- Watch the full episode: • French Alps and Lyon One of the world’s oldest mountain resorts, Chamonix has long made it easy for romantics to enjoy its alpine wonders - starting with a cogwheel train to the Mer de Glace glacier. Nowadays, visitors can stroll inside the “sea of ice” while noting poignant markers indicating how dramatically it’s shrinking. Thank you, Rick!!! Those of us who have experienced these glaciers in real life (for me, in 1964 and ‘69) when they were vastly higher and longer, this is a vital wake-up call-if we’ve actually managed to remain oblivious to the effects of global warming. Those who refuse to acknowledge what is actually happening need to stop lying to themselves and everyone else. Mother Earth is telling us something andWE NEED TO LISTEN.
Chomonix city of France with by the thrain glad seeing the view a nother very happy quit beatiful relaxing film calming music
Love Rick Steve's videos. Been watching since the mid 90s, as a Teen. I had to leave the US and live in a Couple of Countries in Europe (Military Father). I did some of my High School in Europe.
It was Rick Steve's videos along with pre language tutoring, etc, that got me through the tough times. Now in my 40s, the videos are still very informative. Thanks!
Happy Travels!🙂👍
Thanks for you service
@@RuralAdventures it was my Dad that served, NOT me. Thanks. He just passed away.

Thanks Rick. I enjoy all your videos. So well done. I look forward to welcoming you in person in Canada
Exactly my experience as well with some of the glaciers in the French and Swiss alps. The difference from only 20 years ago to today is heartbreaking.

Beautiful place. It blows my m8nd that some don't believe in climate change.
Just as the Olympics has meant different things to different people over the millennia's, so has the climate always been a source of controversy, since the only climate data collected has been at the most collected only for about 75 years.
For example:
the first name of Athens, Greece
was actually Cecropia.
According to tradition,
Cecrops came out of Egypt and founded
the city, in 1556 B.C.
And Cecrops reigned as the first king.
The name of Cecropia, Greece was later
changed to Athens, Greece after the
goddess Athena.
Now as to climate change, the water flow of the Nile river in Egypt, has
several very Ancient tools used to measure the flow. One such Nilometer, there are several located along the Nile River at different locations.
The Nilometer
Location: gps, precise

32* 53' 13" E.
that is located on the Island of
Elephantine, Egypt
close by the
Temple Of Khnum
Location: gps, precise
24* 05' 05" N.
32* 53' 10" E.
the importance of saving these
Ancient Historical sites, is imperative,
to the study of climate on the planet earth.
Destruction of these sites by the
Iconoclast and Vandalisme,
threatens such valuable data.
Ancient Data Records indicate that
the change of climate, is a very natural phenomenon.
However we must concede that
Chainsaws did not exist, in the rainforests before 1960 A.D.

This video is too short😭😭😭
Stop it Steves. Whoever is convincing you to address politics is going to ruin you and all you've accomplished. You could have easily presented this story (with same narrative) in a politically neutral manner. I love this show. It kept my hope and dreams alive when I was going through a hard time in the 90s. I recovered and visited Europe in 2011. All because of this show. Stay neutral or it'll end all you've achieved.
What politics? Climate change?
Obviously just uprating his own comment...
@@ROMA--AETERNA Probably uses multiple accounts.
Agreed NelsonClick.
Politics? Climate change? Only for US American conservatives. The vast majority of the rest of the world know it is recent historical fact that science is studying to understand. Perhaps if you were to actually visit those places (such as the Netherlands, Kiribati, Bangladesh, etc.) where climate change is a real everyday threat, you'd be able to learn something.
Nice
