Bought my 23' WRX Limited 6MT for $4,800 under sticker price, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. It's perfect for both commuting and weekend fun!
Bought a brand new 2023 Limited WRX six speed for 6K under msrp. I negotiated everything over the phone. It’s my seventh brand new WRX!!! I’ve had every color except the orange or white. I was about to get a 24 premium but the 23 Limited cost 33k after the 6k off msrp!!!! No other dealer could price match or beat that price so I took her home
If you want a nice daily driver and are looking at the wrx; in my opinion, spend the extra money and get the limited. For a daily that you use for a commute, you'll really appreciate the significantly better speakers, and the more comfortable ultrasuede seats with lumbar support for the driver - I recently had a couple of 6hr trips, and I had no comfort problems at all. Plus, on the limited you get a bunch of "soft touch" leather in the front dash that looks and feels better than the premium and base trims. Also, make sure to look at dealer pricing, limited trims (and GT trims) are usually discounted higher than base or premium trims. If you're just comparing the MSRP, the premium looks like the best bang for the buck, but actual pricing at dealers for base and premium trims were kinda crap. In my area, after dealer discounts, a limited was only ~3k more than premium trims. base was around 30k, premium was 32k, and limiteds were around 35k.
Soft touch interior stuff is pretty nice, and good point about possibly getting bigger discount on more expensive models... On the upgraded interior bits, I noticed someone else had a video out about a optional OEM ultrasuede inserts for the door panels, dash and console - looks NICE. Thinking about doing that one myself.
Another VB Limited driver agreeing. Im loving the hell out of it as a daily driver. The sound system is definitely a step-up for someone who likes havig the music on while i drive to keep me focused. The heated seats and the remote start is awesome for when i leave for work at 11p.m. in winter. I did get mine factory customized with a few style updates which pushed the price to $40k+ at the end of the day, but absolutely no regrets.
Well the 2023 limited models are $37,000+ before options, closing in on 40 grand for a wrx is pushing it. Would be nice to have a sunroof delete option as well because if you're over 6 feet tall you'll likely have your head brushing the roof with the sunroof option.
I went with the Base. Didn't want a sunroof, and I think the trunk on the Base model looks the best. 😎 17k miles on my '22 and no regrets choosing the Base model. I did add the factory fog lights after picking mine up, and about to add the LED fog trims.
is there any way to go straight to the LED Fog trims without having to buy the OEM bezel? I have a 23 base and really want to add the bezel with the LED but don't want to buy the OEM Bezel just for the foglights.
The OEM kit comes with the fog lights, the bezels, a fuse for under the hood, and the on/off switch. I don't know if you would save much money buying the parts individually minus the bezels v/s the kit. There are some Subaru dealerships that sell parts online for under list price. I paid like $285 for the OEM kit. It is plug and play. @@VB_Bryan
i went with the base too, i didnt need all the extra stuff plus i like the dual screens instead of one giant one. i am 100 percent satisfied with my choice
I think the Premium without the Harmon Kardon/sunroof is the best bang for your buck. You get the lip spoiler, heated seats, 18” wheels with the 245 width tires, fog lights, etc. just my two-cents.
I went with the Base, then used Crutchfield to add 4 Infinity Reference Standard speakers, which dramatically improved the sound quality over the stock system.

The difference in trims is so interesting. Here in Australia we essentially have 3 different trims. WRX, WRX RS, and WRX TS. The base for us would just be the WRX, and the GT would be the TS. RS I assume would be the limited as far as I'm aware all of them have blind spot monitoring and should have eyesight for the my24s. That includes the manuals
We get rear seat heaters for the RS, and I think the TS as well. What I don't get is why we don't get the memory seats and only the TS gets that. The top spec manual should at least get that.
I purposely bought the base model. I didn’t like the big screen on the limited which is gloss black and will scratch easily, preferred the dual screen which is easy to keep clean, and simply looks better than the ugly big tablet. Didn’t want a push button start, heated seats, etc, it’s just more electrical nonsense that can go wrong in the future. Didn’t want a sunroof as I wanted the solid structural integrity of a full roof. I already have a 700whp Camaro 6MT, and still have my bone stock 2007 WRX STI (not many are stock) with 59k miles. If there was any performance enhancements I would have gotten a premium, limited etc, but truth is that stock, the base is the fastest with no sunroof, lighter weight without the gizmos and most structural sound. The base is the best value and performance for the $, was an easy dicision. My 2023 came with the STI short shifter and that’s it, got it for $34k in California after taxes, registration etc with an 8 yr 80k mile warranty. I already have a fast car and a Hawkeye STI so I was happy with the purchase 👍🏻
I would recommend the base is you are going to build your car. The extra stuff you are paying for in the other trims aren’t worth the money. The new TR actually is a perfect car to build off of as long as the price isn’t ridiculous
I bought a base 2 months ago. LOVE IT!!! It’s a work car, so I don’t need all the fancy options (I have a 2021 GLC300 with all the fancy options). I don’t like black wheels so I have no choice but the base. The split screen is fine for me and it’s easy to use. I installed 4 JL Audio speakers and it sounds quite good now. Wrapped the car and now has body color flares. The only thing I wish it has is the keyless entry and push start button. At $30k, 6 speed, 270hp, AWD, it is the best value and best car period!!!
I would go Premium but I want lumbar support and steering-responsive headlights too much. I am hopeful that all 2024 trims will have SRH though since all trims of the new Impreza and Crosstrek have them now.
Australian model for a base has: - Rear passenger air vents - Front fog lights - Larger infotainment screen - Keyless start button - Keyless entry - 18” Gunmetal Alloys - Daytime Running Headlights/Led That is because we only have 3 trim levels in Aus.
I have a 22 Base MT. I got it for about 27k during the crazy dealership stockpiles that were happening around the country earlier this spring. The split infotainment is unimpressive but you get used to it, I wanted fog lights so I added the OEM fog light kit myself for $375, and the ONLY thing I wish it had is remote start so I could warm it up without leaving the house (especially in the winter). A lot of the features you can get on other trims are nice, but they get pricy pretty fast. For the driving experience alone, I don't think you can beat the value of the base model (especially if you want to save some extra $ to do some mods). I think the only other consideration that would have made a difference for me would be if the eyesight/safety features had been available for MT at the time, and were only available on higher trims. In that case I probably would have opted for whichever trim got me into that whole system, because this latest round of eyesight/safety features are pretty awesome IMO.
I've got the exact same setup in the WR blue. You can dramatically improve the sound quality of your stock system by going to Crutchfield and getting more efficient and higher quality speakers that fit in your car's stock enclosures. It'll cost you several hundred dollars and an afternoon - that's it.
Really looking forward to your thoughts on the SPT/ CVT model. Currently have a Limited w/ SPT on order that I cant wait for to be in. Keep up the amazing work!
I went with the limited in solar orange. All the features you stated are nice, that lumbar support is 👌. The mirrors on the limited are also auto dimming and have turn signal on the them. The blind spot indicator is nice too it also flashes and beeps when backing up and something or someone is behind you. I didn’t want a moonroof but wanted all the other options. The sound system is very nice, could be better if it had a more detailed eq to get it were you want it. Great video as always 🤘
So I have another question, I have a 23 limited 🎉very happy ( fun toy driver not a daily yet ) I have seen your review on the 2024 TR , how hard and when do u think it will be before we can get the Brembo upgrade with tires ? ( however I have seen people use older sti parts in mean time )
@@geraldboylan5635 Yeah, mine's the same. Seems like they could have included that, but it's technically a different type of sensor (close vs. wide-angle)
@stlroofer314 you're also missing the much nicer seats and much nicer headlights, integrated turn signals in the mirrors, better quality interior trim bits. If you are not on an tight budget, the limited is easily worth it. But there is nothing wrong with a base or premium either. It's just false to say the limited doesn't offer much more.
Another thing the Premium is missing vs the Limited is Rear Cross-traffic monitoring, which I honestly thought I wouldn't care about, but it is very nice! If a car is flying up the road behind you as you're backing out, especially w/ obstacles close to the road, I've noticed it can 'see' way better than you can from where I'm guessing the sensor is on the back bumper. Works for kids on go-carts also, that might otherwise be difficult to see. Underrated safety feature.
The benefit of the GPS in the limited is that you will always see the local speed limit on the digital Speedo. To me that's priceless. I use Android Auto, so yes, traditional GPS I don't care about.
Hmm, I've noticed that a lot of times the local speed limit doesn't show on my limited. Maybe it's just me, but I've also noticed that it seems to show up often right after passing a speed limit sign, so I thought the camera might be reading the sign. Getting from GPS makes sense, but odd that it's not there a lot of the time.
When I clicked this video I was a bit apprehensive cause I bought the premium and felt like I was gonna hear something that made me regret not getting the limited or the GT. After watching this video, I am glad I got the premium. All the extra stuff on the limited and the GT i really didn't care at all about. Didn't care about the seats or seat material. Didn't care about the moonroof. The better sound would have been nice, but not necessary. Mine did come with the performance transmission, the eyesight, drive mode select and RAB. So, thank you for the video and helping me feel much better about my purchase!!
I picked the base for 29,500. I personally liked the two screens over the one, it can’t update so my firestick will always work on it, I know unpopular opinion. I was planning on wheels from day one and I didn’t want any of the beeping bs for safety. My only regrets are lack of heated seats, the side mirror defroster and no fog lights.
Oh and I wanted a key over the push start because I don’t like all the tech that will probably break and I want to be able to pop start if it’s dead and I’m stranded. I also don’t like how the ac controls are on a touch screen and the main reason I got the ten year warranty
I went back and forth between Premium and Limited. I ended up with the Premium. I didnt care about the power seats, I actually find power seats in my wife's car annoying. I didn't care about the upgraded stereo but my wife thinks thr stock stereo doesn't sound great, so maybe that is needed if you are an audiophile. I dont need moonroof, keep that weight down. The two features I wanted are the blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. The other factor is that wanted the sapphire blue. Took a lot of calling around to find a car in that color. Most dealers didnt want to bother investigating a transfer. And when i asked about chance of finding a sapphire blue limited the guy said "fat chance". So I would have had to factory order it.
I'm collecting my new WRX on Sunday morning (it was about three months from order). I'm in Japan so the trims are different. I went for the top spec, sans the moon-roof, but (can you believe) it comes without a premium sound-system. I've had them fit the Pioneer speaker upgrade, even though it's not an official upgrade (it is for the two lower-spec trims). Go figure. WRX S4 Sti EX. I optioned all the red-striped aero stuff and chassis stiffeners etc.
Fair analysis. I’d say get the premium for the screen, wheels, and seat heat. Stock audio in all of the models is garbage. Definitely get the Harmon Kardon system if you can swing it. Or, alternatively it is pretty easy to upgrade the speakers in the doors and the dash. Makes a huge difference.
I forgot the limited trim existed when I bought mine lool, was a lil salty but it is what it is, after taxes and everything it would have been more than I would have wanted to spend on a WRX
I’m from Canada so I’m guessing that’s why our trim names are base, sport, sport-tech. I managed to get a sport in the dark grey which is absolutely awesome. It’s got the sun roof, lumbar support power seat and the blind spot sensors. I just don’t have the nice speakers haha 😂.
I got a used limited (Sport-tech in canada). I love the sound system and think it's so worth it. I love the seats as well, they're much easier to clean then I thought. LED lights are cool and a neat feature for sure but I still think the sound system is my favorite of the limited features
It's true but the STi in 2019 was already 25 years old. There is a cost in r&d that we pay when buying new stuff. I believe that's how we ended up with some of these prices.
I got a premium with the hk and moonroof and have been happy with it. My friend has the limited and it is really nice. If I could have found a good deal on a limited I think it's worth it.
I got the limited only because of the seats. I could do without the rest of the add ons. Its criminal that they didn't offer power seats with lumbar support with the Premium
i got a 2022 ignition red limited with all of the special add on features for a crazy price everything was clean only 3800 miles and asking price was 31,900 got crazy lucky
I hope you continue to grow! I just stumbled on to your page because I'm looking at purchasing my first wrx and modding it out. Love your content, keep it coming!
Imo the only reason to look at higher trims is if they offer something you can't upgrade (easily) when time passes. Like how it's almost impossible for me to get android auto in out VW Polo AW now.. Or how a black rooflining would cost 900€ just for the parts.
Given that all the trim levels have the same engine, the best performance will come from the Base, because it's the lightest car of the bunch. Many will choose to upgrade the 17" wheels to 18" or 19" and upgrade the Dunlop tires to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, which are far better than the stock Dunlop tires. Add an Accessport and a pro tune and you're all set. You really don't need anything else (currently ~340HP at 20 PSI boost).
I got the Premium in black silica (matches my wife's Ascent). I really like the large display and wanted the heated seats for the cold winters here. I would have opted down for 17"s because of all the potholes and rough roads in NW PA. Also needed the fogs- lost last car to deer. Also opted for the HK/Moonroof package. In summer it is nice to let all the heat out of the car with the sunroof, and it is a great vent the rest of the year. You cannot buy car stereos anymore (lost art!) so I wanted better audio and the sub. I also negotiated the STi shifter as part of the deal (installed) when I got in a stalemate with the sales manager. Good idea for anyone. You should get $2k right off the top of any trim. If you don't walk or bring up the website of a bigger dealer where they are advertising $2k off. I had really nice nav in my last 4 cars, but with the Noble bluetooth box, I have a beautiful Google Map on the huge portrait display that rivals any of those. I think $2k nav systems in cars are a useless expense. YMMV. Cheers!
I'm never buying RED ever again. I had an 04 SRT4 and I was pulled over alot. I had cops call another county department because they couldn't catch me. Of course I had no idea lol
One thing you may have missed is the slight difference in turning radius. Base at 36.8 feet and the three others at 36.74 feet. My understanding is this is due to the premium, limited and GT all having the inverted front struts.
That may have been the case with the previous gen, but Base VB uses part numbers 20310VC220 and 20310VC230 for front struts, same as Premium and Limited. Subaru def lists a slight radius difference though.
Yeah, that's a nice feature. Rear seat heater is the one I really don't understand dropping for the US. The blanks are even there for the switches on my Limited! I've also got an '05 Legacy GT Limited and Japan had a rear-wiper option that we didn't get. I think about that all the time, haha - would be really useful!
I'm team limited. For a daily, the better seats, soft touch materials, HK sound system, safety features, AND a around 35k is a no brainer for my lifestyle.
I agree. I wanted all the upgrades. I’m an adult and I work hard. Even if I don’t use the sunroof. Knowing it’s there. Is worth the money for me. It’s weird but I’m not afraid to admit it 😂
Bought my 23 limited WRX with 8k miles on it, previous owner dumped 5k in aftermarket parts, wheels and tires, and I walked out the dealership at $33,500.00 and couldn’t be happier, sale price of the vehicle itself was 30,999.00
@@HeavyMetalWRX money on a FMIC, intake, Enkie wheels, continental tires, and fender flares, it was insane how low they marked it down. And just with all the features like the sunroof, seats, and other goodies it was too good to pass up!
Hey there! Tbh if you can get a Limited for under MSRP that's the best option. If you can't and delseds won't budge for price then get a premium. The TR is amazing if you have the budget for it though. As for color WRB is just absolutely classic and you can't go wrong. Besides that it's pretty subjective. I love all the colors for specific reasons. For me WRB and Ignition Red stand above the others haha.
There only wrx around my area at the time was a black premium with sunroof and hk. So I snagged it up. I’m happy with it for sure but if I had a do over I’d gotten the limited. No looking back tho I’m content.
Have a 2023 WRX Premium. What I found amazing, is that Subaru released this car with the enormous screen, but then only gave full screen access for Apple, and not Android. You literally pay to get the experience of the base model if you have a Android device. Hoping they resolve this soon, as it's a very poor experience. Shame the Premium didn't get the blind spot detection, as that's my only gripe about it to be honest. (The sloppy shifter can be resolved.)
I am most disappointed with blind spot not being on the premium. Tbh it should be on all models. My base 19k Jetta had it. However starting next year all the WRX are supposed to come with eyesight I think. So that's a plus I guess.
I was going to get a base but my dealer had a premium package 11 (I think that is one up from the base) on the lot with the all weather mats and 6 miles they worked with me on and I pulled the trigger. ETA... why am I double posting?....
At a minimum limited trim. Subabru wrx is very primitive, almost Neanderthal compared to to other trim vehicles I’ve owned. I own a 2023 limited and it’s about as comparable as a base vehicle from Toyota.
@@HeavyMetalWRX Yeah, I tried both and the seats are noticeably better/nicer in the Limited. Also, one thing you didn't mention when talking about the blind-spot detection in the Limited, is it also comes w/ rear cross-traffic alert. Sounds kinda like something you wouldn't need, but it works *really* well, even for low things like kids and dogs that happen to cross behind you when you least expect it - great safety feature if you've got (or plan on having) kids!
That's actually still not good value. Most people that shop for a WRX are looking at the 30-35k price range. The average owner is mid 3ps with either 1 kid or 1 pet. 32k for a WRX that's great all year round with adaptability is really good. Then after warranty(If you care about it) you can spend about $1200 and get a nice bump I power. If your budget is 48k you might not even be looking at a WRX.
@HeavyMetalWRX I beg to differ, F80 M3 is a great value for around the same price as a new GT Trim 2024 WRX + taxes. In fact, I traded in my 2015 STI, which i got brand new from subaru, for a 2018 F80 M3 CPO 1 owner, 11k miles + 4 year CPO BMW extended warranty for 52k from BMW, I negotiated it down from 55k. Even their service and sales dept is eons ahead of subaru. The sales manager even threw in a full body 3M PPF install after we had been chatting via text for a few weeks after i got the M3, as he checked in on me to see how i was enjoying the car, and he still texts me to this day! Definitely something subaru would never do nor care to do, especially being with subaru since 2015, they just don't care about the consumer or the experience. They gave me 28k equity on my STI trade in, i put down 5, financed 21k (taxes). Solid car, don't miss the subie one bit, I highly encourage anyone to look into an M3, especially having owned a STI for so long. Night and day difference.

Really looking forward to your thoughts on the SPT/ CVT model. Currently have a Limited w/ SPT on order that I cant wait for to be in. Keep up the amazing work!
I have a 22 GT with under 8k miles and love mine.
Crazy thought … my limited beeps for cross detection,, but not if I’m backing up and getting too close to anything?
So I have another question, I have a 23 limited 🎉very happy ( fun toy driver not a daily yet ) I have seen your review on the 2024 TR , how hard and when do u think it will be before we can get the Brembo upgrade with tires ? ( however I have seen people use older sti parts in mean time )
@@geraldboylan5635 Yeah, mine's the same. Seems like they could have included that, but it's technically a different type of sensor (close vs. wide-angle)
Nice color choice, btw!
Tbh if they were giving away cars for under MSRP I would have gotten a limited. I was just a few months short of that. 😭😭
I went with the '22 MGM Premium with HK & Sunroof - Only thing I'm missing is the Blind Spot Monitoring, it should also be on this trim in my opinion.
BASE IS GOAT!!!!!!!!!
(Base trunk w/o the lip spoiler is 🔥🔥🔥)
When I clicked this video I was a bit apprehensive cause I bought the premium and felt like I was gonna hear something that made me regret not getting the limited or the GT.
Probably going to go with the 6MT Premium w/ moonroof package. In Ceramic White.
Base = Fast
if you want good back support get the lumbar support premium and up only never in a base...
Got a limited a couple moths ago love HK stereo especially interior with the lumbar support was great for a 4hr road trip. Got $3100 off msrp in socal
Got the premium no upgrades, Love the button start and wheels
I want the GT order with the CD player and put some aftermarket brakes on it.😅
Go for limited
Wrx has a huge blind spot issue , without blind spot detection its not that easy to zip around
Ah yea the names are a bit different for some reason. Glad you're enjoying it! Not glad about the speakers. They are sooo bad 😭😭😭
I got a used limited (Sport-tech in canada). I love the sound system and think it's so worth it. I love the seats as well, they're much easier to clean then I thought. LED lights are cool and a neat feature for sure but I still think the sound system is my favorite of the limited features
I still think the GT trim for that price you should get brembos. At that price you could get an STI in 2019
It's true but the STi in 2019 was already 25 years old. There is a cost in r&d that we pay when buying new stuff. I believe that's how we ended up with some of these prices.
I got a premium with the hk and moonroof and have been happy with it. My friend has the limited and it is really nice. If I could have found a good deal on a limited I think it's worth it.
Just bought a red 2023 manual WRX (base trim).
Came from a 2016 BMW M5.
Loving the car so far. First manual car I’ve owned… still learning :)
My BASEd model has both vanity mirrors but, neither have lights. (for weight savings😅)
Bought a 2023 Premium. Thanks for the great video!
Awesome!!! I hope you're enjoying it. If/when you go down the modding route lmk if you have any questions 🤘
There are quite a few limited trims in my area for as low as 31k. They are "used," but they have less than 10k miles on them.
YMMV.
Cheers!
Dude I need to get my hands on a wireless kit for my car. Thats been on my to-do list.
The Noble is seamless, reconnects even if I run into a store for 2 minutes. @@HeavyMetalWRX
I'm never buying RED ever again. I had an 04 SRT4 and I was pulled over alot. I had cops call another county department because they couldn't catch me. Of course I had no idea lol
good video paaji!!
One thing you may have missed is the slight difference in turning radius. Base at 36.8 feet and the three others at 36.74 feet. My
understanding is this is due to the premium, limited and GT all having the inverted front struts.
That may have been the case with the previous gen, but Base VB uses part numbers 20310VC220 and 20310VC230 for front struts, same as Premium and Limited. Subaru def lists a slight radius difference though.
@@icemantuck2638 Maybe down to a slight difference in tire/wheel total circumference?
I wonder if that' it. Can't imagine anything else. @@keiser255
I don’t see any headlight washers all Australian trims do.
It’s weird but I’m not afraid to admit it 😂
Bought my 23 limited WRX with 8k miles on it, previous owner dumped 5k in aftermarket parts, wheels and tires, and I walked out the dealership at $33,500.00 and couldn’t be happier, sale price of the vehicle itself was 30,999.00
@@RisingSunWRX wow that's so awesome! You got to save some money on mods!
@@HeavyMetalWRX money on a FMIC, intake, Enkie wheels, continental tires, and fender flares, it was insane how low they marked it down. And just with all the features like the sunroof, seats, and other goodies it was too good to pass up!
Slicktop premium all the way!
I got 23 premium solar orange pearl with black and solar orange leather and no sunroof also I have a life time warranty
I’m trying to get into the Subaru family just obviously we all want the TR but what is the best value trim to look into and color.
Premium all the way. 15k in and it’s the most fun car I’ve owned by a long shot.
@@HeavyMetalWRX I realized I'm more disgruntled buy Android Auto being 1) Not full screen 2) PITA to actually start up LOL.
Base model gang!
The spt transmission is more expensive on the premium and up because it gets an air transmission cooler and the base does not.
Interesting... doesn't explain the 200 dollar price jump again between premium and limited, though.
I was going to get a base but my dealer had a premium package 11 (I think that is one up from the base) on the lot with the all weather mats and 6 miles they worked with me on and I pulled the trigger. ETA... why am I double posting?....
Rolled 3 22wrxs this year 😂just bought a 2023
I got the limited for under msrp so I couldn't pass it up as my daily.
Same! 5K below sticker from my limited. How could I say no
Number 5 with Cheese, miss you!
Would you like fries with that ? 😂
Just wait for the STI
At a minimum limited trim. Subabru wrx is very primitive, almost Neanderthal compared to to other trim vehicles I’ve owned. I own a 2023 limited and it’s about as comparable as a base vehicle from Toyota.
Base gang
You still get keyless entry with base. It's just push button start
No push button start with the Base model - you have to turn the key.
*Manual vs Auto pricing sounds to me like Subaru is trying to keep the manual alive, like back in the old days.*
Does the premium give you a better exhaust ???
It does not. All the exhausts are the same.
No front mount intercooler.
Which trim is tr based on?
There weren't many around to buy.
Went premium in world rally blue
I'm team Limited.
Tbh if i would have gotten a limited if I tried the seats.
@@HeavyMetalWRXindeed. Also, don't sleep on the headlights.
Limited
Get the WRX TR
A 2007 Trim
...Base is lighter which means it's quicker and stops faster unless you carry all that chedda in yo pocket that u saved from buying the base😂
Save your money, get a used F80 M3 for 48k all day 💯
That's actually still not good value.
If I had to it’d be the one above base with the full screen. That half screen crap looks cheap af even if the interior has always been crap.
First
You zoomed
The only thing that legitimately sucks about this car is the sound system. It is HORRENDOUS and I am not exaggerating. Other than that it’s the shit!
