Blimey, that was a very interesting museum. Never been to Hartlepool, never ever considered going there, but you have opened my eyes, Tim. I could certainly see being able to include that museum in a future trip up the east coast. Too bad those one pound fares are done now, but you have certainly made good use of them. Now it is time for the railways to start recouping their losses. Cheers, Ian
Yes, I've certainly had some value from Northern Rail over this past month. I was always puzzled by the bad press that they so often received - I've always found their services from Carlisle to be excellent. Best wishes to you.
Another very enjoyable video Tim. I have passed through Hartlepool quite a lot of late and must alight and have a look around sometime, never done so for a while. Cheers, Jeff.
What a wonderful travelogue yet again Tim, I’m so glad I finally got to finish watching this. I’m not surprised in the least at your viewing figures as your content and presentation is second to none. I too love the sea and am fascinated by and in awe of the ships and sailors who brave the oceans and the many who’s labour built the amazing vessels of the past, without computer aided design and electricity etc. I love to visit the North East and find the people genuine and warm hearted, there are scattered beaches and little harbours, castles and lighthouses, hills and wonderful transport history (such as the Stockton and Darlington) and as you’ve demonstrated, a huge maritime heritage. I hope you can muster a few more of these insightful trips around the North, I think there are a lot of us waiting for each new offering! All the best, till the next time Darren 👍
Regrettably, the £1 fares are finished and I don't suppose there'll be too many similar offers in the near future. I have two trips to Glasgow in the next week or so to Scottish Opera who are finally beginning to perform again - unfortunately, the late night trains no longer run to get me home so overnight accommodation in Glasgow is the order of the day (or night!) making these occasions both more inconvenient and much more expensive - a lot of question marks hang over the future. However - I'll still be filming whenever I can and hope to continue posting throughout the winter, weather, health, transport, finances permitting. As you say - till the next time!
Two, in fact - the Royal Navy's national museum and next to it the Museum of Hartlepool which I didn't have time to visit. Indeed, I only saw part of the RN museum and must go back again to explore the rest of it. Sometimes great things are to be found in seemingly unlikely places!
I reckon many years I did travel across the Humber on the ferry Wingfield Castle. I definitely went aboard when I visited the Hartlepool Museum all those years ago. Pity to see it now looking in such a poor state.
@@keithf_ Yes - very disappointing. My brief visit was far too short to take in all that the museum had to offer, and of course I didn't even get into the adjacent Museum of Hartlepool. I'd need to do an overnight stay in Hartlepool - fortunately, there's a cheap chain hotel nearby so perhaps during the coming summer I'll manage a much more comprehensive visit.
Tim Geaney We based ourselves in Durham for a few nights. We took in the naval museum in Hartlepool, the Beamish open-air museum and further afield, the Roman fortification at Vindolanda. All were great places. Nice memories.
Nice to see the two Grand Central coradia 180s. Also the navy museum. A shame that the paddle steamer looks so unkempt. I'd never thought of Hartlepool as a destination.
My stay was too brief to see more than a fraction of the RN Museum - and couldn't even think about the adjacent Museum of Hartlepool - so may have to go back and have an overnight there to take more in.
Great video and that was lucky getting that cheap ticket. i got a few too in the recent sale. Four £3 day-trips planned for Hartlepool, Seaham, Hexham and Prudhoe over the next few weeks😀 The Royal Navy Museum looks imteresting although for some reason, on t'internet there are quite a lot of negative reviews. Pity the ferry isn't open now 😥.. reminds me of the old Tyne ferries from the 60s. Regards from Whitldey Bay
The R.N. Museum is interesting - fascinating for those who love history - and I'm at a loss to understand the negative reviews. Thanks for your comment. Enjoy your days out!
Return fare Dumfries - Carlisle £4.25, Museum admission £8, fare from Carlisle to Hartlepool via Newcastle - £1 each way. Wouldn't get much of a night out for that!
@@schoolshorts I've had 2 trips out with the £1 offers - one to Skipton, the other to Leeds (both starting from Langwathby). Think I might take advantage of the £10 newspaper offer in November to go to Hartlepool (never been before) if I can get the tokens from the papers.

I must go back myself. The couple of hours available on my day ticket weren't nearly long enough. Best wishes.

Very informative i did'nt know there was a museum in Hartlepool.

I visited this museum several years ago. Interesting. Definitely worth a visit

Another great video. Would have prefered to see the HST though. I believe the ex Great Northerns HST are currently in Germany :0
It was the first time I've actually seen a Grand Central train - or class 180 - so, for me, it was something different and welcome.
Good work again Tim, some good history.👍
Thanks David - a great £1 day out!
Bet it all came to more than a £1 though?
