  • These past 8 weeks have been very busy as I just wrapped up my Internal Medicine (IM) rotation as a 3rd year medical student at the University of Illinois Hospital! I have learned a lot and I am happy to have done Internal Medicine as my first clerkship because IM encompasses so much of the other clerkships; I think it was a great way to build a firm foundation for my other upcoming rotations!
    In this video, I take all of you with me on a 12 hour on-call shift from 7 am to 7 pm! I do my best to let you all know exactly what went on during my day and I hope this gives you all more insight on how this rotation works :)
    Hoping to make another video about how to ace this rotation in the future, so stay tuned!!
    Off to Neurology Clerkship for my next rotation, don't forget to subscribe and stay tuned!!!
    Advice, tips, and strategies from a current medical student to help you become the best student you can be!

    Any tips on maintaining high energy throughout these longer days? I always tend to get really tired/brain fog in the afternoons, usually after lunch haha.

      Hey! Try to eat higher protein and less carbs. Avoid large meals in one sitting so you don’t get postprandial tiredness. Otherwise, the good ole cup of Joe always does the trip! Best of luck!

      Thanks Timmy!! It’s a lot of work, but also very rewarding! You’ll be doing the same thing someday 🙏👊

    Hey Austin, very inspirational video. I can't wait to someday be in the hospital! Great job on finding the time to be with God in the morning. I've been wanting to do this for a while but do not know how. Do you start reading any chapter in the bible? Or do you have a set routine? Thanks in advance! Keep grinding!

      Hey Luis! Thanks for continuing to support the channel bro! Great questions and I’m always happy to help. I started a Bible reading plan to finish the Bible in one year and was using that to guide my morning quiet time! Something else I’ve done in the past is a Psalm or Proverb a day! I think both of those books really help motivate me each day and I have learned a lot from God through His words in those books! Best of luck with everything :)

    My friend Nathan was incredible at Internal Medicine. He would work smarter than anyone else and get sent home early because the other residents were jealous of his skills. An inspiration to all!

    hi Austin, do you know which app or anki deck is great for Anatomy? Thanks.

      Hey Val! Great questions -- I liked "Dope Anatomy" and I used this during my pre-clinical years of medical school. You can find it here: www.reddit.com/r/medicalschoolanki/comments/gx128c/fully_tagged_dope_anatomy/

    Hii! 4th yr med student here. Is 12hr shift enough to learn? We'll have 12hr duty also. I mean, before it was like 24-36hrs duty right? More time, more exposure 😅

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD  2 роки тому

      Hey! I would say yes there’s enough time to learn because we only had 12 hour shifts every 4 days and the rest were 8 hour shifts. You definitely learn a lot on the floors and during your shift in addition to studying outside of the hospital! Good luck!!
