My friend, you have just listened to one of the greatest bands ever. I was born in 1951 and have heard so much great music, sad to see the world so angry. When we made long distance phone in the past, you made them using an operator that would try and connect you and let you know the cost. He is not giving up, praying his GF will pick if it rings long enough. He is pleading to the operator to please let it ring longer. They usually let it ring for no more than 8 times before they told you they were disconnecting.
As time rolls on, it is becoming more and more apparent to many what a lot of us already knew - Jeff Lynne is a brilliant musical genius. Even his one-time 1970s harshest music press critics have made reassessments. There were 60,000 who attended the Wembley concert you just watched. The next year, ELO sold out London’s o2 Arena three nights in a row (another 60,000 people) while on their sold out UK tour. Jeff always has been a studio hound and disliked the touring life. Up to 2014, he had not toured for decades. We have all heard what constant touring has done to some rock n roll voices. As a 73-year-old, his voice has been mostly preserved, so his vocal performances are excellent. Jeff’s main influences were the Beatles, Roy Orbison, Del Shannon and a few others of the same era. The Beatles is certainly the most identifiable. I’d say it’s not purposeful emulation, but Jeff (just 8 years younger than George) grew up in Birmingham (96 miles from Liverpool), and likely shares much of the individual Beatles members’ musical and cultural sensibilities.
Absolute Pro! He’s been around for a very long time. He’s now 76 yrs old. I’ve been a big fan since the late 70’s. Watching his last concert on July10,2025 in Manchester, all the way from Sydney, Australia.
I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this Wembley concert on Blu Ray. There's not a bad track on it and the musicianship and production are just top class. Live music at it's best!
This song always has had a huge place in my wife and my hearts. I served in the British Military for 38 years, and before the internet and facetime, we used to have one phone call a week if we were lucky. And depending of where I was in the world depended on whether we were able to speak or not, I once got put on report when I used a payphone in Abuja in Nigeria, it was worth it the punishment duty. I took my two daughters to this concert after I was released form hospital after I had received several surgery's over two years after I was hit in Afghanistan in 15. Prior to that my oldest son had my accomplice and assisted my escape from hospital a few times to see ELO, Alice Cooper and a few others until my wife caught on. So she started to see if there were any concerts or musical events that might tempt me, busted. But not until after we had managed ELO in Hyde Park and Glastonbury, we got to meat Jeff Lynne at Glastonbury thanks to an old comrade who was in charge of his personal security. He is one of the nicest and most modest people I have ever met. He sent us the tickets for Wembley when my mate told him I was in a wheelchair now, and he was still the humble same man I'd met before. He truly is a music legend.
This song came out when I was in high school I liked it very much. It’s been a very long time since I have heard it. Will never forget the sound of the telephone line while waiting for someone to answer. This brought back lots of memories.
Here is one that I haven’t heard before. I have heard other ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) songs. HAP, you are right about Jeff Lynne’s voice. That’s why he’s been in these superstar collabs. Nice pick Teresa!!
My favorite group since I was 15 yrs old....and at 55 yrs old now....I still feel they stand so far above.....league of their own in talent...Jeff Lynne is the master 🎵❤
worked Wembley complex for a few years in the early 80's and saw this band at the arena (5 nights in a row). Excellent concerts excellent band. Was certainly a great time for music and touring bands/artists. Aaaaaah the memories of an old and fading brain hahaha
ALWAYS WILL STOP AND LISTEN IF I CAN TO ELO! GREAT SONG! HAP AGE IS JUST A NUMBER. AS LONG AS ONE IS HEALTHY AND HAS A YOUNG AT HEART OUTLOOK OF LIFE. THEY WILL BE FINE! GREAT REACTION AND APPRECIATION OF THESE FANTASTIC ARTISTS!!💜💜🎶🎶👍
A superb reaction Hap. Jeff Lynne is a living legend in the true sense of the word. So many wonderful ELO tunes and live performances of them. Here Jeff is 70 years old. Amazing.
I've recently spent some time explaining to my 13 year old how sad it was when you called someone and didn't get an answer, before voicemail. Or worse, somebody you didn't expect (anyone from their dad to their annoying sibling to the new boy or girl friend, as we got older and moved out of our parents homes). that part disturbed them more than the lack of voicemail, they don't know a world where the entire house shared a single number and you had to hope the annoying sibling or unreliable roommate got the message right.
One of my favourite songs from one of my all time favourite bands ❤ 💕 ♥ I saw them in concert at the Manchester Arena a couple of years ago, can't wait to see them again 😍 🙌
Fantastic reaction Hap! My favorite song by ELO!! Reminds me of my first year in college!! I had the vinyl and listened to this album over & over again! If you’re performing at Wembley than you’re one of the best. “Oh Oh Telephone line give me some time” OMG!
That subtle echo you hear is the natural echo of Wembley Stadium. ELO is massive in England. Watch his show at Glastonbury from a few years ago-the crowd loved them.
Love ELO, and especially this song. I was a socially awkward child, and my mom forced me to go to a slumber party. The "host"'s brother had this forty five(record) and I listened to it all night while the other girls slept. ELO was among my top ten favorite groups(along with Queen) when I was growing up. Great choice to react to! Album version is even better. My first time hearing this version, also.
One of the greatest live and public performances ever, in my mind. And it is reported that Paul McCartney considered ELO as the Beatles musical descendants, because of the similarity of Jeff's voice to his and the creativity of his band.
Jeffs a legend amongsts the music scene john lennon was there biggest fan the mans an icon around the globe once you go down the ELO rabbit hole you get lost
If you would like to check out some other great performances, listen to : HEART doing Stairway to Heaven in front of its band, Bee Gees doing Got to Get a Message to You live on British T.V. and The Hollies doing Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress; masterpieces all.
You mentioned similar to The Beatles that's not an accident John Lennon said that Jeff was one of the greatest musicians he ever knew and he was George Harrison's best friend so and he was in another band with George Harrison and Tom Petty and Roy Orbison and thanks I think someone rolls out else was in it too but I'm not positive the traveling wilburys but he does he wrote a lot of music with George Harrison this is my favorite yellow song
They picked up The Beatles sound in the ‘70’s-‘80’s. Jeff was in the Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison. Your terrible loss. You missed all the good music.

Jeff's "Hello" was 6 years before Lionel's. Jeff's voice is so pure and clear!
The Lionel Richie song doesn't actually start with Hello
This is a song from 1977 being performed 40 years later in 2017, by a 67 year old Jeff lynne. Awesome performance.
Came out the year I graduated high school. My second favorite band. Number one is Queen.
@@mariabryant6582 me to. That’s why I think everyone is enjoying the trip
And he was almost 70 in 2017! Born December 1947 ... amazing
Jeff is truly timeless!!!
@@leoiori9675 Same age as Brian May.
Jeff is just a treasure. god bless him. lol. great songs from my youth.
That couple in the crowd starting to dance in the beginning gets me every time.

Jeff Lynne still touring ...has 3 shows for 2023. Amazing!
This song meant a lot to a lot of people. Me, too. You see that.
This song will take you away to another place really quick . Love it

He truly is a music legend.
The genius of Jeff Lynne who wrote and arranged all their songs.
ELO were huge, absolutely huge, 40 years ago!!! He can still produce the same sound, his orchestra are amazing, puts modern music to shame.
This song came out when I was in high school I liked it very much. It’s been a very long time since I have heard it. Will never forget the sound of the telephone line while waiting for someone to answer. This brought back lots of memories.
Same
The last #1 hit by the Beatles in the USA was produced by Jeff Lynn! It is called Free As A Bird from 1997.
Here is one that I haven’t heard before. I have heard other ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) songs. HAP, you are right about Jeff Lynne’s voice. That’s why he’s been in these superstar collabs. Nice pick Teresa!!
Jeff said he didn't think anyone wanted his music anymore... please give us more.

I feel sorry for this guy who hasn’t heard of ELO before, this is real music 🎶

His singing is amazing, so natural and effortless
John Lennon once said, I paraphrase, If the Beatles ever had a child, it would be ELO.
😆
John actually spoke about ‘son of the Beatles ‘

Thank u for enjoying. :)
Jeff Lynne is a genius and this sounds just as good as the studio version although it it 40 years after it was released.
When you know a group you hear it, it’s Queen, ELO very distinctive sound. I believe you can hold your own on your reactions. 👍

Great reaction! My first time hearing this song. What a beautiful love song ❤️

Thanks Hap! Your spot on, when he sings he stays in the same range. Brings back so many memories dating my husband. Jeff said hello first. 🤣👍
That’s romantic! Appreciate ur request for this beautiful song.

Jeff Lynns vintage voice is so hypnotizing because he carries some velvet in his throat! LOL
Great reaction. Thx.
Greatest do it all musician to ever live in my opinion.
Heyup Haps, another British treasure, very mellow.
Love it when new generations discover Jeff Lynne/ELO! Well done Hap! 💕
Good tune! Awesome reaction HAP! ❤️❤️❤️
Such a great song, great review.
One of my favorite bands since I was a child in the 70's🙂
I love this song, makes me feel nostalgic for a time period I never even got to experience 😂
This whole concert is amazing. Try Turn To Stone with it's astonishing double time verse.
Jeff Lynne is the most underrated musical genius, and that is truth...
One of the great live performances ever!
I used to take this record everywhere with me, Loved it.
Yes. Electric Light Orcestra was really good!
Still is! 😀 I saw Jeff/ELO in July '19. Spectacular!
Great reaction. Try ELO Its a living thing.
He’s already done it.
yeah, Jeff has a beautiful resonance to his voice.
There were 60.000 at the Wembley concert in June 2017

Jeff Lynne is a musicians' musician. Many, many stars have been influenced by him. Bloody genius!

ELO is the best band ever musically period!
Great band ❤️🎶❤️🎶
ELO the best live band in the world!
Nice reaction!
Just incredible!
Excellent review!
Remember, in this song the Telephone ☎️ is NOT cellphone, lol
Yep!!

He was influenced by the Beatles and his stuff from the 70s sounds like a continuation of their music.
please listen to ELO ticket to the Moon !
Do yourself and everyone else a massive favour and do “rockaria” …..👍👍
Bit too close to the studio version for me. Too perfect. I love ELO by the way.
Just take a peek at the audience. The only ones under 50 are kids the parents dragged in with them. Full disclosure, I'm 64...
Now you’d just go to voice mail. No emotional song about that.
They picked up The Beatles sound in the ‘70’s-‘80’s. Jeff was in the Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison. Your terrible loss. You missed all the good music.
Studio version is much better.
This is very close to the studio version, not bad for 40 years on .
Jeff is a gift from God
These guys were round before your mum was born
