    Custom fit sandals! that's awesome! Vietnam is the land of being pampered. You might want to add a weekly massage to your schedule. I used to get a massage every week back in 2006 for $20. Two ladies would give me a massage for an hour. It was a legit massage and no happy ending but boy did I feel relaxed.

    • @ExpatInterview
      @ExpatInterview  Місяць тому +9

      I have been considering this! I have never had a message by a stranger in my life. I’m just not a touchy feely type. Not sure how I could deal with even two strange women touching me unless it was all about happy ending. Then at least I have purpose!! 😜

      I would have to say no, to “a lot” of English speaking locals. There are “a lot” of English speaking expats though!
      The other thing is they often don’t seem to understand what Google Translate comes up with either.
      That being said, somehow, I haven’t considered it a big problem. Nearly all menus in restaurants are in English and it seems like I’m able to communicate what I have to.

      I highly recommend UHCSafetrip.com for travel/medical coverage.
      As far as things to see, I can recommend that you look on booking sites and review excursions that you may like and enjoy for the areas that you are in because we all enjoy different types of things.
      My channel doesn’t focus on travel activities, I’m more into the way of life and costs associated with living in different parts of the world with current concentration of SE Asia.
      I can recommend one of my favorite fellow UA-camrs who channel is all about traveling and great places to see and he has a complete series dedicated to Vietnam, Paddy Doyle!

    • @ExpatInterview
      @ExpatInterview  Місяць тому +8

      Hi, and first, thanks for watching! Why I left Florida?!! Well, several reasons, starting with the cost of living. In the recent years since COVID prices have escalated drastically! The home I was renting for $875 p/mo. went up to $1,650. Once I retired it was just not affordable to me anymore, and I wasn't going to keep working just to live in Florida. Secondly, Have been planning for 10 years to leave the US when I retired and I've gotten so tired of the political landscape in the entire US that I got to the point that I just didn't want to live anywhere in the country. Hate, has consumed America. If I were you, I would stay in Thailand.

      Many travel insurance policies cover medical coverage as well. The policy I mentioned in the video will United Healthcare covers medical 100%. Most typical medication are $8 for a month supply. The expenses I showed are including all these expenses and still less than $1,200 p/mo. My first Vietnam video shows a medication purchase.
      It would be real hard to spend $3,000 p/mo in Vietnam unless you were renting a 3 bedroom condo right on the beach and eating all western foods at restaurants every day.

    We are hosts and use airbnb, booking, vrbo and trip advistors. Booking is by far the WORST of them all. None of them are perfect but as time passes you'll discover how bad booking is, if you continue to use them.

    • @ExpatInterview
      @ExpatInterview  7 днів тому

      Thanks for watching. So far although I’m happier with Booking my goal is to work around them all. This raises a few questions I would like to ask you.
      1. As a Host would you prefer guests try to contact you directly without using the platforms, and if so would/do you offer a better rate?
      2. Where is your STR?
      3. You may not recall the platform models prior to the “booking” platforms but they used to be a website that owners posted their properties (an ad) on and managed all the inquiries and bookings in their own. We had booking calendars so people could look at dates that were available. The only cost to the owner was a reasonable annual cost of the ad, maybe $130 or so, I don’t really remember. Would you prefer it to return to a model like this?

    I completely hear you about Airbnb, trust me. I had a pathological liar host add a bunch of lies about me and it has been hard to rent ever since. I don't have time to bid on 3-4 places before someone accepts me, nevermind the disgusting hosts in places like the US or France who expect you to clean the place with a toothbrush down to the last speck while still charging a fortune for cleaning. But booking sadly isn't a solution either. It really depends on the city & country. In some places, Booking has just as good or even better places at the same or less cost. In other places, booking has absolutely nothing. Literally, nothing. Or only hotels that are $3000-5000 per month. So unfortunately, I have to be pragmatic and realize Airbnb is a company I have to stay on good terms with.
