Alex, remember Haldan lets you use mana as though it was mana of any color to cast spells with fetch counters on them. You could have cast the flusterstorm against Jim with green or red mana
It was super interesting to follow as a Magda player. Couple of things i noted. - Be careful presenting a win into no stax protection. The transmogrant should perhaps have stayed in hand. Personally I would have bolted Magda, end player 3 turn instead of the Drake. As you still present a next turn win or at least tutor, but it doesn’t look nearly as obvious as when keeping the Magda on board. Second thing is how good portal to phyrexia would have been instead of bogarden. Taking care of the whole board setting and making a value engine would have been super strong. Still not sure of the card, but here it would have been awsome. Thanks for sharing the great game!
Jim, as much as I *loved* it when Gilded Drake's ability said "this effect can't be countered except by spells or abilities" so that it wouldn't fizzle, the current wording is: "... This ability still resolves if its target becomes illegal."
Of course! We have a video about exactly this (ua-cam.com/video/9-bL0riayiM/v-deo.html), but if you want the TL;DR it's this: In blue decks you can fetch Mystic Sanctuary, and sometimes you need shuffle effects to get rid of cards you don't want on the top of your library when you're playing Brainstorm, Bolas' Citadel, Future Sight Effects, Sensei's Divining Top, or Sylvan Library. It also enables landfall strategies.
@@TheSpikeFeeders on top of that, there’s the glaring advantage of fetches basically reducing the deck size, it’s a card slot that gets another card directly out of the deck, further increasing the reliability of subsequent draws by removes lands from the remaining cards. Shuffling with brainstorms and other similar effects is just icing on the cake!
Because it's an optional effect: > When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, target player _may_ search their library for a card with the specified name, reveal it, put it into their hand, then shuffle. The target would either go "nah, I'm good" or "sweet, a free shuffle," none of which are particularly good for the ability's controller (barring edge cases where one player is about to go off and the rest of the table scrambles to keep them from it). Not to mention cases where the other player has that same partner pair just in the 99.
112.7a Once activated or triggered, an ability exists on the stack independently of its source. so killing the gilded drink after the ETB goes on the stack would not stop the exchange, correct?
It does resolve but does nothing, as you cannot exchange the permanents. 701.10a A spell or ability may instruct players to exchange something (for example, life totals or control of two permanents) as part of its resolution. When such a spell or ability resolves, if the entire exchange can’t be completed, no part of the exchange occurs.
16:08 in ?? Why are you even still attacking Aaron when his deck is turned off? Are you putting him out of his misery or did you forget there are two other opponents?
Aaron studying his board and solemnly announcing that his cards might be bad killed me
Never thought I'd see a 1 cmc dwarf with mountainwalk getting FORCE OF WILL'D
Alex, remember Haldan lets you use mana as though it was mana of any color to cast spells with fetch counters on them.

So frustrating
He also lost a ton of landdrops
You did what you could Aaron. LB and Galvanic... but who could expect a 3rd drake.

Internet hugs for Aaron.
He was so young
At 18:30 wouldnt it have been smarter to target the deflecting swat with the veto, as that would have removed the need to pay the pact of negation?
Yes it would have!
Good catch! Yes it definitely would have been better.
Aaron slowly calculating how many paper cuts can be given via one card before you have to grab another
Great match, very deserved victory for Alex who kept everybody in line
Aaron's pronunciation of Transmogrant was one for the ages.
Aaron this was the best ep solely because of the gilded drake interaction literally breaking the audio
"No effects."
"No effects."
"Imma glare at you."
Im deceased.
Aaron as an avid Magda player I feel your pain.
This was a fun game to watch, love that Force of Will on the Dwarven Grunt xD
27:10 So cool to see you play Jinx!!! I used to play this card back in 95 in my huge sea creatures deck (my deck was so, so bad) hahaha, love it
Dwarven grunt getting countered by a Force of will as a game ending play, must bring back some memories for some players lol
Surprised Jim didn't cast Shabraz the turn he cracked LED.
I'm so sorry Aaron
I think the cards in my deck might be bad
I feel this deep in my bones
Lmao that force of will at the end
This is the first time that I've seen Wizard cycling in action 😅
Audio is much better 👍🏼
Loved seeing Ashnods Transmogrant!!! I run it in my Jan Jansen deck! It’s great👏🏻👏🏻

In the end we got bitten by a huge dog? Bro what did u feed him ? Lov to see combat damage wins
You guys missed a prime opportunity.
Pako Pako Pako Pako Pako MUSHROOM MUSHROOM..
I'll see myself out
From the thumbnail i thought someone had built a just haldan deck and i was so confused.
Eliot forgot to draw off Jinx!
wasnt using veil of summer to make spells uncounterable (plus u get a card) so deflecting swat resolves?
That probably would have been a better line, yes.
I'm going to keep pointing out the 6 color card back until someone tells me if it's an in joke or an accident?
It did not actually matter, but is there any reason that Alex wasn't playing the lands from the pako pile when he missed land drops?
Because Haldan doesn't let you do that? Unless I'm missing something.
@@alexmcgregor8658 Haldan says play, not cast, so you may play lands
Cool. Thanks for pointing it out.
Do they use proxies?
Hate to see it Aaron
Can someone explain to me why people use fetch lands in a monocolor deck?

Titania, Protector of Argoth loves fetches.
I'm curious why the shuffle from partner with isn't used to force someone else to shuffle.
Because it's an optional effect:
> When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, target player _may_ search their library for a card with the specified name, reveal it, put it into their hand, then shuffle.
The target would either go "nah, I'm good" or "sweet, a free shuffle," none of which are particularly good for the ability's controller (barring edge cases where one player is about to go off and the rest of the table scrambles to keep them from it). Not to mention cases where the other player has that same partner pair just in the 99.
Aaron just needs to take personal responsibility for his choice to be that unlucky.
Thumbs up if you think Jim deserved to get got like he got got.
What's the pretzel stack?
If you mean pretzel snack, likely Combos
@@alexmcgregor8658 no. It said pretzel stack for the Magda intro
Then I misspelled Snack, meaning Combos
@@alexmcgregor8658 I see. In addition, your profile image looked eerily like the guy who played Pako
Any responses before this comment resolves?
Poor Aaron
i love the chemistry in this table hope to see more combos though

Alex can drop lands with haldan too
poor magda player. the 3rd drake made me lol
Jim could have play Shabraz with Lion's mana
It seems there aren't very many viable dwarves...
Alex can u play with your own cards? Omg what is this game lol.
He can't keep getting away with this
@@TheSpikeFeeders every game with this ..can u guys play decks without blue
You can't target your own permanents with cyc rift
Guys play with your own cards ,leave me commander alone lol, dawn that drake, so good
Am I crazy or could magda have won if he didn't cast jeskas will?
