As a former Church Warden and minister I can categorically state that dogs are welcome any time in our local churches. ps Altar rails were first put in place to stop people's dogs trying to eat the Communion bread because it was assumed people would be bringing their dogs.
Fran, cut me a piece of that cake and I'll be right over! We don't have the history here in the USA like you do and it's so fascinating, can't thank you enough, the grafetti was amazing, spring is coming!
I've watched a few of your episodes now and again over the past year, but decided to catch up on all them so I've binge-watched them all over the last three evenings! Great stuff. I really enjoy your "go for it" attitude to boating. Looking forward to more, now I'm up-to-date.
I love all your videos, unfortunately I watch them on my smart tv which does not allow comments or thumbs up. What I love the most is when you take the camera to places you visit, shops, walks, historic places, etc. Keep up the good work.
Lovely vlog, as always. Bunbury church looks really beautiful and distinguished. There can be no problem with taking dogs into the church. They were clean and are, after all, part of the creation, just like human beings.
I very much enjoy your vlogs. Not simply 'I live on a boat' vlogs, more of 'see what you can experience in life, and as a couple'. Very touching, very enlightening' - wonderful.
Hiya Fran&Rich. I was at Venetion marina yesterday and saw Constanza moored opposite, I enquired after your well-being and was told that Rich had a fall and was somewhat incapacitated. I hope he is on the mend and not badly injured. Hope to see you moving out on the cut shortly. Well done Fran for doing your nursey bit. Good luck. Cheers Brian NB SAMPSON
Hi Brian. You should have come to say hello. Rich has torn the ligaments in his ankle so is on crutches for a while, but with a little time and patience, he will be fine.
Thank you for another gone-walking about that town video. Like you lot, I enjoy (your visits to) such places, especially seeing the architecture and hearing bits of the history of medievil churches. Cheers!
I assume this was all shot before Rich took his tumble! Bunbury looked lovely. There are some wonderful cities, towns and villages in the UK and you are showing everyone how many can be easily accessed from the canal. I love your videos. Thanks for sharing your adventure. I hope the wine is working and that Rich is recovering. Take care.
Love the name Bunbury, thank you for the walk around the delightful village. I understand Rich has suffered an injury, I wish him a speedy recovery, Thank you and take care.
Another lovely video,Fran Dutch Apple cake was a favorite in outback shearing sheds while l was walking the boards . Rich l was just thinking he is getting bloody clever with his editing/dubbing when you revealed the new mic ,walkie talkies what will they think of next. I remember reading about Sir Hugh Calveley, he was supposed to have been a giant of a man 7ft 6 with patchy, badly receding flame red hair & extraordinary long teeth ,it was said his looks alone would send his foes running, his forearms were supposedly twice as big as any mans .He was legendary for drinking whole rooms of men under the table & his appetite was that large that he was fed special large meals at gatherings & they became that well known they could be ordered as you wanted a Calveleys size meal. I always think when seeing those beautiful old buildings of how many must have been lost around the world in wars etc & what great works of not just Art but craftsmanship with furniture, building interiors etc all lost to mans stupidity & ego.
Hi Daryl how ya doing? Id forgotten to mention sir Hughe's height. He mustve been an imposing figure on the battlefield. The World should be run by women only everything would still be intact. 👍
@@FloatingOurBoat We have been really enjoying our time in South Africa & had a great but exhausting time doing our motorbike expedition through India to Nepal & as close to the Himalayas base camp as possible, then flying in by Helicopter. We will be back at home on the farm in Oz in May all going well. Sir Hugh was said to have more in common with Vikings than anyone & thrived on the old Rape & Pillage & a little bit of plunder motto & lived as a mercenary basically while trying to portray himself as a saint . Hence the trying to absolve his sins with the church etc in later life, from memory he had a mark chiselled into the stone work to show his height but it was removed later when the truth of his acts became more well known after his death ,maybe by the nutter statue planter . It was rumored grave robbers stole his bones for use by witches to make strength & growth etc potions. Give the dogs a pat from us & great to see your cruising life going well.
Dutch apple cake delicious! My son and family live in the Netherlands and I adore Dutch apple cake . Love the vlogs as we gave up boating years ago due to ill health. Keep up the good work. health
Well done for another great vlog, loved the walk into Bunbury, have been very successful with your bread recipe Fran, looking out for gram flour now, the apple cake looked delicious, Rich is certainly spoilt. Waiting for next one. Keep warm & keep safe.
Nothing wrong with a brisk walk on a cold morning and your right you do feel better. I love the fact that you take time to see the local villages, churches etc, makes your channel really interesting. Cake to follow lovely.
superb as always guys. the mic works brill great addition n the church was stunning even after you left all them dirty dog prints all over the floor lolololololo
Hi guys another great video I think the new wireless microphone is working great thanks stay safe and happy and safe boating cheers Barry Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

Great video as always, really enjoyed it and going round the church is a thing I always enjoy , hope Rich is feeling a bit better, torn ligaments take quite a while to heal , take care ATB Paul x
Remote mic is great. We love that you get off the boat and show us the country. We grew up heating with coal in a state, Wyoming, that produces coal. Hasn't killed us yet.
I know Lynn. We do all have to do our bit against climate change, but I think it is the powers that be trying to show they are doing something when in fact they are not tackling the problem at all.
Hi Fran and Rich! Everything you make looks divine!!! Would you mind sharing the apple cake recipe? I love how you let nothing go to waste!! That church is beautiful!!! I am really enjoying all of your fun adventures! Please keep sharing:) xoxo, from the USA!
Hi Christy. I don't have a set recipe. I usually just look on the internet and adapt a recipe to suit what ingredients I have in the cupboards. It normally works out ok!!
Another good video,we are getting restless now, caravan season starts 15 March, not seeing as much scenery as you but still enjoy can’t beat that North Sea wind very refreshing, safe travelling
Another great video as usual, man I could go for a slice of that Apple cake looks delicious especially with a nice hot cup of tea! Wondered how you were coping with all the bad weather you guys have had over there, wish you well and keep up the good work!
What a nasty little man Mr Cunliffe must be! Anyway we have been enjoying all your videos and trying to catch up. We love your commentary and production, lovely balance of narrowboat, canal facts and history. Also we very enjoy Frans cooking tips, will be trying those fritter things for sure. Myself and my wife and hoping to get our boat next spring and look forward to hopefully meeting you guys on the cut, or in the pub. Best regards, Rob and Fiona.
Wow, what a church, even though I not at all religious, I am always impressed by old churches by there construction. Also tell Fran I stop by for a bit of apple cake lol. 👍🙂
Came through Bunbury yesterday and it was freezing wind; few months time we will all be complaining its tooooo hot. Nice to meet you and your lovely dogs at Tilston.
New subscriber and bell ringer from the US. Great stuff. Really like the mix of the travelogue and the bits of operation on the canal. Both are very informative and inspiring! You guys need to start getting a commission for boat sales. Hope to see you out there some day!
I doubt the dry wood issue will be an issue. Not sure how it is legislated in the UK, but here in WA we have had that in for 20+years. Here it just means the wood yards/sellers are not allowed to sell wood that hasn't been dried for at least 12months. Another great vlog, thank you. Did mean to add.....that apple cake looks delicious....you are a tease...:)
Thanks for showing us the beautiful scenery. The church was lovely. Also, like your new microphone system. I was wondering how we heard you so well from so far away.
'The bulging udders of Jane', haha that must have been a very frustrated vicar :D And you are quite right Fran, going out of the house (or the boat) for a walk, even if it is only for an hour or so is good for you. Thanks for another great video, always love to watch them, ATB!
Nice one that wood thing dose my head right in people have been burning wood to keep warm since the beginning of time a bit of wood on a coal fire helps keep the cost down and more heat keep doing what ya doing there nowt wrong with it that’s my rant ✌️
Hi guys that's such a lovely area that you have been travelling in. What a great looking church. I should be getting my engine back from RCR on Thursday so as soon as the river is down I can get out there cruising and doing some proper vlogging. Your vlogs always make me hungry lol. Take care hope Richard will soon be on the mend. Thanks Alan.
I don't know about churches, since I am a non-religious person. But I will tell you that Fran and Rich, plus their lovely two dogs, are welcome into my home at any time. You, sir, are not!
thank you for another lovely vid i find them all so relaxing to watch and love your choose of music...and please could we have the recipe for the apple cake it looked yummy...thanks.
Im no great cook. I just find a recipe on line to fit the ingredients in our cupboard. This is the recipe I often use as it only needs one egg, but I change the ingredients. This one had no sultanas. Sometimes I add walnuts. I put half the apple chopped up in the cake and lay the rest sliced on the top. It always works well. www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/dorset-apple-cake
Yes, Bunbury is a pretty village. You might recall a tv series called Home Fires based on the Second World War which was largely filmed in and around Bunbury a few years ago.
Floating Our Boat I don’t know about lunchtimes, but we watched it on a Sunday evening. If you had popped into the excellent little chippy, the wooden shed near the central village triangle just across from Wyche Lane which you came out of, they have a great display of cuttings and photos showing how the series was made. The chippy was a small petrol station in the series, but now produces excellent fish and chips, we were there last week! It included a crashed spitfire or hurricane which had wrecked a house! Largely a story based on the WI and women’s/ villagers adventures in the war.
great video again guys. I still have not used my remote mic since I have been on the boat. I has rained everytime I have moved the boat. Everything has been gopro footage.
Hi Fran and Rich.At home West London as a treat we burn Smokeless Fuel and Seasoned logs when it gets real cold. When they say no Wet wood do they mean Green, unseasoned wood ,[ Which is no good to burn,] or do they mean only Kiln Dried wood ?? If they mean Kiln Dried then what about the Energy used to dry it ?? Thanks for the Vlog , That Mic is a good piece of kit. Cheers
Ah, well that is another side to it. I think sometimes these legislation are just made to show they are doing something, but in reality they are not tackling the problem at all. Thanks for your comment x
The church looks high Anglican, correct me if I'm wrong. What tea do you drink; Prince of Wales Irish breakfast English breakfast Thanks for the lock and stables. 😇🍞🍷
Weil's disease(leptospirosis) as flu like symptoms so I would keep that in the back of your mind when you have flu like symptoms... ( you have more chance of catching it on the river and canals) Nice to see you're out and about and feeling a bit better love your videos👍👍👍👍👍 on the subject of coal etc..... My idea of living on the canal was you didn't get told what to do as much as you would living on dry land by the government and the council etc however I suppose you can't get away from it can you no matter what you do.... I see you soon on the cut👍👍👍😁
Nice walk-about. Love the stone work in the church. They are fantastic to visit and photograph if allowed. We use pre-engineered wood in our stove when the power goes out as backup heat. Cold here today, it's minus -3 Celsius and snowing. They say about 10 cm. "Oh".......... yes Apple Cake and Tea. ..... Rich, How did your drone make out? ?
Im not even going to comment on the person who posted your pinned comment, he doesn't deserve the infamy, strange how he hasn't responded to his new fans😂 Anyway brilliant vid as always, I could almost taste that apple cake, and as for Rich's new wireless mic, well impressed. Thats just been added to my very long, I want list. Hope the leg is on the mend👍
Ignore the busybody comment. The dogs were clean and well mannered. Tell us sometime which is Jess and which is Archie? Hope you are feeling better. There is a wretched cold going around here--all the neighbors have it, and we've not been together. We're guessing we all caught it at the grocery store.
Walk on Roads Single File Unless you are on a sidewalk separated from the road or you are in a wide bike/pedestrian lane, you should walk in single file. This is especially important on a road with lots curves and where traffic has only a split second chance of seeing you before hitting you.
Hi i love watching your videos and kinda curious have you ever been to a canal that is eerie? Have a beautiful day and keeo safe to your journey im new subscriber here from the Philippines
Great video & nice use of the wireless mic! I especially enjoyed the shot you used while “de-mooring” (?) the boat. Am curious, are most folk ok with well trained dogs that are off leash along the tow path? ...Thinking of the man who was walking his dog in the aforementioned shot. Finally, and I apologize for such a long comment, my bride & I are considering a narrow boat holiday in your country this year to celebrate 30 years of wedded bliss. (We live in Massachusetts) My last question has to do with safety..it appears that personal safety is a very common topic among NB vloggers. How safe is it, really, along the canals & would you recommend a particular area to visit (with that in mind) for tourist like us? Your videos are a delight to watch! Thanks!
Hi Jonathan. Most people a fine with the dogs off the lead and in the countryside, most are off the lead anyway. Dont worry about safety. We have only had a couple of bad experiences in 2 years and they were both with kids just messing about on the rough edges of built up cities. I would say steer clear of big cities like Birmingham and Manchester for a relaxing holiday, maybe the peak forest canal or the oxford canal if you want to visit an historic city as well. There is a hire boat company right on the edge of oxford.
Hello you two. Absolutely first class presentation as always. New mic system faultless. Apple cake yum-yum. Sorry to hear of Rich's stumble, but us Brummy lads are made of tough stuff. Almost forgot, wanted to ask what camera you use on selfie stick when out walking ? Is it the same one you use from the stern of the boat when cruising ? Also, being really nosey now, what is the make and model of Rich's drone. Sorry for all the questions but you are our favourite boat tubers. Incidentally, our share boat is in Aqueduct marina just up the cut from you. Happy boating, keep safe.
Hi Bob, the camera on the stick is a go-pro hero 7 and we do sometimes use this on the boat but rich also uses a Canon M50 for filming. The drone I'd a DJI spark. Hope that helps. We have just been past aqueduct marina but it was hailing so I had my head down. Thanks for watching
Hi guys loving the Bloggs , I'm only on episode 28, bit of catching up to do yet ( that last comment about the Dogs and Church, some people eh ? ) I for one am enjoying the videos and yes i have been inspired by your selves and many other Narrowboat bloggers here on UA-cam, and I'm in the process of selling up my Home, then I will be Buying a Narrowboat to continually cruise the waterways just like you guys. I would just like to ask, I'm sure i heard Rich say he Painted ? well as a fellow Artist I would like to ask if we are going to see any of his work ?? I will be bringing my Art equipment with me when i move aboard but unlike you guys I will be doing it on my own. Also guys do you wish you had bought a newer Boat to avoid some of the breakdowns etc, or is that part of the Fun ( Fun lol ) keep enjoying it , and i must say what a lovely couple are and you seem very dedicated to each other , cheers.
Hi Mick thanks for your lovely comment. Best wishes to you with your adventures. This week we have been on board for two yrs and we are discussing our future and past boating life in the next vlog. Rich is a good artist but like most he discards more than he keeps. He hasnt done any artwork for years and is feeling his way through abstract landscapes at tbe moment. Maybe hell show something soon. Best sishes Fran.
Hi Paul. Yes we were stuck for about 2 weeks in the Autumn,I think it was episode 70 but we didn't film too much about it as we were having a break from filming. We were on s canal section but the river overflowed into it and we had to put likes in to stop us going over the edge. A bit scary.
Hello to you both. I always look forward to your videos. Also I always give a thumbs up. What remote microphone system are you using please? I have been hunting for one for a long time. Apple cake drool drool. Have a great evening. Raymond.
Hi Raymond thanks for watching. Heres a link RØDE Wireless GO - Compact Wireless Microphone System www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07QGGBNMN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_i4lxEbTFV0YBE
Sooo...Bunbury wasn't invented by Oscar Wilde after all. I never thought to wonder if it was a real place. Rich, wish I could fashion a time warp back to when this was filmed to tell you to be ultra careful on steps!
Wow Jane I had to look this up. I really wish we had known, it would have made a great addition to the video. Now I have to add this to the reading list as I love to read things with some kind of connection to places we visit. Thank you so much. X

Yes, Bunbury is a pretty village. You might recall a tv series called Home Fires based on the Second World War which was largely filmed in and around Bunbury a few years ago.
Was this the prog that was shown at lunchtimes? Thanks for watching.
Roll on spring eh?
Hi Fran and Rich.At home West London as a treat we burn Smokeless Fuel and Seasoned logs when it gets real cold. When they say no Wet wood do they mean Green, unseasoned wood ,[ Which is no good to burn,] or do they mean only Kiln Dried wood ?? If they mean
Kiln Dried then what about the Energy used to dry it ?? Thanks for the Vlog , That Mic is a good piece of kit. Cheers
Ah, well that is another side to it. I think sometimes these legislation are just made to show they are doing something, but in reality they are not tackling the problem at all. Thanks for your comment x
Have you ever thought of using walkie-talkies (two way radios/wireless handsets?) to communicate with one another while cruising?
We have very loud voices when needed and have developed our own system of hand signals.
The church looks high Anglican, correct me if I'm wrong. What tea do you drink;
Prince of Wales
Irish breakfast
English breakfast
Thanks for the lock and stables.
😇🍞🍷
Hi john. Its Earl Grey. Thanks for watching
Weil's disease(leptospirosis)
as flu like symptoms so I would keep that in the back of your mind when you have flu like symptoms... ( you have more chance of catching it on the river and canals)
Nice to see you're out and about and feeling a bit better love your videos👍👍👍👍👍
on the subject of coal etc.....
My idea of living on the canal was you didn't get told what to do as much as you would living on dry land by the government and the council etc however I suppose you can't get away from it can you no matter what you do....
I see you soon on the cut👍👍👍😁
Just before 4 minutes, was that a good porridge there on the towpath? Applecake needs custard in my world too.
We still haven't had a chance to take the drone out. We need a big safe area away from the canal and good weather!
Im not even going to comment on the person who posted your pinned comment, he doesn't deserve the infamy, strange how he hasn't responded to his new fans😂
Anyway brilliant vid as always, I could almost taste that apple cake, and as for Rich's new wireless mic, well impressed. Thats just been added to my very long, I want list. Hope the leg is on the mend👍
Thanks guys. Were looking fwd to seeing how the mic makes a difference. Leg is mending thanks. X
The new mic sounds great. Take Care
Ignore the busybody comment. The dogs were clean and well mannered. Tell us sometime which is Jess and which is Archie? Hope you are feeling better. There is a wretched cold going around here--all the neighbors have it, and we've not been together. We're guessing we all caught it at the grocery store.
Its taken some shaking off xx
Walk on Roads Single File
Unless you are on a sidewalk separated from the road or you are in a wide bike/pedestrian lane, you should walk in single file. This is especially important on a road with lots curves and where traffic has only a split second chance of seeing you before hitting you.
Hi i love watching your videos and kinda curious have you ever been to a canal that is eerie? Have a beautiful day and keeo safe to your journey im new subscriber here from the Philippines
Hi Bella. Can't remember ever feeling that it was eerie. Some of the tunnels can be very atmospheric and are supposed to be haunted though 😳
A nice pleasant video. Unfortunately if I go out for a walk in the cold my slipped disc knocks me out for the next few days.
Hopefully weather will be warming up soon x
Watched your vlog this afternoon and Pat insisted that I make Apple cake! Please refrain in future from making delicious looking cakes!
Oh no, sorry. Maybe we need a bake off. But no, we might get some foxes aboard if we did that. Hope to meet up some time xx
Floating Our Boat thank you so much x
Grains better than snow any day try living in Wisconsin.
FROM BERMUDA SHOW US HOW YOU TAKE ON FUEL ,WATER COAL ECT
Have you ever been caught in the floods when the rivers bust thier banks ?
Hi Paul. Yes we were stuck for about 2 weeks in the Autumn,I think it was episode 70 but we didn't film too much about it as we were having a break from filming. We were on s canal section but the river overflowed into it and we had to put likes in to stop us going over the edge. A bit scary.
When you buy supplies from the fuel boat, do you have to pay cash, or do you have an account or do they take credit cards?
Hi Jane. Fortunately they all take cards. Unfortunately not everywhere has good signal so sometimes cash is needed.
Thanks for watching x
What brand and model is the new wireless mic?
Its a Rode Wireless Go. Thanks.
Hi Guys, great Vlog again. Do you recommend the Rode wireless mic kit? 👍
We have only used it for this video, but so far seems to be really good.
Your footprint would be so small in comparison to many of us house and car owners.
That is so true x
