I love ELO, my first rock album I got in 3rd grade was Out of the Blue. They are amazing, enjoy the journey! I did a cover of this song on acoustic guitar on my UA-cam channel as well as a Bowie song (Life on Mars) you will probably become aware of. I know you eventually will, no hurry. Ha, so glad you’re digging them, Led Zeppelin and others.. Keep rocking!!!
Also, this song hits so hard nostalgically cuz it couldn’t be written today. There was no cellphones or VM back then. He says to the operator “can you just let it ring a little longer, longer”. If you were heartbroken, there was no social media to check if they are on vacation or just got back. You were completely in the dark. When someone broke up with you in the 1970’s, they got in a taxi and you never saw them again. One week later, they could have moved to the other side of the world and you’d never know, ever. BTW, Jeff Lynne may be the most genius musician ever. Lennon and McCartney wrote more hits but for raw overall talent, it’s hard to find some who tops Lynne. If you go down the rabbit hole of ELO, you’ll freak.
Another great band that just reinforces the fact that the bands of the 70s and the music magic they created will never be duplicated, it was simply the greatest era for music
One of my favorite bands of all time. Their catalogue of songs is huge. If you ever feel sad put their music on and it will take your blues away. I did notice you smiling while listening to them, you just can’t help it.
Beautiful tune by one of the best. Just so you know, back then, the phone only went as far as the cord allowed, and voice mail didn't happen for another twenty years, and sometimes you needed an operator to place a call.
There was no voice mail back in the day. Some people had answering machines but not everybody had them. With land lines, it cost a lot to call long distance which may have been just one town away from you so it could get expensive to carry on a long distance relationship. The rates went down after like 9:00 so a lot of people waited to call their loved one, especially if they were going to talk for a long time. And some calls required the assistance of an "operator" who would connect the call. So when he said, "can't you just let it ring a little longer, longer, longer", he was probably talking to the operator.
Lol, there was no voice mail back in the day! We just let it ring and ring and ring. Sometimes if they never picked up, you would call the operator to check the line and make sure it was working. We didn't have the technology to text, email or leave a voicemail..we just sat there with broken hearts waiting and hoping they would answer. Great reaction, ELO is Spectacular!!!
Such timeless, feel-good music! I think my favorite of theirs is "Evil Woman", but it's really hard to choose from their many amazing songs. Loved your reaction!
Another classic. Great reaction ELO have a huge catalogue of great songs On your journey you will find Jeff Lynne collaborate with 4 others Bob Dylan, George Harrison (beatles) Tom Petty Roy Orbison in the Travelling Wilburys They released 2 albums. That is something special.
It is the first time I have come across your channel tonight (in the UK). You're good man! I was just a kid when the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) started and I've followed their career. Yes Jeff Lynne is the singer - a great one. He is a multi-instrumentalist, but is mostly known for his electric guitar work. More than all that, he was the main songwriter for ELO. The guy is just brilliant.
ELO has a lot of good songs. It's cool to watch their live videos to see the interaction between the rock musicians and the orchestral musicians. Some other good songs by them include: Livin' Thing, Don't Bring Me Down, Mr. Blue Sky, Do Ya, Evil Woman, Can't Get It Out of My Head, All Over the World, Showdown, Shangri-La, Turn To Stone, Sweet Talkin' Woman, Strange Magic, Tightrope.
Ohhh I’m soo happy you are loving this!! They put on such a show So much going on Maybe do a living thing And Mr blue sky next Loveeee this!! Thank you man!!❤✌🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What beautiful memories this brings back! Thank you for taking a listen 🎧 and appreciating the music us old people grew up with.. take care and please keep listening to music 🎶
You are so right ……. The thing that gets me, is people are singing, and DANCING !!!! When was the last time u saw people dancing ……. Brings tears to me everytime I listen to this 🥰
When this song came out, there was no such thing as voicemail or answering machines. When you called someone, if they were on the phone, you got a busy signal (tone). If no one picked up, it would ring “forever more”... Lots more from ELO. This was one of many of a superb catalogue.
MDreeezy I've been an ELO fan for almost 50 years here in the UK and it still makes me cry, please check out earlier ELO LP's like Eldorado, Face the Music
ELOs music consists of a high vibration and frequency . Top 5 bands of all time IMO . This is Jeff lynne's modern band version. Original members along with Jeff are inducted into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame.
Thanks for letting the song play through, loved watching you react. Here's another vote for ELO's "All Over The World" -- but be sure you choose a version with videos of people literally around the world dancing to the song. :)
Such a huge catalogue, a very influential band from "back in the day" jeff sounds virtually the same on the studio version. ELO, & 10cc, were great story telling bands from the UK. Good to see you taking in our "old bastard music" it gives us old farts hope for the future of music. 👍🎶
Jeff Lynne (who is from my home City of Birmingham, UK) is a musical genius and producer.E.L.O. had loads of great songs and sounded just as good (if not better) live than they did on the studio versions. Jeff is 70+ here and still sounds great. My favourite is 'All Over The World' which is a very happy song. There are flash mob videos on YT showing people dancing to it.
You should do a reaction to the album “Eldorado”. It’s some of Jeff Lynne’s best work. He is a musical genius and also produced for many other huge icons.
Back then there was no voicemail, no answering machine, and they either answered of you let it ring (forever more), until you hung up. Weird to think about now.
I'd like to suggest my favorite ELO song, *"Evil Woman".* It's awesome, you'll love it. Use the studio version for your first reaction. I'm not a fan of people reacting to live versions before they've reacted to the studio version.
Had to chuckle a little bit when you said he wanted somebody to pick up before it went to voicemail. 😊 No such thing as voicemail back in 1976 when this song came out. Not even the big clunky answering machines were a thing yet. Way to expensive for the average household. Back then the phone just rang and rang until somebody picked up, or the caller hung up. Downright primitive, right? 😏
@@RockChick63174I hate his engineering. Never could stand his voice. I don't like his f*cking face..if that hurts your sensitive feelings that someone thinks you have poor taste and isn't afraid to say it then that just is a perfect illustration..I encourage your disapproval...
Thank you Mike. Beautiful song!

YES.. so great, and I'm old enough to remember the phone "ring".. lol
Amen
Well put.
When 70,000 audience members sing to each other, themselves and back at the artists...well shit . Must have done something right , 4O years ago! ❤😂
ELO is a deep, deep hole. Enjoy.

Especially over seas. We had that kitchen phone with cord that was super long. 😂😂
This my wife and my favorite song. We’ve been married almost 40 years now. This song reminds us when we were younger.

Not when he's speaking. He sounds like a Brummie!

Jeff was not the "main" songwriter for ELO, he was the lone songwriter for ELO. (Save a few tracks on the very first album.)

You got the right feel for this song. And it is an amazing performance. Love your reaction too!!
GREAT GREAT song!! SO many memories and tears 🥲. Thanks Mike! And Thanks Dreezy🤩
ELO is legendary
My older brother's friend took me to see them in Oakland, I think, or San Francisco. I was 13. ❤️❤️✌️
I so wish you could have been with us back in the day but you are here now and bring joy through sharing your journey in time and music. ♥
One of my favorites I love this band thank you for reacting to this 👏
Looove ELO!
One of my all-time favorite bands. Great choice.
My favorite ELO song. A masterpiece.
ELO was part of my youth; love Jeff Lynne's voice. Great reaction!
That's off of their New World Record album from 1977, my favorite album of theirs takes me right back to my engineering apprenticeship days.
1976*
Livin´ thing by ELO is also awesome.
Great reaction. At least you let it play straight through. well done. you have a lot of amazing ELO songs to check out...

Mr Blue Sky
Try Chicago Saturday In The Park
Bak in those days there was no voicemail. Unanswered calls went dead, no trace to be found, ever again.
Lots of Beatles influence in that song.
Same concert “evil woman”.
You found ELO..MUST react to Mr. Blue Sky. I have some advice...Don't pause so much....don't let the pauses linger. ....Get back to the music.
Umm, I don't recall him pausing this song even once.
