A strong "relationship" connection for me - a lost Love! Probably not uncommon. I agree about the comments about Marty Balin's voice. This is all "Marty Balin" for me, more than Starship. Being both spiritual AND a romantic, I have always loved the verse about "I know that Love is the answer. It's holding the world together, ain't nothing better at all." If fact I stole the line "I feel like swirling and dancing whenever you're walking with me", when walking with my Love. Hey if you read these Daniel, I just discovered you this week and am really enjoying the channel brother. Loved re-visiting Quadrophenia, over the last couple of days.
"It is 7 minutes long, so I think we're in for a treat..." Please make sure your seatbelts are fastened and your tray tables stowed in their upright locked position.
This is not only a pretty sexy song, Daniel. This is a seductive song. I mean these lyrics Oh My Goodness! ! Makes me blush, every time. I’m gonna pass out.
1975 (another great year for music). Loved this song when it came out, was different from what on the radio at the time, good feelings ... Some may note that Starship with a slightly different lineup in 1985, had a #1 Hot 100 hit with We Built This City (written by Bernie Taupin and another, sorry), that was later criticized by media as one of the worst songs ever!
Jefferson Airplane was Marty Balin's band which he started with Paul Kantner, he lost control of it when other members wanted to get more psychedelic and political. They didn't care for his romantic ballads but when Kantner formed Jefferson Starship those ballads were big hits. JS wanted more commercial success and Marty gave it to them, eventually becoming a full time member. Kantner and Balin are both gone now and Slick is retired. I think Jorma Kaukonen (guitarist) and Jack Casady (bassist) are still working.
I was looking for reactions to the Indigo Girls and Sarah McLachlan, and there are only a few out there. You could start with a song they did together in 1997 on the Lillith Fair tour, "The Water Is Wide". This is an old folk song(roots in the 1600s) covered in various forms over the years by many artists(Pete Seeger started the modern version), and the Indigo Girls version is very good(see the Club R&R live performance). I saw it live at the first Lillith Fair concert that the Indigo Girls were at, and performed it with Sarah (but not also Jewel). This is the performance on the DVD: ua-cam.com/video/d32rALuwRtQ/v-deo.html For an Indigo Girls song to start with, check out "Kid Fears" live from the Uptown Lounge with Michael Stipe from R.E.M. For a Sarah McLachlan song you could do the popular "Angel"(ua-cam.com/video/l3ceD1O5vhQ/v-deo.html) or "Sweet Surrender".
Remember the story of Jekyll and Goliath, I believe it was called? Well, Airplane and Starship are a bit like that. As are pre- and post- Stevie and Peter. There was an edge and then there was none. I exaggerate, but 'tis a morsel therein. This here is a fine and beautiful song and more emblematic of the shiny new Starship. Airplane was raw yet Graceful, Slick but not slippery. And psychedelic as funk. Haight-Ashbury. The movie "Flashback" has some great Airplane going on.
Marty Balin was the romantic of the Jefferson Airplane but he was pretty much sidelined by the heavier sound Paul Kantner brought to the band with album After Bathing at Baxter's. Marty was briefly able to bring the romance back on the first Jefferson Starship album Dragon Fly with "Caroline" and this song from Red Octopus. And what a voice!
@@Hartlor_Tayley And "It's No Secret" from Takes Off. Great stuff from their Folk Rock roots, as was Surrealistic Pillow. I agree that Jack and Jorma did the ... can we call it... the "heavy lifting" on Baxter and beyond, I think due to Encountering Hendrix. But it was Kantner writing most of the songs.
@@syater it’s interesting to listen to Hot Tunas Phosphorescent Rat album where there a couple of very airplane like songs. But yes kantner wrote more and Marty wrote less but I think Baxter’s which they say was mainly Spencer’s project, he left after Altamont and that was when it all fell apart imho.
@@Hartlor_Tayley Wow. I'm afraid I've remained completely unaware that Baxter's was mainly Spencer's project. Other than his drumming I would guess "A Small Package..." was his only contribution. I'd be interested to hear more.

You should check out Nothing going to stop us now by Jefferson starship. You will like it.
Some may note that Starship with a slightly different lineup in 1985, had a #1 Hot 100 hit with We Built This City (written by Bernie Taupin and another, sorry), that was later criticized by media as one of the worst songs ever!
which prolly helped it to make even more money ! NOTHING number 1 can be that bad ...look at EBONY and IVORY
Yep, and drummer Spencer Dryden has passed also.
You gotta pay attention to the words a little chilling, overall a GREAT song.
Might just be THE most intensely intimate, romantic and sexy songs ever written!

This is the performance on the DVD: ua-cam.com/video/d32rALuwRtQ/v-deo.html
For an Indigo Girls song to start with, check out "Kid Fears" live from the Uptown Lounge with Michael Stipe from R.E.M.
Jekyll and Hyde
Davey and Goliath
@@bobangell1679 Davey, Davey, Davey. How could I forget? Thanks!
Today and coming Back to Me. From the surrealistic pillow album are so incredibly good. Marty put the magic in that band
When jack and Jorma left to for Hot Tuna, they pretty much took that heavy element with them
@@Hartlor_Tayley And "It's No Secret" from Takes Off.
Try this track from their next album (Spitfire) - "St.Charles" - they rock a LOT harder: ua-cam.com/video/d4BxmjFuF_0/v-deo.html
or from their debut album (Dragonfly) - "Ride the Tiger": ua-cam.com/video/lZOx8jM7xhM/v-deo.html
I love the St. Charles video. I watch it all the time.
'St. Charles' is one of those great lost songs of the 70's.
Starship had an uneven career (imo) but this is a very nice number. They were definitely more middle-of-the-road than their Airplane incarnation was, at least as they got older.
That’s true but as their style was more middle of the road they usually maintained a certain quality
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee THE BAND RELEASED his singles in the 70s more than anyone ELSE even though he is a butterfly and came and went as he chose .... after the second time he was replaced for quite a while !
jefferson starship in the 80s was crunchier than airplane ever could BE!
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee thats your pathetic opinion ! Mickey sings for an hour and a half all hits except the two grace slick songs that some girl does with starship ! GRACE SLICK is the original QUEEN OF ROCK AND ROLL have some respect for american rock royalty ! PUNK
