@@AyumuMinegishi I think that was almost the same price as when Bari-Uma ramen was having a 1 for 1 beer promotion for around SGD $11. Forgot whether it was Kirin or Sapporo.
I realised that for the sake of comparison, we can use the price of a highball. A highball is normally at least SGD$12 (highball index? 😅).
You guys should try the bus rides in the 80's. No AC, bus conductors. But the rough part was the driving. Ever tried jumping off the bus when it's still slightly moving? Or drivers shouting for all to move backwards. Drivers flooring the pedal when you still on the steps getting up. They didn't care! 😆
eh went to secondary school in those times. truly nostalgic. so freaking hot that i really had to sit next to the window which was always stuck.
the back seats were alll reallly hot from the engine.
but 45 cents flat fee!!! although always had to make sure got enough 5 cent coin.
all this with a 10kg school bag.
@@weiyongl the window stuck bit got me LOL big time. Flash backs of sudden rain pouring and sway sway sat at the stuck window seat.... Embarrassing to no end. Dunno what to do after struggling for 45 seconds. Whole bus watching, and at that age so conscious : girls must be laughing at this idiot.

In Singapore, kids call all fully grown adults as uncles and auntie. Back then when I was still 18 years old, my nephew, who was 5 years old, also call me uncle. Kids just don't know how to recognize your age, that's why they call all grown ups uncles and aunties.
Erm nephew is supposed to address you as uncle leh, so you expects him to address you as gor gor

Regarding scam calls, dont pick up if you see the "+" prefix.
Edit: the "+" prefix in Singapore represents overseas calls (even if you see +65 on caller ID)
There can be legit calls too. If they use internet voice call you can see +65 also 😣

Ghib…if you see the escalator being fixed, it’s actually good. Means there is maintenance. I also love how the govt encourages people to exercise and eat healthily. I live in Australia and they don’t do that here. The best part about Australia is that the same construction site can be there for many years because I will see 1 or 2 workers working and 6 or 7 construction workers just standing around looking at them

I believe we paid too much on Maintenance and the company had to shown that they are working. Some work take about a month. That is why work is done unnecessary. Do something Gov. don't over pay. Unproductive.

The cold drinks cost more because of more work or more ice. But most kopi Peng or teh Peng in those kopitiam are made thicker, stronger flavour or sweeter or with more milk. So that when they put it with ice, the taste will not be wash out when the ice melts. That's one of the main reason.

To add on if I'm not wrong at coffee shops the ice drinks are usually made from the hot drinks (like kopi ping, you can feel the warm kopi below where there is no ice :') )
@@Elrossss yes. Some made hot but thicker and then put ice. Some will make one big jug and then put in fridge.

back in the 70's the coffee stall hawker use the milk can to dapao, only when the populations becomes like 3m/4m only then we start to get kopi dapao in plstic bag bcos there is no way we can get so many empty cans n also partly due to cost concern

Sweetened green tea is definitely a thing in other parts Asia as well. Growing up in Hong Kong, I remember seeing the same one (Pokka) in the local supermarkets and I remember my mum telling me not to buy them 😅

Drink in a bag is one of the best things ever. Bag full of ice, pour in your beverage of choice. Your cold drink from the fridge doesn't come close.
This was a lot of fun & the restaurant looks so good! As for the Merlion, the original one (I saw in 1982) located in a different place was disappointing tbh.
Some are common in other Asian countries such as sweet green tea, liquid in plastic bags. I always fought with American colleagues over the temperature of aircon.
This is so fun to watch knowing what Japanese people staying in Singapore feels. ^-^
I agree with the green tea commentary. I think hot green tea should never be sweet! But cold ones are good when sweet haha
Interesting session. Rimi-san is right about the dollar bill is sticky or wet, I usually have to use wet tissue to clean before keeping it. For bottled green tea, there are non-sugar version from Pokka also.

🤣🤣🤣 vice versa, i struggled when I visited Japan and found out the bottled green tea in conbini there was not sweet at all. Then I had to switch my options to Kirin's Lemon Tea for as long I'm there!! Haha.

Aiyo, i'm not aware of the no wet hair in jp. I think I went around with wet hair before, after shower i went out of hotel to nearby buy food and donki to buy snacks with wet hair during summer. Hair dries very fast ma , more efficient than using hair dryer

I would leave the house with wet hair because its so hot outside so wet hair cools me down abit! And when someone with wet hair sits in front of you in the bus and you can smell the shampoo they used!

Japanese usually set ac temp to 25~27C, which is way too hot for locals. Indians, Myanmar, Pinoys usually can tolerate higher temperatures and indians tend to switch off the air vents for ac, which is way too stuffy.

You will be surprised the sweet green tea is used as a mixer with martell or chivas in clubs. Sweet green tea or Coke, almost always either choice.

The escalators are not broken. They are on energy saving mode. There are motion sensors to detect if someone is about to ride on one and then they start moving.
Not the power saving mode. He meant those fully stopped escalators that you got to walk up/down or those with the yellow maintenance sign covering the entrance. I have seen it quite often everywhere.

by rules n rregulation is a must to carry out routine maintenance for public escalator/lifts
You can ask for 1/2 hot (bun sau in mandarin) from hawkers if you buy coffee/tea .
Choping seats with tissue is a unique phenomenon but not something I would advocate. Personally, I don't care if someone leaves a tissue or key or whatever, I will just sit there if I'm carrying my food already. Especially so if I have my child with me.
If they don't want to sit with me, that's their problem, not my problem. It takes alot of guts and thick skin not to be bothered by stares or unfriendly words. So long as you can withstand those, please go ahead and sit at any empty seat

The pokka green tea is Jasmine tea... so it is not even Japanese type green tea.
In any case, all types of chinese and Japanese teas were not supposed to be sweetened.
hahaha escalators require maintenance because too many people ride it daily, and according to engineers, most escalators are not build for people to walk up and down when the escalators are operating so the parts get worn out faster.
for the drinks in plastic bag, this is usually sold my cheaper stalls, like even in indo you get this like at a stall on the street.
Very nice clip to watch. There is many things foreign would have difficulties understanding if not native born. There are a lot things fast disappearing as well. If you think using plastic bags is difficult to understand ... well its more common in the past but coffee can pack with the condense milk can as well. Why tea is sweet? Well in the past Singapore don't really have green tea and commonly tea have condense milk added. As for the word 'can'... the most used magic word in singapore and malaysia hahaha. It can use to represent almost anything and any situation but it's actually came from the chinese word which changed to english word over the years, I am also guilty of over using it. The main thing with why cold drinks cost more is due to electrical charge as they will need to use a freezer to get ice and thus that charge to customer. And sometimes it will cost more if asked for no or less ice... mainly fruit and sugar cane drink is due to quantity of the drink itself. There are at many things I can't recall now but still great to watch.

McDonalds for Chinese New Year because almost all hawkers are closed, especially on the first day of CNY. The only food places open are fast food restaurants and non-Chinese stand-alone food places like Indian "cafes" or Malay foodstalls. Partly to celebrate CNY, partly to rest and gather with family, and partly also cos there will not be meat available for sale from their distributors anyway, so might as well close shop for the CNY.
Try the restaurants / coffee houses in hotels, opening 24hrs/365 days

totally laughed out loud at the wet hair folks. maybe they think the wetness can keep them cool for a bit longer since it's damn hot outside. also got ignored many times by buses zooming past me despite sticking my arm out fully to flag early on. and some drivers really brake very abruptly multiple times in a short distance, i never understood how they got that habit. green tea here has had exact same comments from japanese expats even twenty years ago 😹
i must correct : i don't laugh at the wet hair in public. just the observation in the video got me laughing 😂 cause it really is so common here we hardly think much bout it until we realise oh they don't do this in countries like japan

Ice kopi is more expensive is for purpose of recovering the relevant costs incurred to produce the ice including the cost of the fridge and utility, mainly. But don't know how they came up with SGD 0.30 per item - they must have been supported by very good management accountants 😅

When I was in Sg some years ago, point cards were used instead of tissue. Most ppl carry tissue with them because the public toilets might not have any. Plus, regarding バス命がけ、日本はラッシュ電車命がけ。知人がラッシュ電車に乗ったときに鉄柱と人の間に挟まれて、腕を骨折させたことがある

Hahhaha the point on why we use auntie, uncle, bro, sis rather than excuse me is because we more often than not, use excuse me when we are slightly less happy with a stranger. Example: in a crowded bus and there's abit of space to move in and somebody is reluctant to move in, we would say "hello excuse me can move in abit" ちょっと上から目線という時もつかわれてるんですけどねw so yeah auntie, uncle bro, sis is abit more endearing.

I lived here my whole life and I don't think the bus has failed to stop for me unless it's totally full 😂
It's usually when you're not paying attention and the bus just came into the stop. And they don't stop and check and just drive off
@@LurpakSpreadableButter Its usually the commuter is too engrossed with the handphone. Don't blame the driver. Some drivers even honk to attract their attention before reaching the bus stop.
Have had bus drivers slowing down to see if I'm boarding in certain instances. I only had a neighborhood bus not stopping coz it was full of people till on the steps.

Many things are also conveniently located near our home so drying your hair doesn’t make sense when u are just heading out briefly.. then maybe you just got so used to wet hair that you think it was dry enough when it still drips 😆
I’m Singaporean, moving to Japan next year. Most of the things mentioned here are just a few of the many things I dislike about Singapore. (Yes these are still avoidable or tolerable. The main reason I'm leaving SG for good is due to family issues and me not being able to afford resale or rent here.)
1. Weather (no need to elaborate, I’m sure y’all know).
2. The wasabi here is mostly fake that’s why it’s mild.
3. I’m okay with the chope culture. My problem is that some people don’t respect it.
4. I absolutely dislike the convenience stores in Singapore. Food quality is not great given the price. Really cannot compare to Japan. I can get a decent meal at every konbini (and that’s considering I have dietary restrictions) and pay peacefully while not dealing with rude folks.
5. Pouring hot drinks into plastic bag was something I disliked as a kid. It’s difficult to hold and there’s no cover to prevent spills. No to mention the possible health hazard.
6. Rude hawker staff and dirty coffee shops. Plus restaurants messing up orders and not giving a shit.
7. Drinks are too caffeinated, sweet and expensive here, so I have no choice to carry heavy water bottles everywhere. In Japan I get so many more options for non-dairy, non-caffeinated and unsweetened drinks.
8. Many bus drivers don’t seem to care about the safety of passengers but it seems to have improved only in the recent couple of years. Years ago in Sec 1, I fell once in bus 307 but luckily I wasn’t hurt. The bus driver and other passengers (except this one nice lady who held my hand for a while) didn’t give a shit.
9. I also think that the aircon is too cold here. Always have to bring a jacket and it’s inconvenient. Being exposed to sudden temperature changes is not great for health too.
There are a couple of things they mentioned that I do like, such as wearing what you want and dancing Zumba in public. But I’m glad to see that they seem to like it here. I guess each country has different things to offer to different people and living in SG is just not suitable for me. It's always refreshing to hear other's perspectives :) Great job, Ghib-san!
Oh they should pay a visit to Lau Pasat at lunch time and be surprised that people save seats by putting just their name cards or staff pass.

I think we do get scam calls in Japan but it's usually not the international number and I feel it's less in Japan than here.
I'm surprised that its a weird thing to see people with damp hair. For Singaporeans it's like a badge of honour that we shower in the morning.

In japan I feel it’s somewhat like bad manners, not only do you dry it you also somehow style it, even if it’s just simple.
Not only that seldom you see women go out even without the slightest make up. Sg women really ‘have the guts’ to walk out of their house like that… maybe that’s why living in Japan can be a little tired at times but I have also gotten used to it - a Singaporean with 16 years in tokyo.

Aren't お姉さん (sis) and お兄さん (bro) quite commonly used to address unrelated strangers in Japan too?
I think it's similar but those words are typically for people who look young.
You don’t call お兄さん お姉さん in front of their face when you talk to them in Tokyo, but we do it in Osaka. It means that Japanese living in Eastern parts would like to take a certain distance between strangers(unfriendly to strangers) and Japanese in the Western part are the opposite. (Friendly to strangers).
Singaporeans go out with wet hair because we CAN, we do not feel cold with wet hair. When I was at Japan, I always wonder how come their green tea is always not sweet. It's just the difference in culture and way of living.
Semi wet is ok. Too wet is quite gross tbh.
@@thewalk7816 My husband has colleagues in USA who come straight to work from surfing and gym with wet hair too. You'll definitely see wet hair in offices in many parts of the world.
For non Chinese it's weird but, Calling strangers uncle auntie sister brother etc is not uniquely Singaporean. It's Chinese culture and in all Chinese society's people address strangers in that way. Just that in Singapore it's done in English.
Not Chinese culture. Malay also call strangers abang, kak and Indians also call people bro, sis, auntie and uncle. Indeed not uniquely Singaporean though, there are many non-chinese populated Asian countries that do that as well such as Philippines, India, Korea (ajusshi, ajumma), etc.

Unless you fail to hail the bus or don’t look like you are hailing the bus, no reason why the driver wouldn’t stop for you.
As for cold drinks costing more, i guess water is expensive here so you get charged for ice.
Some cheapskate malls turn off one escalator to save money. You’ll notice that at the escalators outside far east plaza a lot.

I take the bus everyday. It has only happened at ulu places like tekong. Never happened to me outside that. Thats my experience.
