wow, it's been a year since your PR? Congratulations!! You definitely have become a lot more Singaporean since I started watching your videos (skits) in 2020. Thank you for continue to show the world the beauty and hidden sides of Singapore :) and congrats on 300k subs!!
I think it’s wise to keep your original citizenship so as to remember your roots. I am a Singaporean who has been living overseas for the past 28 years (first 14 in Paris and since then in US). I have refrained from applying any citizenship even though I am married to an American. And even though I feel like a ‘btweener’ ( that is neither a Singaporean nor a French nor an American), I still have memories/ nostalgia about my childhood experiences in Singapore. Those memories are enough for me to remain Singaporean.
I can’t speak for others but I totally appreciate your channel and what you’ve done. You’ve put Singapore on the map with more Japanese and they’re learning a lot more about Singapore. Thank you!
Don't give up your Japanese citizenship for Singapore. It's best to keep one spouse PR and the other Singaporean, a lot of people do that. Benefits wise is around the same, not much difference, so there's no point in giving up for pink ic. And you still maintain your flexibility to go back to Japan with your spouse in future if you decide.
Eventually one has to make a decision because death is a certainty. When you are young without children, you are mobile and can migrate anywhere but eventually your roots will sink with expanded family, widened social circle and increased familiarity with the environment. The time will come when medical healthcare, aged care facilities are becoming important. Then being a citizen in the country of your residence, not just Singapore becomes crucial. Question is when should you apply to be a citizen - after retirement or when you are still economically important to Singapore? 😂
Don't forget, if you do have kids if they are Singaporean only they have a NS commitment. If they're born dual Japanese/Singaporean, they are legally allowed to keep both citizenships until they're 21, and have an option not to serve by permanently leaving Singapore. If they are Singaporean only it makes it very hard to dodge military service.
I agree. The CPF has been fine tuned to cater for one’s whole life journey, from eduction, buying a house , retirement, tax relieve for contributing to own and love one’s account and retirement annuity insurance.
Obtaining citizenship is a serious thought process. You shouldn't apply for citizenship just because others want you to. You should do it because you genuinely want it. I can definitely see some local habits within you through the way you talk. Pretty cool🙂Questions about retirement are irrelevant. We can't even guarantee what happens to us the next day, let alone predict the uncertainties of the future. Thanks for sharing your cool videos.

Congrats Ghib! Jia you加油⛽ keep it going and hopefully forevermore, Singapore Japan is good. Stay on and live happily happiness longevity. God bless you and your family ❤
PR can still continue to reside in Singapore without a valid Re-entry Pass (REP) as long as one doesn't leave the country. I guess that's why it is considered "Permanent" . Correct me if I am wrong.
Wow it's already been a year! Congratulations on the achievement unlocked lol! We don't know what's going to happen in a few years keeping options open would be helpful.
"Do you ever want to be a Singaporean?" - this is a kaypoh question lol. But tks for sharing your views. Really very refreshing to hear alternative views from an objective person. Please continue to explore and share all the hidden sights of SG. 🙂
Congratulations on obtaining your Singapore PR status! Your journey is truly inspiring. I have a request that I believe would not only benefit me but also your diverse audience. Could you consider creating a detailed video on how to acquire PR in Japan? It would be incredibly helpful if you could include insights on the application process, necessary documentation, and any specific criteria that applicants should be aware of. Additionally, sharing your personal experiences and advice on choosing the right area or town to settle in Japan would be invaluable. Furthermore, it would be interesting to hear about your interactions with the local community - how receptive they are to non-locals, and any challenges you faced in assimilating with the Japanese culture and lifestyle. Such a video would be a great resource for many aspiring to make Japan their home. Thank you!
Live and work for more than 10 years in Japan consecutively. Then there is a mountain of paperwork, requiring a native Japanese guarantor is also another main requirement. If you get approved after 1 year of document screening by the immigration authorities, you will then be subject to global income tax, capital gains tax, gift tax and inheritance tax on worldwide assets and income sources. REP must be renewed every 5 years and PR foreign residence card renewed every 7 years. Anyway, you should be asking a foreigner these questions, not a Japanese person. A Japanese native has no need to bother with "PR" in their own country or learn how to "assimilate" with his own people.
Thank you for this. My parents migrated to Singapore ( from Zurich, Switzerland) years ago , got a PR and loving everything about Singapore. Great place, great people (they never faced any discrimination as a foreigner) snd great food ! Lately they've been thinking about getting citizenship but still on the fence about revoking their Switzerland & Netherland citizenship.
I would have forgotten you are a Japanese until you speak Japanese. You have blend into Singapore so well and can speak Singlish, which many foreigners find it hard to understand. And you are on point when you say 'chow chor' - amazing! Look forward to your next Singapore Hour vid.
What's there to regret? You still have your Japanese citizenship plus a Singapore PR. If you like it here, stay and maybe become a citizen. If not, you still have the option of going back to Japan. Nothing beats having choices. Otherwise, great Q&A.
あっというまに もう 一年になりました tine flies,, that chilly i try it n it was good but not spicy for me, so must put more chili padi,, oh yah my brother in law is japanese n living in australia for more than 20 years, he is a PR and will not change his nationality,, maybe one day i will become a singaporean too Ghib, hehe,, just wait for the news,, 😅,, Huat ah,, till d next vlog Ghib,, my osake is coming soon, gonna kampai for CNY , 👍🍶😃

You are welcome to sign up as a PR to Citizen foreign imported next generation enslaved, like the 20k or more each year. My sincere advise to you is to keep your PR and your Japan citizenship while enjoying best of both worlds. Reality is usually not what it may seems to be. 11:22 "Japan can learn to use less paperwork" Wait, they need to learn to ditch them 1980's fax machines first!! 笑 12:19 "Would you consider xx citizenship?" - No matter which country, I think this is difficult to answer! Personally, I love Japan but they don't allow multiple Citizenships. I would have to give up two, inexchange for one. I could do it but ponders would I regret it later in life? 🤔 Would you want SG Citizenship, knowning it'll be difficult/impossible to reobtain Japanese citizenship later? I know a few poeple who've for whatever reason has renounced their Japanese citizenship and regreted it.. @GhibOjisan Maybe you need to think long and hard about it before acting?
It was mentioned in the video : Singapore is a land of immigrants, therefore new immigrants should automatically be welcomed to singapore? How about overcrowding and hyper inflation? I find that hard to swallow, especially when 94% of new jobs went to foreigners (MOM stats). Mind you, singapore is already denser than gaza, and we are poised to import more. In Singapore, I have actually experienced reverse racism against locals. Everytime we complain about this, it is immediately shut down with cries of "Don't be racist"
Singapore is multi racial, cultural, religious, language, etc., and has a lot to offer compared to Japan…would like to see you action in IPPT challenge 😅

Yes, totally agree with u on what SG can learn from Japan, no service charge and free plain water!
Service level aside. Almost everywhere in Japan serve water or tea once you sit down. SG can do better!
yes n they know it is not sustainable with that kind of service. That is y many Japanese big store closed.
Do you think raising a child in Singapore is much more expensive than in Japan?
A topic you may consider discussing in your future videos.
Ok, will go and get a bottle of that chilli sauce! ❤
Please do! It’s so good!
My family dashed to buy the chilli oil from redmart after you recommended it. 😂
Haha hope you’ll all like it. Best seller in Jippun!

Take your time😊no hurry for the citizenship. Just enjoy your life here❤
You can be 100% Japanese (ethnicity) and in future maybe 100% Singaporean (citizenship). No conflict at all. Glad you enjoy your life here so far.

Only good if u single.
And if u want to gamble not enough
👍👍
Please your singlish is fine. The pronunciation might not be perfect but your usage of singlish is on point. 👍👍👍
Thanks 😆😆
The cpf minimum sum also nice 😂

Ghib just a suggestion. Since you are so into singapore and love singapore. Why not try SAF boot camp or join saf volunteer corps?
Is good to plan early

is there a time limit to PR?i heard some people have been PR their whole lives.....

Usually Donki🐧
Your wife is already a Singaporean thus it's best for you to keep your Japanese citizenship
This is common sense but many people do not have it once they are a PR.
