Dear Sherrill, I think a rug hook could be used to help thread casings. It could catch on the safety pin and then threaded using the handle to gather and pull. This backpack idea is ideal for little ones who must tote workbooks, folders, and papers between school and home. Backpacks are big, bulky, expensive with too many zips snd pockets for small kids. I love your channel too! 🥰
I made 2 of these for my boyfriend and I. Love them for our weekend getaways. Don't have to back big bulky bags or a suitcase. Thank you for the easy projects. We love them and we match 😂
YAY! All the Mannys are back 😃 He and Scotty did alot of traveling there for awhile! I love these backpacks. My son and I wanted a unique way for valentines for the church ladies we've missed seeing and this is perfect! I've been with you. I've just been quite and quilting. I would never leave the best and my favorite sewing lady! Love to Maria and baby 👶 💕
I am now making my backpacks with your strap design. I am making backpacks for my local Christmas Angel Tree. I’m having a lot of fun making them and Santa Sacks. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video, I am getting back into sewing. I had a house fire a few years ago so I finally have my sewing room back. I love your channel and your videos are great and so helpful. I appreciate it and am currently making this bag. Thank you!
F.I.N.A.L.L.Y!!! In the 3 yrs I've been struggling to learn to sew....and I mean struggling I have not been able to successfully figure out how to cut fabric right in an efficient way. How hard can it be....something wrong with me? Oh the frustration (I am a bit of a slow learner but I do learn things) I've watched many many vids on cutting but it's like you added the missing pieces that made me get it. No one at least that I've seen out all I've watched did that zero line. And I would turn the fabric. Anyway this is awesome, perfect and I saved. Love all your colorful pretties! The 1st thing I ever made was a simple place mat that you demo'ed that I use under my sewing machine so it doesn't jar. Your easy simple written out instructions is what got me hooked on your teaching method for hard to learn slow pokes like me haha. Tfs this!
Great instructional video. When you explain how to do things..... I never feel like I can't accomplish it. Your patience in instructing and constructing is commendable! Thank you. I look forward to your next tutorial. 😘😘❤️️ Luv from Oz
Hi Sherrill, I love your channel! I found it whilst looking on beginner ideas on what to do with quilting panel fabric. I have been wanting to make a backpack for ages and now you have shown me how to sew one. I have been binge watching your channel over the past weekend! You bring up such a wonderful point about not letting our weaknesses or disabilities hamper what we want to accomplish or to try something new! Thank you so very much! Maz from South Australia :)
This is my tip when you want to stop stitching at some point. I put 2 red-headed pins together where I want to stop. Even if you don’t have multi-colored pins, put 2 together as a reminder to stop. Too often I got into my sewing and went past the stopping point. This has helped me immensely.
I really enjoy your tutorials. I’m a visual crafter and you sure make learning your projects so much easier. Thank you so much for sharing your videos. I have 4 grandsons and I’m thinking of make each of them this backpack for Christmas 2021 🎅🏼🤶🏼🎄
Hi Sherrill, excellent video as always. I love watching you and your lovely way you teach. I get my confidence from you. And you are not handicapped, you are full of talent!
This is a lovely, clear, concise tutorial and gives me so much inspiration to follow along and make my own! I also love the way you overcome the use of your right hand and enjoy what you do so much, regardless of minor difficulties. I have weakening hands too and a loss of confidence because of them, but you are warm and encouraging and your gentle explanations of every step so helpfully demonstrate everything that it is soothing just to listen to you. Thank you so much!
Awww. I know how you feel. Don't give up! I often have to stop and take breaks and can't work at the speed I wish but I love so sewing so much. Thank you so much for watching. 😀❤
great project! and i think you do a wonderful job with your explanations and demonstrations and it's actually nice seeing someone with a physical disability teaching how to work with their limitations and still be able to do the things they love and inspiring others to do the same. also, your hubby is a riot, you two are so cute :D
Thank you. This is what I have been looking to make for my great grandson. He loves my backpack. I will need to scale down the size for him since he is only going on 2. Your directions are always so clear to follow. Thank you for all your help and giving me the courage to try new projects.
Hey, i just wanted to tell you that I didn't start sewing seriously until I also became handicapped. So, I can't stand long, so you're right being handicapped makes thing harder but not impossible.
Love your tutorials. I made the reusable tote bag and I love it. For the back pack can you recommend the size measurements for children under 10. Thank you.
@@TheSewingRoomChannel Thank you!.. I made one usable tote bag and finishing another. Your tutorials are so easy to follow, it gives me confidence to sew! I can not wait to make the backpack for my great niece and nephews!!
😊 thank you. I get them done by a professional manicurists. She applies gel polish over the nails, and uses a very small brush to pain the tips. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
Hi I love to sew too, recently was diagnosed with arthritis in the palm of my right hand. My middle finger is swollen and I can’t close my hand. Yet I can’t stop sewing, when I sew all day my wrist, elbow and shoulder pain.
Yes, I have seen people do that. You just press the fabric as it comes out of the tool. Make sure it's a double fold bias, not just a single. That way ur raw edges are folded inside. :) If you struggle with this you can always buy a package of double fold bias tape and sew closed or some cording that is sturdy yet narrow enough to pass through your casing! :)
Your instructions were very clear. It sounded like you were very concern about if people would be able to put the straps in. If people follow your instructions there would no be a problem. To insert the second strap was not clear because you stop explaining the process and you got the finished bag you used for a sample demonstration. I think the proses of the second strap is very important.
Hi Linda. I appreciate your comment. I am always striving to make my tutorial instructions as clear as possible. All constructive comments are greatly appreciated. Stay safe. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.
I still use my old metal machine from the 70's with the thread standing vertically. Recently I bought a new machine and the thread lays horizontally. Every thread I buy has a notch which seems to frequently catch the thread as it flows off. I try to file down the rough spot. This was never an issue with the machine that holds the thread vertically. Does this drive anyone else crazy?
Hi Phxgidget. Your sewing machine should have a round disk that you insert next to the end of the spool. This disk prevents the thread from catching on the spool. Stay safe. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.
@@TheSewingRoomChannel Thanks for answering, but I have the round disk up against the thread & still catches on a sharp notch of the spool. Drives me crazy until I file down the edge.
Hi Katherine. For a 4 to 7 year old you might want to take 6" off of the length and 3" off the width. Then stitch it together as demonstrated in the video. This measurements used in the video will probably be okay for 8 years and up. Adjust the length of the straps by placing a safety pin to hold the strap ends together. Have them try it on and adjust the length before stitching the ends together. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
