This is a late comment, but I love this video! I’m going to be a first year economics major, and everyone in my Highschool who took economics was all like “ugh I hate Econ so much” and whenever people asked what I was gonna major in, I told them Econ and they were like “yikesss that sucks” and I loved how you said no Econ shaming 😂 Econ was super fun when I took it in Highschool! I wish there were more Econ classes offered at my Highschool but there was only 1 and even though parts were rather difficult, it all ended up being mostly understandable and pretty fun too.
Thank you for this comment!! I took one Econ class in HS also so don't worry about not taking more classes!! And Econ is DIFFICULT but if you think it's fun it is 100p right for you!
I love economics, but I somewhat dislike math. I aced ALL of my economic courses growing up from high school to a university. It’s fascinating. My favorite math is algebra, and geometry statistics was fun, but I just didn’t have time to focus on that part of math.
Thanks for the video :) I feel like I found what I want to study. I’ve been considering econ major and cs minor as well, and I couldn’t find anything about econ major, but CS is very YT popular - loads of videos about it
Hi! I am starting my college applications and I want to major in business, but I see that many schools have econ as a major. Do you think majoring in Econ will help prepare myself to make my own non-profit? If you don't know, do you know someone I could reach out?
I’m majoring in political science and minor in economics, should I do it that way or switch it maybe majoring in economics instead .I just want a job after college
Hi Mari, it depends what you want to do after college! Those are both excellent majors that will get you a job, so my advice is to just chose the one you like better :)
Now that u mention it, I watch lot of college UA-cam and not many people are economics majors mostly law or art or cs (or they drop out lol) so is it like taboo to aspire to be a finance student or not cool? Unlike in my country (South Africa) if u aren’t smart enough for science maybe hated it, commerce/finance is what u study. I was an economics & statistics major but wasn’t interested in financial side of economics and wanted the more social sciences side so changing to development economics. Worried about my wealth prospects so looking up videos like this but there aren’t many from econ majors (maybe they think it’s not cool) any economics based video is very old here on YT so thanks for ur upload!
At Columbia it is ~very~ cool and a ton of people study economics! The only way to study "finance" is to be in the engineering school which has different requirements. I love the idea of studying developmental economics and it is a very impressive/ interesting/ cool thing to study!! Also thank you!
I have no previous knowledge in economics but I’m really interested in it! I live in the UK and I haven’t done economics A level but I wanna do an economics degree. How could I show interest in economics without actually having studied it?
Excellent question! I would say mostly keep up to date with the news by reading local + international newspapers, different economics focused magazines like The Economist, and joining clubs at your school/ uni that are focused around economics or are related in certain fields. So reading + getting involved is a great way to show interest!
2 people I would highly recommend you look up are Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell. Read Basic economics by Thomas Sowell. That is a great foundational book. No charts or graphs or equations. Just plane english and a very enlightening.
Im gonna be a senior next year and I want to major in Economics. Im deciding if I should take AP Statistics or AP Calculus AB. Which one should I take? Btw I am taking 3 other AP classes senior year ( Macroeconomics, Psychology, Environmental Science)
I took AP Calculus and found it SUPER helpful for Economics & other classes. So I would suggest that because it will help you with Stats in college also
we honestly aren't sure, neither of us know anyone who did that program or applied to it. sorry we can't answer that :( def reach out to someone at Barnard if you want specifics on how that program works!
Thank you so much for this video! I am currently pursuing a B.S in Econ with a minor in Stats and a concentration in Data Analytics. What do you think my job prospects are?
HI! I think that's an amazing major, minor, and concentration and you'll have so many options for jobs + internships. Data analytics is really important for any field and a combo of that + Econ + stats means you can go into any math/finance background and succeed. All if this is just what I think tho but I promise you will have tons of job options!!
Do economics and psychology majors at Barnard overlap in terms of classes and credits? I'm interested in doing something in both subjects and want to know what kinds of options are offered
good question! lots of majors do overlap at Barnard; I'm not sure about the specifics for Econ and psych but id def google the course directory and you can get an idea for it :)
Hello everyone, I am about to start my university in the upcoming September and right now I am choosing between a laptop or a ipad, ipad being unfamiliar but can be handy and laptop being extremely familiar with. I am not entirely sure what to expect in my economics courses regarding to its technical needs(words, excel, graphing, etc), so I can't decide which one would be more useful.
Hello! I think laptop 100%. iPads are very convenient but laptops have more storage, functions, & power and are very important/ useful for all your classes :)
@@mjdandnyc3193 please, a research 😅, and i be waiting for a reply. Also, is a economics major a good pathway for Data Science, because Economics,it involves a lot of maths and stats which is the core of data science. Except for the coding part, will economics degree be a benefit?
I don't believe people of all nations taxes run the countries economies, it's creativity labor and production, citizens businesses that make and run everything. That's why it's legitimate and appropriate for governments to print X amount of money for all citizens for their business enterprise, especially after working 8 or 10 or 15 years, including the amount of education one has. I believe taxes are only meant for specific items, such as pensions, social security, food stamps, welfare, and purchase of the finished product for government use.

I must say i have a love hate reln with maths. Please help me out! I really wanna know how does this subject work like is it hard? Can a biology major do it?
I took an Econ class in high school and did poorly and then LOVED economics in college! So I would say give it a shot and if it is interesting/exciting then go for it! Biology is also a very tough subject and obviously there is no overlap but if your mind feels good doing touch science it should feel good doing economics!
Hi!! The highest math you need is Calc 1 I believe, and then there is a stats based calc class that you have to take (or actually maybe u only need the normal stats class but I took the calc based). So not very much math!!
