SPEAKER BLOWOUTS! - ROTTEN PARTY SPEAKERS *18 MONTHS OUTSIDE*

  • One year, Six months sitting out in the Northern Canadian whether, I go recover the Audiosphere Research Monitor 400's from the place they were left to rot after the last party they were used, The cabinets were falling apart during this party so I never bothered bringing them back inside and instead built another set of beater speakers to use outdoors
    ____
    Music Link: / blacklager-2
    Audio amplification: Peavey CS-800 for the blowouts, And my subwoofers as I tested the song were powered by a Carvin DCM2000

    That set of midrange drivers reminds me of about fifteen Peavey PR-12’s here at home in WV at a local carnival that comes to town. The speakers have seen so much sun light that the dye in the paper is completely gone.

      I bought some vintage subs with heavy outdoor use for shits and giggles to repair. the cones are white but online they are black brand new. is it just sun bleaching or did someone swap woofers on them at some point?

    • @GarretClaridgeMeerkat
      @GarretClaridgeMeerkat  6 років тому +11

      The sun really fucks with speaker cone paper, A common site anyplace a speaker is in direct sun, thats why outdoor systems often use plastic style cones or are treated in some way (you could paint your cones with watered down pen ink) Like as speakerfreak said carnival rides are bad for having white coned speakers... It sure did not take long to fade the mids on the ones in this video
      The ABS plastic PA speakers often seen on my desk are actually waterproof and the paper cones repel water with whatever they put on them -yes ive left them in the rain a few times, still look new, Some of my RCF 18 inch drivers look like they have a damn coating of tar on the cone ! I trust them to survive a washing with the garden hose as ive done before when the party just got too dirty to wipe them with a paper towel :P

    • @Rendraco79
      @Rendraco79 6 років тому

      you can dye the cones with "leather ink". first clean gently the cones with a brush, then with a medium size make up brush, apply a generous pure coat, let it dry and repeat 3 or more times.

    Usually i don't like speakers blow out vids, this is not the exception about it. that's because I am a "repair, fix and improve" guy, always looking for a new project, a pair of good old speakers that for others are useless, may be a jewel in my hands, i like to give them love and apreciate it's sound caracteristics and posibilities... meanwhile it worth it.
    some chinese speakers are well builted, not the best, but the most of the time you can't see a couple of b&w or similar around the garbage or in a cheap flea market for two dollars...
    anyway, thanks for sharing, greetings from Colombia

  • @mommiems

    The tweeter magnets and diaphragms appear to look like the common old school Japanese Foster brand stuff...you'll see the same magnet/diaphragm assembly attached to a 5" X 7" aluminum horn in products like Sansui, or other 70'S "Kubuki" speakers, using more of a conical phase plug. The diaphragms are phenolic. Phenolic diaphragms are used in older Klipsch midhorn/tweeter drivers. My ears tend to prefer the sound over 'phragms made of aluminum or titanium.
    Nothing like the sound of a cone driver getting frapped!

      This brand was sold by The Brick, Lots of furniture stores imported this cheap stuff and you would need to go to an actual stereo store to find the real version or brands that were legit, VIVID was one of the brands this company did as well, These cheap speakers are all over the place and they have gotten better at making them look modern although the parts are still as bad, Now the people that import this stuff are often just looking to do a drive by sale or possibly from a rent-to-own place as they will always have a nice selection of shit that can burn your house down for 5x the price :D
