Have you ever owned a 04 4Runner sr5 .... Yeah with the v6 that fuckers fast even more infact then the v8 that they also produced at the time in the 4Runner. I know this because yes I do indeed own one. And I would not be afraid to race a v8 truck or car this 4Runner is quick
Dylan6611 agreed. everyone complains about the 4l v6, but I don't see eco boost 3.5l ford engines going 350k miles. I have an sr5 and it hauls ass. 0-60 in 8s with 250k miles
Mason Alexander chance agreed I own one and they should make them more like this one. No need for more power bc I'm sure that would bring reliability down but the 4th gens V6 VVT engines were sick!
I can assure you the V6 is a beast. I've towed with my 2015 limited without even a hiccup. I've towed 3klbs easily and it felt as though it were an v8.
DKMFan85 I know owners who get well over 200K miles on these. Not my cup of tea, but they are not low quality vehicles. Quite the opposite. Ignore the troll.
terranborn56 Resale value doesn't lie. I bought a 2014 TE in January since there wasn't a huge difference in price between a brand new one and a used one.
DKMFan85 The 4Runner is one the most popular vehicles for those travelling by land around the world (Overlanders), plus a Toyota warranty is good at any Toyota dealership in the world. No other manufacturer has that. (I'm a Ford truck guy and wish Ford had that).
Not everything goes 0-60 under 5 seconds, and in LA traffic it doesn't mean much. What kind of ground clearance does it have, I might be able to climb over traffic to the next available off ramp.
I wonder how much faster it would have been with the TRD supercharger. I agree with Nathan that the 4runner has quite a bit of catching up to do with the Grand Cherokee. It's amazing that Toyota is still putting a 5 speed transmission in this. Looking forward to the off road review !
I own a '12 sr5 and love it. It's a real 4wd. I should have gotten leather the jbl and a nav...I didn't think I would want it but I do. Otherwise it's worry free and worth every penny.
I like you guys, love the channels you have, I can’t understand why you do 0-60 at a mile above sea level in anything much less that badass 4Runner. Most people don’t live at a mile above sea level. I guess you should start out by saying we’re going to be about 3 seconds slower in everything because of the elevation...
Zorloc - That's an apples to oranges comparison, I'm comparing similar body-on-frame vehicles. The new Pathfinder IS a Mommy Wagon. It's gone on a diet and lost probably 700lbs? Nissan will sell 10 new pathfinders for every one of these 4Runners. Don't get me wrong, Nissan did nothing brilliant, they copied the Highlander!
Can you see the regular 4Runner would be any faster? If I understand correctly all them extra offroad goodies add some extra weight. Not sure how much. I actually like the look of the body style but would like either a bit more power or better MPG.
It was mentioned in a couple of videos and at the Chicago auto show. Saying that for Toyota to get the power rating need in the new Tacoma a supercharger is needed. I know you can add the TRD supercharger but it's my understanding the new package would include it. My hopes
"4.0 liter v-6 comes with everything Toyota seems to make these days" umm like what else?? Sienna? Nope. Camry? Nope. Corolla? Nope. Yaris? Nope. Avalon? Nope. RAV-4? Nope.....
Didn’t buy mine for speed so this is pointless. If I wanted speed, I’d drive my Lexus RC. 4runner may not be fast, but it can go anywhere. The 4runner is a storm breaker and gets you where you need to go. It’s a real suv
Don't like the styling, but I really don't think it NEEDS more power. 10 seconds is good enough for a big SUV. If they want to put in a more powerful engine that's fine, but I'd be happy with the 4 liter.
Dang I thought it would be way quicker, my 92 jeep cherokee with a 4.0 inline six, maybe 200 hp can get up to 60 in about 7.5 seconds. But you have to give it to toyota for the looks, the new jeeps are awful looking except maybe the wranglers are alright imo.
This test was not accurate because by nature the ECU is retarding ignition timing because of the pinging that is caused from running the AC and it being hot outside in general. You would have gotten a better 0-60 time if you wouldn't have had the AC on up until the test.
Wow a mile high hurts performance. My 2012 4Runner Limited with TRD intake will do 0-60 in 7.3 sec and the quarter mile in 15.1 sec. Pretty quick for a 4400lb Truck. Non sealed batteries? Serious that's your complaint and what makes these trucks junk? Almost every vehicle comes with non sealed batteries and they aren't sealed for battery maintenance. Go buy a battery from any auto parts store and guess what they're not sealed. Some people are just, well not smart.
huh? most people aren't even taking their suvs off-road but rather drive in urban-ish areas... and in every day driving, speed and acceleration - to a certain extent - matter a lot.
+ealiev60 that really sucks I was thinking about getting a new 4 runner but not getting rid of the old one if I do get a new one I guess a TRD supercharger is a mist
I wish Toyota would stop dicking around with all kinds of other crap that NOBODY ASKED FOR and give this damn truck a V8, or upgrade that V6 and give it more power. You read all over the forums and hands down THE BIGGEST grievance is not enough power.
Wow... that's slower than my old '96. Maybe the new ones are much heavier? The 3.0 turbo diesel in mine has half the horsepower, but more torque than this. God knows why you'd want a petrol engine in something like that. Poor fuel economy and a need to rev the nuts off it to get any power, or great fuel economy and torque at any revs. Seems like a no-brainer.
Holy cow Toyota, upgrade you mechanicals and tech in your SUV's and Trucks... Falling so far behind the last couple years, you're not fooling people with the cosmetic face lifts =\
Lol 7:00. It is ugly but it is a tough ugly so I don't mind it so much. This car with a diesel engine would be pretty good I think. A 5-speed auto is a bit dated now though imo.
LOL wow that's slow. Ugly and slow. Nice. And don't sugar coat it, you know DAMNED well the Jeep Grand Cherokee will embarrass this thing on AND off road. You'll never do the comparison because you already know the outcome.
Toyota is sacrificing too much performance for supposed reliability (reliability remains to be determined on these updated platforms). This trade off will appeal to some, of course, but more than 10seconds to get to 60mph is so 20 years ago, if not more than that. A shame, because otherwise, I like them both (4 runner and Tacoma). Toyota is behind the times when it comes to their 'newer' engines. Slow AND poor efficiency. No thanks.
Man it's a cool SUV but toyota killed it with the piece of shit weak V6 engine I drove it for one week it's under power it's too heavy too slow it Needs the V8 engine with a new 6speed then come and talk about the 4runner I hope Toyota get it !
No one buys a 4Runner to talk about their 0-60 time.
Have you ever owned a 04 4Runner sr5 .... Yeah with the v6 that fuckers fast even more infact then the v8 that they also produced at the time in the 4Runner. I know this because yes I do indeed own one. And I would not be afraid to race a v8 truck or car this 4Runner is quick
these dickheads dont ever get that... plus the pro model has the same power as all the others.. sooo, pointless vid once again.
Dylan6611 agreed. everyone complains about the 4l v6, but I don't see eco boost 3.5l ford engines going 350k miles. I have an sr5 and it hauls ass. 0-60 in 8s with 250k miles

@@bartontuckyman the 05 to 09 got way faster though
Wow, this thing really is rocking the industrial butch look. It makes the Jeep Cherokee look like a pansy wagon.
It's time to butch up or shut up. It's the only true SUV available with body on frame which makes it more rugged.
juan tafoya The Toyota still has body on frame ? In that case, it's the real deal !!!
Wildman113 the only one in its class* and iam not a Toyota fanboy, that honor goes to the inventors of the automobile: Mercedes-Benz the best.
juan tafoya You'd have thought your icon would've given Wildboy a clue as to your favourite car !!!!!
theantiredneck That's absolutely fascinating, Tired, thanks for the input.
I have an '04 4Runner Sport with the 4.7 liter V-8, and it's the best vehicle I have ever owned.
THE TRD 4RUNNER LOOKS BADASS. NICE.
Just bought the wife a '17 SR5 Premium 4X4, love the truck and the TRD Supercharge kit is really beckoning me
I can assure you the V6 is a beast. I've towed with my 2015 limited without even a hiccup. I've towed 3klbs easily and it felt as though it were an v8.
Very, very few road testers could get away with wearing a Disney hat. Nathan, however, pulls it off with aplomb. The guy is a style icon !!!!!!!
Like the concept design. Toyota is finally thinking outside of the box.
call it what u want. i think it's AWESOME.
Wildman113 what a well thought out and articulated argument. Did you learn your debate skills on the playground at Oxford?
Wildman113 You're right. No one probably cares about his opinion. Yours is of equal worth.
DKMFan85 I know owners who get well over 200K miles on these. Not my cup of tea, but they are not low quality vehicles. Quite the opposite. Ignore the troll.

Just got one a few months ago, love it so far.
I love the new design... BEAST!!
Like the truck and the Rush t-shirt Nathan. See you on the road.
Cool vid Nathen thanks! Was curious.. How does the Trd pro do on the highway (stability, handling, cross winds,comfort,etc..) and especially the MPGs?
I own a '12 sr5 and love it. It's a real 4wd. I should have gotten leather the jbl and a nav...I didn't think I would want it but I do. Otherwise it's worry free and worth every penny.

love the 4runner's new front clip
for a 7 minute video, maybe add 60-0 braking time/distance... u know, more than 1 stat per 7 minutes...
Hello from the future. They're still making the same 4Runner a decade later. 😂 They're still just as solid and reliable.
6:59 did your ankle died? But nice recovery you didn't even miss a beat! That's professionalism. Might as well slap a trail rated badge your ankles.
My 2003 v8 4runner has better torque to 2015 by far and still fills great.
I just bought a 2007 4Runner V8 feels good to know that I have better hp, tq, 0-60 times then the 2015.
V8 has a timing belt though.
I still think it's odd that this 2015 4Runner has about the same Tq/HP as the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder I owned and recently sold. Really, Toyota?
***** ..that is the trend lately with alot of manufacturers. It's all about gas mileage.
The pathfinder is a mommy wagon now. You should not mention it with the 4runner.
Eric Peltier understood.
U should do a mash up and off road face off with this TRD Pro 4Runner and a Jeep Wrangler
Jeep wrangler would win, but I would take the 4Runner for the long run
Carlos Guevara Love the Jeep. But it's too much of single purpose vehicle for everyday use.
It looks good! I like it!
The size of that engine related to the HP/Torque numbers seems way off. That thing needs a turbocharger.
y2kbug77 Magnuson makes a supercharger, gives the 4Runner around 350hp, and torque. And the best thing won’t void your warranty.
4:10 Way we go!🔥💯
6 speed trans please.
When Jeep and Chrysler are already with 8 and 9 speed ... outdatedd.
Badass keeping the bully look remind me of my 88 runner
I love this 4RUNNER. The future I can't get one
These lower front scoops and headlights are awefully similar to the subaru forester xt. Same designer ?
Can you see the regular 4Runner would be any faster? If I understand correctly all them extra offroad goodies add some extra weight. Not sure how much. I actually like the look of the body style but would like either a bit more power or better MPG.
I love 4runners
Howdy from Texas !
bigger tiers mean slower vehicle .... i think if it had the regular tyres it would move faster
Should've made the TRD extra special with the Supercharger stock. Or bring back the 4.7 V8
Nathan, does the new Tacoma include a factory super charger like we've been hearing?
It was mentioned in a couple of videos and at the Chicago auto show. Saying that for Toyota to get the power rating need in the new Tacoma a supercharger is needed. I know you can add the TRD supercharger but it's my understanding the new package would include it. My hopes
No word from Toyota on that. I don't think it will be part of the package. Hopefully, I'm wrong.
"4.0 liter v-6 comes with everything Toyota seems to make these days" umm like what else?? Sienna? Nope. Camry? Nope. Corolla? Nope. Yaris? Nope. Avalon? Nope. RAV-4? Nope.....
Only other one is the Tacoma
weaklinkfilms Yea Nathan is usually right...I think he was just stuck for words here and made an offhand dumb remark.
fj cruiser
In the middle east it comes with the prado 150, the FJ and the land cruiser 200 also. One of the most reliable engines Toyota made
Want this car
When you guys had a test with the automatic brz it was in the 11s.... I'd say this things hauls ass
did you try to do it in 4wd hi ???
Can you just do a video of the whole review not one part 4 times for one car
Didn’t buy mine for speed so this is pointless. If I wanted speed, I’d drive my Lexus RC. 4runner may not be fast, but it can go anywhere. The 4runner is a storm breaker and gets you where you need to go. It’s a real suv
That 4runner looks like it has Independent Rear Suspension
You don't need more power only a proper low range
7:02 did u have a nice trip? see ya next fall.
Okay, for the record, the 4runner is definitely not a crossover.
Don't like the styling, but I really don't think it NEEDS more power. 10 seconds is good enough for a big SUV. If they want to put in a more powerful engine that's fine, but I'd be happy with the 4 liter.
I miss my tacoma. I bought mine, then a someone rearend me. Lost my job since I had no other trucks.
Fuck, I just love the look of this 4Runner! I wish some one like VIA would convert it into a PHEV.

I love how they look, but there is no way I would buy one with a V6. An suv this size requires a V8.
It's putting out more power than a lot of previous V8's. Just saying
Nathan almost fell at the end lol.
TRD without a supercharger ? Pathetic.. doesn't live up to the name.
I get that every vehicle must do the 0-60 but t\idk i find it a little dumb to do it on SUV which are ment for offroad
huh? most people aren't even taking their suvs off-road but rather drive in urban-ish areas... and in every day driving, speed and acceleration - to a certain extent - matter a lot.
Ok.... what company will make a supercharger kit because this clearly needs more power
*****
Wrangler weighs far less
nice ankle roll
I'll add a turbo it will make much better
Do they not make the V8's anymore? I have a 04 toyota 4 runner limited and its a V8 and a lot quicker then that because well it's a V8 lol
+brody simpson no, no more V8 in 4runner. Only 4.0 V6 270hp 278ft tq .. I wish it had more than 300hp and torque, or at least supercharged v6...
+ealiev60 more heavy more weight sometimes defeats the purpose
how much weight supercharger adds? Or turbo? 500lb? 1000lb? I don't think in this case weight/power ratio is going to be a problem
+ealiev60 that really sucks I was thinking about getting a new 4 runner but not getting rid of the old one if I do get a new one I guess a TRD supercharger is a mist
+brody simpson *must
Nathan seemed so depressed about the 0-60 time lol.
Test a sports car off road prowess
Nice shirt
This really needs a V8.
I wish Toyota would stop dicking around with all kinds of other crap that NOBODY ASKED FOR and give this damn truck a V8, or upgrade that V6 and give it more power. You read all over the forums and hands down THE BIGGEST grievance is not enough power.
Part of the problem is that thing has a lot of weight to it.
Ryan Money
Sure, I agree. One way or another that thing is just too sleepy on the pedal! Less weight, or more power!
Kap Bab standard forced induction v6 toyota! (Similar to the Ford economy boost engines)
needs a v8 or supercharger option
With the look this thing has you would think it would have a bigger engine than a 4.0L V6... Kinda disappointing
Great video Nathan but that is one UGLY 4Runner I don't like this new body style.
Wow... that's slower than my old '96.
10 seconds?...As fast as my Corolla then!. B-)
Fish and fries anyone?
cmon toyota, bring on the diesels already..
So they jack the price for more cosmetic than anything else. Thank you Ford for started the trend. The grill looks like a blow fish.
Holy cow Toyota, upgrade you mechanicals and tech in your SUV's and Trucks... Falling so far behind the last couple years, you're not fooling people with the cosmetic face lifts =\
Oh God, that thing is UGLY... but great review as usual!
#1
Grill is ugly and not enough power fix the problems and this could be an awesome SUV
too bad you have to talk during the acceleration, cant enjoy the engine sound...
Yeah I agree it's ugly, but I think it's kinda cool looking at the same time.
It needs the v8 diesel
Real world testing my ass! Your gas tank is full lol
I wish they would bring buy the v8
Yup its a TeRD,lol. the best part of this video was the intro music, lol.
I absolutly hate that the 1GR had the oil filter moved to behind the skid plate, dumbest idea ever, thanks Toyota.
That truck is slow I have 08 pathfinder tested with Gtech pro and got 0-60 in 7.1 sec
Lol 7:00. It is ugly but it is a tough ugly so I don't mind it so much. This car with a diesel engine would be pretty good I think. A 5-speed auto is a bit dated now though imo.
My cx5 155 hp does that time, toyota are not fast cars for sure
Check out what my 2015 SR5 is capable of = You Tube "2015 Toyota 4runner at Widowmaker".
That grill look terrible..
LOL wow that's slow. Ugly and slow. Nice. And don't sugar coat it, you know DAMNED well the Jeep Grand Cherokee will embarrass this thing on AND off road. You'll never do the comparison because you already know the outcome.
Ow...ankle twist!
Pretty aggressive looking. Should have a V8 tho.
2014 toyota land cruiser v8 4wd is better
A lot more suspension, a lot more attitude and a lot more ugly!
270 hp?....
Hp stands for Horse Power. 270 Horses were ground up to make the engine. Any more questions?
He probably knows what HP means. I'm guessing he was making a statement in the way of a question because he thinks 270 horsepower is not much.
Toyota is sacrificing too much performance for supposed reliability (reliability remains to be determined on these updated platforms). This trade off will appeal to some, of course, but more than 10seconds to get to 60mph is so 20 years ago, if not more than that. I would consider the 4 runner or the Tacoma as my everyday driver if the engine would get out of it's own way, but they're just too sluggish. A shame, because otherwise, I like them both (4 runner and Tacoma). Toyota is behind the times when it comes to their 'newer' engines. Slow AND poor efficiency. No thanks.
efitzger this isn't a supra. If you want 6 seconds zero to 60 get a car or a raptor.
They couldn't make it any uglier!
Toyota needs to make better engines. 4.0 v6 270 hp?? Absolute Asian crap
Man it's a cool SUV but toyota killed it with the piece of shit weak V6 engine I drove it for one week it's under power it's too heavy too slow it Needs the V8 engine with a new 6speed then come and talk about the 4runner I hope Toyota get it !
