- Laws to “modernise the asylum and immigration system” will underpin the Government’s bid to launch a security border command, paid for by money saved from the scrapped multimillion-pound stalled Rwanda plan.
The Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, announced in the King’s Speech, will establish the new Home Office unit, using counter-terror powers to fight organised immigration crime, documents detailing the plans said.
The Bill, which will apply across the UK if passed, will ensure “secure and stronger borders and a properly controlled and managed asylum system”, the Government vowed, as it repeated general promises to clear the asylum backlog, to end the use of hotel accommodation and increase “fast-track returns for individuals coming from safe countries”.
Kevin O'Sullivan slams Keir Starmer for "mischaracterising" the problem of the migrant crisis by saying they will "smash the gangs".
Kevin says: "It's a disaster!"
Isabel Oakeshott: "Even if his fantasy came true, small operators would start up - how this all started!"

Exactly. Also, the French are literally paid for nothing (and why would they bother doing anything about it? They get rid of a problem, and Britain sends ships to pick them up, so clearly the UK government wants them to come). The only thing the French should be paid for is for allowing the Royal Navy to tow the boats back to France.
Quite clear Starmer isn't interested in stopping them. There's no way anyone with his level of legal training doesn't understand that ' the gangs' are not the problem. He's a human rights lawyer isn't he? With a history of fighting for illegal migrants rights.

Claims by the French that they cannot stop the boats is nonsense. The inflatable boats do not magically appear. Security services must be capable of finding the supply route and i am sure they already have. Criminal offences, connected to this trafficking, are being committed under French law. I do not accept the French authorities have no powers to seize these vessels on the supply route.
