I'm 43 and I remember these back I'm the say they were honestly the unicorn of subwoofers and changed the bass community showing SPL could also be SQ if done right. Brings back so many memories.
Dude 42 hear and I just stole acquired a 15 from my older brother's garage. I was so excited but it was pretty toasty. I can't wait for the new coil replacement kit. My 2011 Sierra is abut to loos a rear seat for sure.
@@garc5a1944lol 41 here. Loudest vehicle I ever step foot in was a limo they turned into a sPL vehicle. It has 6 18s of these. 12 amps. 2 to each sub. Of the bigggest dogs kicker had at the time. Think they were called the XS1000 or zr1000 but wild.
Cerwin Vega Stroker was extremely popular back in like mid 90's and for a reason. Miss these older sub manufactures. I wish they would bring back the Fosgate Power series t1 and t2's with the aluminum plated cone. Fosgate if you are listening.
I'm 48 years old and still a bass head🔊😎🔊. I never had the opportunity to own one of them but a cousin mine had two of them. Those woofers ain't no joke. ✌out from Cali😎
😎 San Luis Obispo California here.
Hell yeah I remember those. The first sub that could handle the loaded horn bandpass 7th order. And extremely efficient. Massive SPL for little power. 1 18" will blow the window out with ease. Basically combining a stadium sub with car audio and making the best of both worlds. I came into the game when Jensen was American owned, Blaupunkt was one of the big guys, MTX Bluethunders were the shiznitz, and PPI 25x2 and 50x2 were the big boy amps. Oh, and don't forget the new tech, poly propylene subs just came out and there were even clear subs to show this off. Yeah, back in the day stuff.
DUDE, have you heard of the new amp company called "Zapco"?!? They have a separate outboard plug-in capacitor bank and do like 200 watts!!!
😁
Never thought I'd be seeing this bad boy again, like travelling back in time.
I LOVED the look of the old strokers. I wish I had a chance to hear them in person but I never have.
These subs inspired me to compete, build systems, and learn about acoustics.
I had the old 18" stroker in my station wagon(2001) the cabinet was almost as big as the car itself....ran it off an old single channel MtX amp, didn't matter what music you played it always sounded good.....thanks for the memories
My uncle Cliff had two stroker 18s in an extended cab c1500. That was my birth into bass. I remember jumping out then turning a circle and getting back in.
Man, this is nostalgia for me. This is the speaker that got me into car audio when I was 5. I remember when cerwin vega was in Simi Valley, CA. They haven’t been the same since they left SoCal.
This brings it back this is where it all began for me. Back when I was like 14 in the mid-2000s my cousin's friend he went to high school with had a mini truck with 2 cerwin Vega stroker 12 and a punch 1000 on it and let me tell you that pop my cherry and I was hooked from then on
And JP all I got to say is I've been following you for like over 10 years bro you come a long way you're definitely reaching the top man. Congrats on all the success
These subs sound so smooth its Unbelievable how much cone control they have.
Just bought a Vega Stroker 12" about 6 months ago. 1000RMS I have it hooked up to a old school Rockford 1501BD at 2 ohms and its AWESOME!
Was a little worried buying new Vega stuff because I heard they arent the same as the good old days but I'm very satisfied with it!
Cerwin Vega is underrated now adays.
History bro.. I remember these back when I was in high school mid-late 90's (couldn't afford them back then). Oh boy. Still some of the most gorgeous subs I've ever seen..... D4S continuously making waves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know about it! I love those things. I’ve never been able to hear one in person. I was young when those were out the first time.
Loving the Clarence Carter! My Pops used to play this song!
That's cool that JP doesn't just do conventional spl but now he's expanding his offerings, NICE!
Ooo I got chills when I saw it. This brings back many memories. I remember this dude had a bagged chevy astro van with 2 Cerwin vega strokers, as a matter of fact, cause of him, is actually the reason I fell in love with loud bassy systems. subwoofer system
I remember them from the mid 90's. There nice.💪💪💪
That is so awesome JP. Thank you very much for sharing.
I remember going to the ocean front arena in Daytona beach Florida years ago when they first came out!! Still enjoying my bass in my older life!! The strokers when awesome back in the day!! Bobby had a set and they slammed in the old school mini truck!!! Still live in Ocala Florida. Its a shame the spring nationals are not still happening! Please get with sound Crafters and get it on track again!! You can help out future bass heads and customers!!
Yesss...I used to see these in the magazines all the time!
Never saw one up close though
Man those old M&M God Father's got down too back in the day!!!!
I’ve heard 6x15” these new stroker classics and i can say the sound quality is unbelieveable.
Dude im 35 its 2020 and those are the truth. Those are super old school but anywho thanks Uncle Doug is the reason i got into car audio real car audio focusing on mids and highs before the lows. My unc had a 79 cutlass 10 kicker in a 4 order box pioneer mids highs and hu. That thing use to beat up the block but you could hear everything anywho. In the 90s he got a burban with those strokers on some us amps kenwoods mids and highs that thing scared me back then. Man i miss those days. R.I.P uncle Doug shout out to Price. Hope i get a demo next tour
Man loved the sub then and still and there's nothing wrong with your choice of music!!!!! Thank you jp
Half way through the video I realized the importance of the music in the background! Clarence Carter!
These were my dream subs back in high school. I may have to get a 15 now!
I used to have a two sets of Cerwin Vega setups... I had one 10in Cerwin Vega Striker on a Ol Skool MTX 1501d... Then I had two 12s the red and black face ones on a ol skool Ol Skool Earthquake PH 3k amp...
That's taking it back... Use to have a Fosgate PUNCH running one of those in the mid 90's
I had some 15s back in the day. One of the best subs i have had today for music. it barely moved. BUT put out so much sound. I'm coming for 1 of them 15s Holla at you soon.
WOW I haven't seen these in FOREVER!!! I hate showin my age but I had to comment on these monsters. So tbh I'd never seen the "Pro's" until now, but I do remember the OG CV Stokers and seeing that PIN within the spiders where the dustcap was supposed to be and thinking WTF is THAT?!!! And then when I actually HEARD them!?.... HOLY HECK THEY WERE INSANELY LOUD!!!! (for back then of course) But what cool thing to have at your shop JP this is really neat and I'm glad you did a vid on them too; nice little trip down memory lane. Good stuff man!
To this day the most beautiful sub made !
Had a set of those momsters on a us amps vlx 400 made many tap out and a few nose bleeds. Then years later got ahold of 2 pro 12s witb the acrylic dome ran them on 2 strapped brutus 2608 ds they were beasts as well
Them subs back in the day we’re like the one hit wonder. Everyone had some and they sounded great.
1997 the best car setup I ever heard, 2 cerwin vega 12s in a Maxima. He was a installer had access to the best EQ etc at the time.
Had one of these in the late eighties early nineties in the back of my Ford Scorpio. R.Kelly's honey love sounded great. Very deep and high SPL
Gene Czerwinsky definitely made history in lots of ways! A true pioneer in audio...
These bad boys are what got me into car audio...6 of these in a suburban @ Sound on Wheels, believe it was the 1st car in CO to hit 60s back in the 90s. Any Colorado bassheads remember it? C-pillar wall if I remember correctly...
First time I saw those was around 1996. We drove to a sound competition in Pennsylvania from Bronx, NY. My boy had all Lanzar shit and thought he was the man until A Suzuki Samurai pulled in the lane with four Strokers. That thing was the loudest system I had ever heard in my life, back then. Dude ended up winning the SPL competition.
Hmm I would like to see this comp with MTX RFL 15 that would be a awesome show to see :)
I had a pair of the stroker pro 18's.in 1994 they were in a 1982 ford escort . I can't remember the size of the amp it was a still water blues. Man J.P. thank you that brought back some memories
Man.... I miss the old school CV days. I'm still rocking some home audio CV speakers. Hopefully the Down 4 sound difference can save an audio legend like cerwin vega and keep the company moving forward.
Super cool jp ,well to be honest, back when those first came out .there were people who never got the chance to own these high-quality sub woffers .
Reminds me when I had 6 of those in my 85 Cutlass supreme back in the day crusin on Main at.
Bringing back the old school had 2 15s of those
I have a buddy that has 2 12s in his car and a 15 for his home system. Really nice looking subs
Legend has it this beast will return one day.....absolute monster.😈💪👊🔥💥
Man. Brings back memories.
Had 1 OG 18" in a 1990 Ford Festiva hooked to a Mmats class D. Pissed a lot of people off at shows/drags and in neighborhoods.
brings back lots of memories. would love to do a side by side comparison of the old vs new.
May just have to do that =D
The new strokers are far superior to the old school subs
@@ddtstrc9678 Well i would hope so! Or technology has been at a standstill for the last 40 years.
There are different versions of the old school Stroker subs. The original 189sc version from the 1970s and the more powerful car audio version that came in the middle of the 1990s.
I had one in a metro it moved alot of air. With 2 4 inch ports that i think were 22 inches long.
Got a single 18” one back in 2004ish for $50! I put it in one of my EAW superscoop PA subs and it absolutely slammed. Allowed me to only bring one sub to most places. Had bout 1000 watts from a Crest pro audio amp and the cab was very large.
I installed some of the 15” back in the old days. We squeezed 2 of them into a Neon and just about blew the trunk lid off.
Oh man, I remember these. All I could do was dream about them...and the JBL GTi subs too.
I had 4 x 15 " Strokers back in the day in a 98 Suburban competing NSPL with Eastgate Electronics of High Point NC
back in the days we had a guy with six strokes in a green civic and they were very loud in trinidad . this sub used to beat up the mtx 9500, dd and atomic used to get beat up by this sub .and yes slot port was the box is the game changer
Dude!!! I was having flashbacks!!! CV's were the ULTIMATE!!! Who can forget the immortal words of Ice Cube "With the bass kicked in and the Vegas are pumping"!!! "Quick to the point to the point no fakin'. Cooking MC's like a pound of bacon"!!!! Flashbacks, baby, Flashbacks!!!🔉🔊🔉🔊🔉🔊🔊🔊
It’s krazy how much they accomplished in SPL back in thee days with such little excursion, talk about efficiency
Old school gotta love it !
48 now. I saw the original stroker demo vehicle at an Iasca event in Illinois. About 1995 I believe. The regional Midwest showdown. I still have the t-shirt.
The cerwin vega strokers were badass back in the day i wanted them so bad and couldnt afford them
Oh year! Late 90's early 2000's DB Drags...
Back in the day!
Oh man! Remember the Cerwin Vega Stroker from back in the day... I didn't think they still sell them.
Yep these was the big Dawgs back in the day. I've never had the chance to hear them probably because they was so expensive 😕
This speaker got me into car audio! My Uncle had two in an 1997 Astro Van!
Very cool!
The original Concert choice for DJ's!
💘
2Ohm CD5 for sure!! 💯
I like them coming back. Parameters seem quite similar. But the design i a bit messed up as the originals have 20mm top plate and similar voice coil height. So they hit hatd with 100 coil drinivg it. Now they shortened the top plate and extended the length... mms goes up but attack goes down
Best of the best! Got the 18 for $1,000 from another source. Zapco Z3000.1 is going to be the beauty pushing this and setting car alarms off ¼ mile away. Gotta give a shout out to all the Phoenix Gold fans! ZX amps can't be beat. Absolutely NO China Stuff with me.
Wow all I can say is wow that's awesome I wanted a pair of those so bad back in the day that's f***en cool
St the shop I worked in back in the day. We would plug them into the wall outlet to break them in before installing them. Lol I still have my 4 18s lol
Very nice 👍 thay need to bring back the old school hella beat subwoofers
Love cerwin vega I got my ls12 home speakers and sum other speaker
My Fav Subs from my youth
I forgot about them. They were so different from everyone else. It seemed like everyone was rocking Rockford or Orion back then
These were the OG spl subs back in the day
Best sub ever built
This was my dream woofer back in the day @THELIFEOFPRICE
Those were the shit back in the day👍🏻
Hell yeah those babies back in the day use to do some serious hitting.
absolutely luv em
I remember seeing a vw rabbit with 5 of these. Absolutely a piece of history.
I loved these
Who remembers the foamboard installs @ Durant Square in Oakland back in the '90s?
I had some high end snell home audio subs and towers that had real similar build discs but in 10”. The towers had dual 10”s. Anyone want to look them up the are called snell xa 90. They were the shit around Y2K.
Ah good ol memories ❤️
Luv them subs i remembered wen i got 2 18s on 2 punch 150 i new i was the shyt
Stroker's are tight!!!
perfect track for this vid
Strokers are the coolest sub ever made.
Now that's old school
Clarence Carter I been strokin. Perfect for this video
Beautiful
Oh yeah 1998 or 99,sight and sound expo had a van with 12 of these I think may have been 15 of em ,but that thing was a beast, first time I got almost knocked over by bass.steve Miller band at that.lol
O.G. AIR BENDER was it a yellow vw bus 🚌?
Thank God somebody brought back Cerwin-Vega. They will put a little salt in Sundown sub game.
We ran 2 of these 18" in Super Street with RF BD-1500 amps and burrrped 166.3
Best free air/ infinite baffle sub hands down
These things required so much box space. I remember a kid who has 1 18 the box took up the whole back of his Jeep
Love those woofers!! Only thing is the weird placement of the terminals...does anybody know why that is??
It was these and Infinity Kapa on top back in late 90s
Best sub ever
