Shout out to my man Drake Goodrich (rest in peace) who brought the DWYCK cassingle to science class in ‘92 and played it the entire class period. I was blown away, but also confused because I had Daily Operation. “WHAT IS THIS???” was my reaction. Two years later when they put it on “Hard To Earn” the song STILL felt new. That’s how long records lasted back then. True definition of a classic.

I’m a UK rapper and producer that goes way back and I remember losing my mind when I first heard this track. So fresh and funky no matter when you hear it. The drum break is one of those classics that everyone was using at the time, but this is one of the best renditions. It got in my head so much, that when making beats, I have to try hard not to bite it. I had DWYCK and Faking the Funk on repeat back in the day!

One of the greatest hip hop songs ever got its name from a joke. Who would have knew? Always thought it was named after the sound of the stratch on a record. That era was so creative. I was very young when I asked Primo in the studio what “DWYCK” meant and he told me specifically that it stood for, “Don’t You Wish You Could Know!” I was just a stupid, young intern at that time and everyone laughed when he said it. This is such a timeless BANGER! Man, I love it. It's such a fun record. And I LOVE the In Living Color performance. I remember my boys and me did that crazy dance about 20yrs ago in the club because we loved that performance / dance :-D I'd love to know where DWYCK suppossed to be on the Daily Operation record. Let us know, Premier! BIG UP to the best who ever did it. Love Gang Starr 2 death!

NUFF RESPECT! This song is so instrumental to Hip Hop and the culture. Most people don't know the history of it. I remember first seeing this song performed (now knowing it was live) on in Living Colour.
Also shout out to the NBA producers for playing DWYCK on their "NBA Today" broadcast. Let's keep the culture alive. Innovate and expand upon it for another 50 years!

My son is 12 & he’s amazed how G.U.R.U taps his pockets when Greg nice says “rock for a fee, not for free” & of course when the god says “lemonade was a popular drink & it still is” & he takes a sip from the cup 🙌🏾🔥 RIPGURU 🙏🏾🕊️🗣️🔥🎙️🔊
