      Hey, that’s nice to hear for a change, right? At the end of the day, it’s your car. And if you’re a fan of them, more power to you! I can see why people don’t like them. However, like I said in the video, I like the fact that they seem durable, and easily replaceable. If you are driving the WRX how it should be driven (offroad a bit, over gravel, through dirt/snow, etc.) I feel like you should have to have those replaced at least once, am I right?!

    This is one of the best and most informative reviews of the WRX for the average daily driver. Well done, informative, and detailed. I like the fact that he doesn’t nitpick about his personal dislikes other the signal lights which are brutal. We just bought a 2023 Sport-Tech with the 6speed manual, and we’re not the normal demographic buyers. We’re in our late 50s and we like performance cars that aren’t over priced. Saying goodbye to our C43 AMG, and hello WRX.

      Thank you so much Micheal! Comments like this are what keep me going with my channel, honestly. It truly means a lot. ❤️
      And yes, I try to not harp on things toooo much that are mostly just subjective opinion/personal taste. I appreciate you noticing that though! Most of the time, I just throw it out there, and then move on. However, I could not let those turn signals go… To me personally, those are absolutely absurd, and they don’t belong on any-car any-where, let alone an affordable AWD performance car for the masses.
      I try to give as much of an unbiased opinion as possible to my viewers. And if I’m not unbiased, I usually openly admit it. 😅 However, you are totally right in the sense that I don’t need to beat a dead horse and say that I don’t like the look of the car 1000 times for instance, because clearly there are many people that in fact, really like how it looks! With stuff like that, I feel like it should be mostly up to the beholder to decide. People are going to make a decision whether they like it or not for themselves, and that’s the real beauty of it! I just briefly try to let people how I feel about it, and then let them form their own opinion with the information I have given them.
      Going from a Mercedes AMG to a WRX is a HUGE change! I would say though, not necessarily for the worse! However, you had a growling V8 in that thing, correct? Not all of those models do, but I know the older ones did. If so, I would definitely miss the grunt and low end torque of that motor. Ride quality and pure style are also a factor. However, I’m sure you will have an absolute BLAST in your new WRX. If I were you, I wouldn’t be able to wait to take it on the next adventure!
      Enjoy it, and drive safe! -Mark 😎

      The AMG C-43 is the smaller bi-turbo 6 banger, so the difference won't be as bad. The big difference is the price point, service costs, and the fact that Mercedes thinks their s**t doesn't stink. The Subaru family doesn't seem to have that stigma. I think the WRX will give us plenty of enjoyment, performance, long-term value, ad some thumbs-up from other drivers.. Also the advantage of going from a 2-door coupe to a 4-door sport sedan will have some benefits. Keep up the great work, and I've subscribed to your channel. @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews

      @@michaelcampbell1888 Gotcha. I totally agree with you! I don’t think you’ll be missing out TOO much regarding the powerplant. However, you are definitely going to be saving A LOT of money and headaches repairing a Subaru overtime then ANY German car pretty much. 😅
      Having 4 doors is certainly another benefit. I have 2 (count) 2 door coupe’s myself! They certainly are fun and all, and they both serve my needs as a daily driver and a weekend warrior very well right now. However, I have noticed that I’m going to need a 4 door sometime sooner or later. Between driving around friends, family, and maybe even kids one day, I’m starting to see the writing on the wall… At least just for the daily driver! The weekend warrior is definitely still going to be a 2 door. 😁
      Thank you so much, Micheal! Truly means a lot. Take care, and have a good one! 😎

      Yes, overall I thought it was a really good car for the money. This car would be one of my top choices for a fun daily driver if I still lived in the New England area. I think it would be especially good for, and perform exceptionally well on the winding dirt/gravel/snowy mountain roads of NH, ME, or VT.
      The turn signals are unfortunately one of its biggest downsides. I have no idea why Subaru decided to design them like that. It honestly makes you not want to use them, which is VERY bad. I wonder if there is a way to modify/fix that major flaw… Hopefully in the 2024 model year, they will have that converted back to a normal turn signal that has worked perfectly fine for almost 100 years. 😅
      Either way, best of luck with your new WRX, and happy new year! -Mark

      Yes, the clutch is very easy to figure out. It’s an excellent car to learn how to drive a manual transmission on. It’s also super easy and fun for an experienced manual transmission driver too! I hear you, my friend! To be honest, I usually do compare cargo capacities with the seats up, and the seats folded down. I typically don’t forget, especially when I do an SUV. However, I think I just simply left it out with this one. During my research, I couldn’t find a cargo capacity number with the seats folded down. So, I figured I wouldn’t bother mentioning it if I didn’t have a number comparison for the viewers. Also, as you can see by that shot when I’m standing behind the car, the sun was setting, and I was running out of time that day. So, I just tried to hurry up, and clearly just left it out to try and get the shoot done as quickly as possible.

      We don't care about those stupid safety features, and sure the better trim and seats would be nice but not the end of the world, and the dampers..... Well if you want to drive it with a MT in a sporty manner then you want stiff suspension anyway.
      The rear bumper is the worst part in my opinion, but ah well, i still couldn't resist but to buy it, but yeah would've been nice for the MT to come in top spec, just not the end of the world in my opinion.

Honestly reminds me of how the Pontiac Aztec looked. 😂😂😂 however, in World Rally Blue, or black, I feel like it actually looks pretty dang cool. The fender flares are much more subtle, which many would agree is a good thing!
      Nothing wrong with you not liking them though. A lot of people really aren’t fans of them, and it took a while for them to grow on me as well. I own a 2022 Premium WRX, I love it, however there are definitely areas that are lackluster, namely the prominence of so much gaudy black plastic trim, which, in my case, has been easy to rectify with aftermarket factory paint-matched trim options. That being said, the number one area that I had to fix immediately is the absolute slush-box that the shifter feels like from the factory, and again, easily fixed through a Billetworkz shift-stop shifter dampener, which made for a vast improvement, and proficiently improves my ability to shift more quickly and accurately (also coupled with the factory STi short-throw shifter.) Regardless, fantastic review, keep up the good work!

      Thank you so much man! I really appreciate that. 👍 And yes, the car is not perfect. However, I feel like you nailed the most important thing to upgrade on this car with the shifter dampener. With the transmission being one of the aspects that connects you most to this car, I feel like that would be an absolute game changer. As you are well aware, I said in the video that it seems difficult to upshift the car quickly. In turn, that makes it more tedious, and less fun to drive spiritedly. That would be one of the FIRST things I’d upgrade if I owned this car. Props to you, because I’m sure it feels like a whole different car now. Yes, indeed! Another gentleman commented a few weeks ago and said that he not only has the STi short-throw shifter (& knob) that came with the car, but then he further upgraded it with a Billetworkz shift-stop shifter dampener. He said that this made a VAST improvement to the way the transmission felt, and it now allows him to shift much more quickly and accurately. Just to make sure that your WRX in fact has it installed, I would double check your window sticker to make sure that it's in your options package. If it's not, I would highly recommend upgrading both the shifter, and the shifter dampener.

    It took like 4k miles for my shifter to break in. I actually brought the car in because I was having problems putting the car into first and second felt a little crunchy. The dealer put 20 miles on my car and called me and said there was nothing wrong with it. They never put the car on a lift to check it. Service manager smirked and said it’s a Subaru thing. Soo I jacked the car up to see what was going on and what do you know all the bolts were loose or missing due to whoever installed the sti shifter when I bought it soo I popped the linkage off the shifter and a little piece of white plastic fell out. I put the car back together and it’s fine now. They don’t want to service anything at the dealer. Service sucks so I switched dealers. Now they don’t want to give me my free oil changes. I’d never buy another Subaru again and it’s all due to their service. They treat you like you’re 20 years old and beating on the car. They don’t want to service anything. They suck. I’ve had new Nissan’s, mustangs , Toyotas and never had a problem with warranty work. Competition Subaru Smithtown ny is the worst when it comes to service. I found that out pretty quick.

They don’t have a right to your business, they have to earn it!
      By the way, did that dealership install your STI short shifter? Or did that come from the factory?

    • @6spd85notch
      @6spd85notch 6 місяців тому +1

      @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews the dealer did install the shifter the day I picked it up. Subaru knows people are going to tune these cars which means they’re not responsible for fixing them. Once it’s tuned your warranty is gone. The 2024 wrx TR. TR stands for tuner ready which is why they sell it with a lethargic 271hp and brakes that will stop a Cadillac. Once people get the car they’re going to tune them for more power. Once they do their warranty is gone. Not just engine but the whole car. Transmissions for a 22-24 wrx as far as I know are selling for 5k$. It’s a bad situation for buyers but great for Subaru not having to warranty them once they’re tuned. It’s a money maker.

      @@6spd85notch Gotcha. Yeah, still not a fan of that mindset though. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not expecting them to really ever make a WRX model with 500+ HP/TQ. However, I think that the WRX has been one of the most non-improved/stagnant models as far as power goes across the entire enthusiast car category. Even the Mazda has improved the Miata’s horsepower by over 50% since it came out in 1990. It started off with 116 HP, and now it has 181 HP. The first year the WRX came to the US in 2002, it had 227 HP. Now it only has 271 comparatively. That’s less than 20% over 21 years. I totally understand your point with how it’s a moneymaker, but it doesn’t change my mind that I think the WRX now should be 300 across-the-board.
      Anyway, I appreciate the insight, and I wish you luck with your car! It is still very fun to drive, especially on loose surfaces, or a nice winding back road. 😎

      @@Mike_44 Yeah man, I totally get that. However, it’s not like the WRX won’t work for a family! Yes, you lose a decent amount of cargo space in the trunk compared to a Forester. However, you can still easily fit car seats, and most of what you would need in the back anyway! And if you really want extra storage, you can also get a roof rack with a Thule for even more space if you really need it. But then, if you want to leave the family at home and take the car out for a spirited drive, just take the Thule off, and you’re good to go!

    • @DoubleClutchAutoReviews
      @DoubleClutchAutoReviews  11 місяців тому +1

      Not really actually! Overall, I felt like the car was very solid. I will say this though… This WRX is 100% able to go faster than it can handle being stable at those speeds. I’d say that can be considered a good thing, but also a bad thing…
      During my high-speed testing down in Mexico, at what I thought was near top speed, a little over “13” (wink wink) MPH, I could feel the car become significantly less stable, especially compared to “11” or “12”. It almost felt as if the tires couldn’t handle the speed, and the car was increasingly wafting out from under me ever so slightly.
      If someone were looking to be able to push the WRX to its top speed limit, I would highly recommend upgrading to some higher performance summer tires, or maybe even some other mods like a steering stabilizer, or even coilovers potentially to help curb that instability. Other than that though, the car felt pretty good for what it was!
      If you are interested in potentially buying one of these though, my best advice would be to test drive one for yourself! Especially make sure you take it on the highway (at speeds you’re comfortable with) and make sure that it feels stable enough for you.

    Amazing how being tall is so awesome, but everyone complains about head and leg room. Meanwhile I'm 5' 4" and fit in all vehicles just fine. I can put my seat all the way up and be fine, or all the way to floor and be fine. Being tall is overrated

    • @DoubleClutchAutoReviews
      @DoubleClutchAutoReviews  11 місяців тому +1

      LMAO that is hilarious that you mention that. I don't know if you'll believe this, but when I was younger, I used to actually wish I wasn't as tall as I am because I wanted to have a lower center of gravity. I thought that would help me with sports and what not (football for tackling/hitting, skateboarding for having better control of the board/balance, etc.) Now, being older, I realize that kind of thought is absolutely ridiculous, and I should be perfectly fine with my height either way. You are totally right. Being a tall guy is certainly not a bad thing in 99% of instances in life. Yet, tall and tallish people like me still complain about not fitting in vehicles all of the time, and it can be pretty silly. I would never sacrifice an inch of height just so I can sit straight up in the back of a WRX.
      However, I did experience a recent incident that I was genuinely a little bummed that I was as tall as I am, and I think you might appreciate this. I did a bunch of reviews recently with a friend of mine who has his own little private dealership in southeastern Massachusetts. He has a ton of cool cars, and I reviewed 2 cars with him; a Lamborghini Gallardo, and a Plymouth Prowler. I was going to do a third one, but I couldn't, because I physically could not turn the steering wheel more than about 20-30 degrees without the edge of the "D" shape of it digging into my right thigh. I'm sure you've heard of a Campagna T-Rex, right? The 3-wheeled side-by-side that Rob Dyrdek pretty much made famous in the early to mid 2000s. It was basically the $70,000 high-end Polaris Slingshot before that existed.
      It has a 208 HP Kawasaki ZX-14R motor that revs out to 10,000 RPM and rips through a sequential pattern (1 down, 5 up) 6-speed manual trans. It was SO DANG FUN to rip that thing in a straight line. However, I couldn't take it out of his neighborhood, and I definitely couldn't do a proper review on it because I couldn't steer it. I couldn't move my leg out of that position either if I wanted to have any control over the throttle pedal at all. THAT'S HOW TIGHT IT WAS IN THERE! However, you would have fit more than perfectly fine in that T-Rex, and you would have had an absolute blast ripping that thing around! In that instance, you would have definitely benefited with you height. We also did everything we could to try to figure out how to adjust the steering wheel or the seat position, and we could not do it on the T-Rex that they had.
      Nonetheless, I hope you appreciated that story, and I also hope you enjoyed the review video either way! If you did, please make sure to leave me a like, and also consider subscribing! It really helps me grow my channel, and I certainly appreciate it. Take care, and have good one! -Mark

      I can totally see how that would make sense, but it doesn’t make me any less disappointed honestly! In my opinion, just because you are already better than your competition in a certain aspect, doesn’t mean you should just settle. I mean come on, with modern technology, I feel like it would be easy for Subaru to get 300 HP and torque out of this motor, AND do it reliably. They already beefed up the displacement by 0.4 L, so why not put that extra beef to good use! 😆
      Either way, I still thought it was a very fun car to drive. However, in my personal opinion, up until the point that you can’t hook up because the tires can’t handle the power, I will probably always say that the car could use more power! 😅😅😅

    I never liked it when it came out and still don't but I believe your choice in color has a lot to do with it. The very dark sapphire blue one actually looks great, any of the brighter colors looks bad. The rear diffuser I don't understand they went way too tacky, how did they do the diffuser so bad? Also the tail lights suck also, they're the same as a Honda civic and doesn't give the car any signature road presence like a mustang or camaro. Also are those Halogen turn signals? Looks so ugly on a premium car in 2023 should be full LED

      Yeah, I hear a lot of your points. The World Rally Blue really is awesome on this car. The diffuser, on the other hand, just straight up looks like a full diaper. I have no idea why they went so big with it. Oh well! I hear your point about the tail lights, but I really did like that lava/magma effect inside of them. That to me was super cool. They do very similar to the previous generation Civic tail lights though, I definitely agree with that. A distinct road presence in the WRX would be nice. And you are right! I feel like only super affordable models of cars should have halogen lights these days. They totally get a pass in my opinion. Even the base model of the WRX is questionable. If you are crossing over the $30,000 mark for your base price, I agree that they should have all LEDs.

      Yeah, I agree. I feel like many Subarus that I’ve driven have super short gears in general. The benefit of the gears being short is faster acceleration off of the line though, purely based on the physics of gearing. And, if you live in a mountain or snowy region, like a lot of WRX owners probably do, that low and strong 1st gear probably helps them with getting up some slippery steep hills. However, I did notice that you had to shift very very quickly. It made it difficult to get a smooth 0-60 full throttle dig.
