  • Hype or Hunt? Today we're testing the Parker Productions Hydracon projectile in ballistic gel at 100 yards.
We’ll be shooting the Parker Hydracon out of my CVA Accura LR V2. This muzzleloader may not be the latest and greatest, but it’s been a workhorse for me. For propellant in this test, I’m going to be testing 80 grains of Blackhorn 209 measured by weight.
Before we get into the test, I want to mention that you shouldn’t use my tests as a substitute for your own testing and practice. Just because something works for me doesn’t mean it will for you. It’s our responsibility as hunters and outdoorsmen to be proficient with our equipment and take ethical shots.

That's why blackhorn 209 should be boycotted. Therefore , the wish they never put a ridiculous price on their product.

Quick question, I have been wanting a charleville for my impression but haven’t found documentation of civilians owning military muskets in the mid 18th century (1750-1760)? Could see it happening just haven’t found any written documentation of this happening any input is appreciated.

While plausible, I agree. It would be better to shift your focus to post AWI or focusing on a Fusil de Chase or another style of “trade gun” for the impression.

@@ILoveMuzzleloading do you know of any smoothbores with a similar style to the charleville? The main thing I love about it is the lock

Any of the French “fusils” from the same era would be close and feature similar locks. Stock style is tricky to match because it remains a key differentiator between military and civilian arms

I think it would be much more informative to do a low velocity shot and then a high velocity shot. I don’t think there’s much value in seeing just about everything give more than adequate wound tracks because they’re impacting at high speed. Performance at 1200-1300 fps is a LOT more important to know because it lets you know the real limits of performance. High velocity performance does not equate to low velocity performance. You should be able to get both shots in the same gel. Look up simple minded fella if you want some reference videos to model after and to see the point I’m making on bullet performance really only being tested on the low end.

Stick with true BP. “Black Powder Matters”.
    BH 209 has gotten ridiculous…
