This song was a HUGE hit in the late 70's. E.L.O was a huge hit . Jeff Lynn , who wrote and sang every hit they ever had was one of the Genius artists of the 70's. His Pure , voice was perfectly suited for the beautiful ballads , and POP rockers that they produced through the years. I remember sitting in the basement in 1977 with my buddies , listening to them singing .. E.L.O. was one of the bands very much like QUEEN, in that when they were playing...they demanded your attention and respect . Whatever else was happening , our cutting up, horsing around , and antics would stop and they had our undivided attention. Even in our young teen years , we understood that we were listening to music of a different caliber. We were hearing REAL musical integrity. You should go listen to one of Jeff Lynn's more recent songs called " When I was A Boy" (The official video version) It does a very fascinating retrospect through the years of ELO, and into the 90's when Jeff Lynn, Roy Orbison , George Harrison , Bob Dylan , and Tom Petty , formed a SUPER Band called the Traveling Wilbury's, who ended up releasing several Mega Hits, prior to Roy Orbison , and George Harrison's death . The Video itself was a groundbreaking video for it's use of Ultra high speed cinematography to create a very cool one shot effect .Hard to explain you need to see it .
I love your tone in your commentary. They are a great band and Jeff Lynne is a master. Sooo many ELO songs - perhaps as one a suggestion would be ‘Tightrope’ but there is a plethora of amazing songs from the great Jeff Lynne .... sweet taking woman, living thing, turn to stone, mr blue sky ... they will all be different - god knows he knows how to keep his music interesting! But ‘Tightrope’ is a must. You are so calm it makes it a pleasure hearing you 👍🥰
ELO are classy!!. Jeff Lynne is a classy genius.. helped the late great Roy Orbison become popular again with Travelling Wilbury's with Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and the late Jeff Beck. Jeff Lynne is often referred to as the fifth Beatle such are his musical gifts. Try Dont Bring Me Down or Mr Blue Sky to name but two. Thanks for a great reaction.
Amazing how they can take a sad song and make it still feel so good. How they can orchestrate all of the musicians, singers, the lighting, what a great production. This was how we used to have to make long distance calls by going using an operator. They usually had a limit on the rings, thus he was asking to let it keep on ringing with hope she would pick up. Always a chance.
There in my top 5. I’ve loved them since the 70’s along with Queen. When Jeff started touring again I was all in. I hope they are going to tour again. I know Queen is going to next yr. This is my favorite song of there’s. Before cell phone ☎️.
I saw ELO at a concert in Randwick Sydney in 1975,when I was 20,It was the classiest and glitziest concert I’d witnessed until a Pink Floyd momentary lapse of reason concert a decade later.Wonderful memories of a truly great group.

I love this song but all these years later I still remember at the time this song came out my "First love" and I were having problems the way young people do. I would call him and the phone would just ring...I remember thinking if he would just pick up that phone I would tell him everything!! 😭💔😫

This song always has had a huge place in my wife and my hearts. I served in the British Military for 38 years, and before the internet and facetime, we used to have one phone call a week if we were lucky. And depending of where I was in the world depended on whether we were able to speak or not, I once got put on report when I used a payphone in Abuja in Nigeria, it was worth it. I took my two daughters to this concert after I was released form hospital after I had received several surgery's over two years after I was hit in Afghanistan in 15. Prior to that my oldest son had assisted my escape from hospital a few times to see ELO, Alice Cooper and a few others until my wife started to see if there were any concerts or musical events that might tempt me, busted. But not until after we had managed ELO in Hyde Park and Glastonbury, we got to meat Jeff Lynne at Glastonbury thanks to an old comrade who was in charge of his personal security. He is one of the nicest and most modest people I have ever met. He sent us the tickets for Wembley when my mate told him I was in a wheelchair now, and was still the same man I'd met before. He truly is a music legend.
They took their name because they combined electric rock instruments with orchestral instruments. "Light Orchestras" were small orchestras popular in England in the '60s.

Great to hear your retracting to E L O. It’s a sad song not a feel good song - I prefer the non live it sends chills up & down. Remember this was pre mobile phones. When people called land lines , no other choices.
Hi , Rad : I liked so much your video - reaction. why don´t you make a reaction about the Electric Light Orchestra ´s song " Midnight blue " ( 1979 ) : ua-cam.com/video/f38qG3Aeb-A/v-deo.html "Midnight blue", a precious and immortal song, recorded at Musicland Studios (Munich, Germany), owned by the Italian musician and producer Giorgio Moroder. You can see the influence of Beethoven, Bach, Wagner and Johann Strauss, in addition to that rich mix of styles, ranging from the doo wop of The Platters and The Chordettes, for example, through the sound and heritage of The Beatles, until the disco style, represented by Barry White, Van McCoy, The Bee Gees, Donna Summer (who also recorded in the same studios, like Queen, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and many other greats) and others.
There is a touch of Viennese waltz as a whole (The theme itself is a waltz, but with a slower rhythm), an iota of bolero, as well as blues, swing and the aforementioned doo wop (The influence of African music it's undeniable - I think.) All a bitterness that makes this beautiful ballad, an ethereal song and without equal. In its part of strings and choral arrangements, Jeff Lynne, its composer and main voice, Richard Tandy, keyboardist of E.L.O. and Louis Clark ( R.I.P. .), who conducted the orchestra. Kelly Groucutt ( R.I.P. ), bassist for E.L.O. , was his second voice and part of the choirs, too. Among many other details, it is worth mentioning that this song used the synthesizer, recently launched on the market at that time, the Yamaha CS-80, the same one with which he created immortal melodies, the Greek musician Vangelis; and sound engineer Reinhold Mack (who was very close, in his work, to Queen), used Sennheiser microphones, placed at different distances, in order to create a magnificent surround sound environment, similar to that of the interior of a cathedral. This is very evident, in two other ballads present in the album "Discovery" (1979), to which this song belongs, "Need her love" (With a strong Gregorian chant glaze) and "Confusion" (With a marked accent in Richard Wagner's choral work.) Lyrically speaking, in one of its parts, there is a reference to a verse from the play "Romeo and Juliet" (William Shakespeare): It says "... But what's the difference cos' they say what's in a name ..." ( "... But, how much do they look at what is in a surname ...") It is intuited that the song refers to the furtive encounter between two lovers, at the stroke of midnight, in a desolate place, which must end before dawn, so as not to be discovered by those close to them. This song was not made as a single, on either side of the Atlantic, but in Australia. Thanks for making and uploading these videos. A hug. Greetings from Chile, South America , amigo.

How could I post a video that I would enjoy getting your reaction to sir?
It’s a sad song not a feel good song - I prefer the non live it sends chills up & down. Remember this was pre mobile phones. When people called land lines , no other choices.
Hi , Rad :
I liked so much your video - reaction.
why don´t you make a reaction about the Electric Light Orchestra ´s song " Midnight blue " ( 1979 ) :

"Midnight blue", a precious and immortal song, recorded at Musicland Studios (Munich, Germany), owned by the Italian musician and producer Giorgio Moroder.
There is a touch of Viennese waltz as a whole (The theme itself is a waltz, but with a slower rhythm), an iota of bolero, as well as blues, swing and the aforementioned doo wop (The influence of African music it's undeniable - I think.)
All a bitterness that makes this beautiful ballad, an ethereal song and without equal.
This is very evident, in two other ballads present in the album "Discovery" (1979), to which this song belongs, "Need her love" (With a strong Gregorian chant glaze) and "Confusion" (With a marked accent in Richard Wagner's choral work.)
Lyrically speaking, in one of its parts, there is a reference to a verse from the play "Romeo and Juliet" (William Shakespeare): It says "... But what's the difference cos' they say what's in a name ..." ( "... But, how much do they look at what is in a surname ...")
It is intuited that the song refers to the furtive encounter between two lovers, at the stroke of midnight, in a desolate place, which must end before dawn, so as not to be discovered by those close to them.
This song was not made as a single, on either side of the Atlantic, but in Australia.
Thanks for making and uploading these videos.
A hug.
Greetings from Chile, South America , amigo.

You pronounce E...L...O as separate letters not as one word like you were saying in the beginning of this video.
