Preem it's time to drop the Moment of Truth Instrumental LP. Everyone and their moms have been asking for this since the album came out. Do it for the fans!
I've dug deep on Premo's polished catalog, and even though it's not as well known to the masses-- Mic Stance - Afu Ra That one needs to be brought into the light more 🙏
Preemo beats raised me, I knew and loved hip hop before I could speak english fluently... Growing up in Soweto, South Africa in the 90's every song Primo produced I made sure I got, by tape, CD or even reading from magazines that's how closely I followed his art
Apart from his PBN beats, Primo By Numbers*. His sound is instantly recognisable but often formulaic, but damn it works. *coined by a journo in HHC iirc
I love how sporadic the bass drum is in this loop. The other instruments keep the swing going throughout but then when that kick drum hits it's all the sweeter. Another gem from Premier
All my LOVE AND RESPECT to GANGSTARR... Im a punk rocking hip hopper, and GANGSTARR was my very first introduction to HIP HOP MUSIC. SALUTE! #REALHIPHOP #DJPREMIER
Premo and Guru definitely went to work (no pun intended lol) on their soundtrack opportunities. Because every record came to live. And the incorporation of live music took it to another level. Amazing. Thank you for sharing your stories Premier.
1998 was my favorite Hip-hop year in the 90s. Masterpieces and classic albums Dominated that year! And of course, The Moment of Truth 🔥🔥🔥🔥 RIP the Great GURU!
@Frank Lopez incorrect! 94/95 were great years in Hip-hop for sure. Not the best in history! No. The 2000s were also great years in Hip-hop. It hasn't been until the last 12 to 10 years when Trap, Drill, and southern rap has been pushed to the forefront, were the Hip-hop lost it's culturally value.
@Frank Lopez Again incorrect! From 1988-1999 was the golden era of Hip-hop culture. That was the strongest period in the culture. The 2000s were great as well. Hip-hop gained more commercial success and recognition, but Nas, Jay-Z, 50 cent, Dip set, State property, Eminem, Luda, T.I, Lil Wayne ect all peeked after 2000.
@Frank Lopez Just because they're "trash" to you! Does not mean they're "Trash" to someone else🙄 that's your opinion fella, not a fact! Just like 94/95 is your opinion and not a fact! Jay-Z, Dr Dre and Snoop Dog are very popular and commercially successful 👍🏾 does that make them trash? And I never said Eminem or cam,ron were the "best of the best" 🤔 But, to their fans they're the "best of the best" who are you to say otherwise?
@Frank Lopez Your babbling and Rambling now Mr Lopez 🙄 You're just spewing nonsense at this point! Hip-hop has always had commercial success, even from hardcore Hip-hop acts and rappers. You have no idea how deep my Hip-hop roots are! I've met Gangstarr GURU and been on stage with them Lil man! You have no clue who you're speaking with!
There's a bank here in Australia, Bank of Melbourne, that uses this beat for their ad they've been running for the last couple years or so. I hope yooz got paid good offa that one!
I actually ended up rewatching this video just now because Premier just posted a video on IG of him recreating a sample free version of Work even the voiceovers
I had just bought my'94 Mazda 626 when this tape came out..This Shit would CRANK in da Rockford Fosgate Amp&Speakers I had in the 626🔥🔥🔥 Who else had da Detachable Face radio unit..🙋🏾
nothing like those classic Gang Starr joints, most consistent ground in HIP-HOP (in my opinion)... beautiful memories of the hanging in them streets back in the 90s...CLASSIC MATERIAL 😎😎😎
One of my all time favorites. Partly because one of my friends used it for his skate part in the early 2000s. He gave preemo and guru their credits and ofcourse and didn't pay for the song but no money was made. It was just a local video. I still skate to this now and again and it never gets old. It's actually better now that I'm older. Thanks alot for this breakdown.
Preemo you are a master of your craft…and you motivate me to want to be a master of mines which is not even music. Very inspirational to see the work you put in. BTW , I bought Moment of Truth the first day it dropped. That was the first Gangstarr album I purchased, and when I first listened to it, I said it was a classic, and I’m still listening to it close to 25 years later.
Another Classic from a Classic album Moment Of Truth. I never knew Work was crafted for Caught Up I don’t recall hearing the soundtrack. Salute Legendary DJ Premier and Legendary GURU R.I.P. Gang Starr 4 Eva 🔥🔥🔥🔥
2006 I was in high school playing Moment of Truth on the bus because the album was the truth of life this is when hip-hop was all about dancing shake that laffy taffy shout the Gangstar
That´s an incredible song right here! I hope we get to see more song of Moment of Truth, cause it´s an amaizing and deep album. I have the idea that every song have a good story behind, for the context of Guru´s life in that time. All the lyrics full of emotion and the rapping proves it. Greetings from Chile Preem and thanks for this series!

This song still gets me hyped in 2022. It’s impossible not to when you hear it.

Annnnnd...Group Home. I would buy the vinyl even if I didn't have a record player.
You think they care about fans. Truly ponder tht. They're human just like us except they made music we grew up on.

@@leod8489 Have you ever had fans? Who is he making these videos for? Fans of DJ Premier. Fans of his product.
Premier has the best ear for dissonant sounds. That siren/horn in the background is just genius.
Netflix or someone should be doing a documentary giving preemo free rein to do what he wants. I could watch and listen to this legend for days!
"Ya b*tch aint really got no ass, she just poked it out!" One of my favorite lines from Bald Head Slick. #RIPGURU #SaluteDJPREMIER' #GANGSTARR
DJ Premier is the greatest producer of all time.
Absolutely... No Doubt about it.
Moment of truth is classic
Best song from him in my opinion, I listen to it during rough times. The realist rapper out there. ♥️🌹
Masterpiece!!
I've dug deep on Premo's polished catalog, and even though it's not as well known to the masses--
Mic Stance - Afu Ra
That one needs to be brought into the light more 🙏
Top five premo beat
Facts. Beat still hella sick!! 👍🏾👍🏾
Afu-Ra definitely worked with some weapons-grade Premo beats, like on Blvd. and Defeat.
Preemo beats raised me, I knew and loved hip hop before I could speak english fluently... Growing up in Soweto, South Africa in the 90's every song Primo produced I made sure I got, by tape, CD or even reading from magazines that's how closely I followed his art
Bananas beat. Amazing how Primo’s style is so distinctive yet the beats are soooo different from one another. Truly a GOD.
I get what you mean
His ear for sounds is definitely on point
Apart from his PBN beats, Primo By Numbers*. His sound is instantly recognisable but often formulaic, but damn it works.
