

Totally excellent! UI love Mchael Colgrss, discovered him on Turnabout 34704, Concertmasters for three violins and orchestra.
Played this in All-state band. By far the weirdest song i've played, but it was very unique.

Talk to your teacher about the confusion-- we believe in you!
Why is it confusing?
@@Jzzmus It's basically randomly playing.

As a trombone player and not playing a lot I had to listen to all of the weird noises and it gave me big anxiety :)
i hate this with a burning passion, not because its hard, but because i barely get to play (this is coming from a second trombone)
does- does that say "bowls" WHAT
We’re playing this in wind ensemble right now. As a percussionist, I say this is super boring to play
