    Is subtracting the step 1 tags unnecessary now that there's "only step 2" tag under "no dupes" tag correct? Also, when you unsuspend certain number of cards, do you just keep them in the original deck or do u make a subdeck or filtered deck? Like keep all them in original deck will pile up to like several thousand no? sorry im a bit new to anki.

      Hey man it took about 5-7 months! I would recommend finding some early mentors or residents with projects and start on a couple at once if you can since they all take time to start up and finish so if you can do a little at a time and learn the process it’s super helpful. Research has been an important part of the ortho match and even more so with step 1 being pass fail. Best of luck!!

    Hello Dr. Nguyen, I have a lot of AP credit and am planning on applying to UIC this fall. You say to use AP credit and use that to take upper-level courses faster, but does taking upper-level science courses fulfill med school requirements? For example, if i take ap chem to get out of general chem, does that satisfy the general chem requirement for med school if i take an upper level chem course? Sorry, just sort of confused whether I should or shouldn't use my AP credits

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD 2 місяці тому

      Great question. It absolutely can fulfill prerequisite courses so long as you supplement with higher level courses such as Orgo 1 and 2 right away as a freshman followed by Biochem 1 and 2. This may vary from medical school to medical school but generally I had no issues with any programs and I took all my credits! Best of luck!

    i'm new to anki (using it for the first time ever for rotations) so i'm confused on what to do after "unlocking" the cards. i think i correctly unlocked 50 cards (they're highlighted yellow) but now i have no clue what to do next in order to review those cards. you kind of lost me there 😅

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD 5 місяців тому

      Hey! Good questions. So unlocking is actually not yellow. Yellow means they’re still suspended. Check out some of my other videos on Anki basics for more info, but once you unlock the cards they should show up blue and you can start studying the cards! Make sure your settings are all correct though 👍

      Good question! Yes, you could move the cards around or specifically study under a specific deck of cards if you click the drop down menu on the start screen but I highly recommend just studying everything together as your step exam will be all mixed content and you want to keep everything straight and in spaced repetition

    Hey Austin! Thank you for the video. I had a question about subdecks. I created some subdecks while studying for Step 1 but I kind of want to "reset" my anki before I start rotations but don't want to lose my time intervals. I'm currently using Ankihub, and couldn't find any resources that talk about a way to update the decks because obviously, Ankihub does that now. My thought process was that I could sign out of my ankihub, then update the deck according to anking V11, and then resign in with ankihub. I just didn't know if updating my deck would get rid of my subdecks like I wanted and put the cards back in their original decks.

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD 7 місяців тому

      Hey, great question. In regards to what you were saying about sub-decks, typically, if you update your deck, it would update each individual card, and it would not move the cards into different decks from where they were in the original location. Instead of resetting your Anki, prior to going into rotations, I would recommend, you continue to pick up studying where you left off and just right click the cards that are difficult for you and you can press the “forget” option This will allow you to relearn this card as if you have seen it for the first time. There will be some cards that you already remember and know very well and in that case, there’s no need to reset the entire interval the card. Best of luck! I hope this explanation makes sense.

    Hey austin, for some reason when i make the custom session on review ahead. it doesnt add new cards. only adds due cards. what settings to check out to include new cards?

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD 8 місяців тому

      You shouldn’t study ahead or postpone new cards or those that are “red” meaning they are still in the learning phase. Reason being, these cards have very small intervals especially new cards that haven’t had any interval yet or cards you are learning that has an interval of 1 or 2 days so you should avoid studying them ahead or postponing and instead studying them the day they are due. This add on is more for mature cards with large intervals of months or more since moving it around 1-2 days wouldn’t make a difference. Hope this helps!

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD 8 місяців тому

      No problem! Yes those would generally all be under the step 2 v4 tag! I would follow my instructions in the video and try to make your own cards for Uworld questions that you get incorrect as sometimes doing the tagged uworld questions can spoil the answers for when you do the Qbank! Thanks for the video,still i didnt start rotations ,i want to ask you how to use the deck after solving uworld how i can find relevant cards after each uworld question ,after i follow your steps i got 5000+ and i sorted them on created for IM but how i can find relevant cards ,and should i solve them after each uworld question or to unlock 50 card each day? And i want to know each question had alot of related cards?

      Good question! The best way I’ve found is to do uworld and read the explanations carefully. Afterward, you can search key terms and phrases that you do not fully understand like “nephrotic syndrome” and unlock the relevant cards related to it and created in the same day as it. I was unlocking about 40-50 cards for every 40 block of questions. Best of luck!

      Thanks austin,but the way you show have questions based on other resource than uworld so how you unsuspend them? How you pick which cards to unsuspend (i mean the cards that not based on uworld)

      I usually just unlock a chunk of related cards and study them after reviewing them for those cards! It’s not bad just studying the cards even without doing the questions or watching any videos!

      How can i find these related cards based on what? Abd how many new cards is best to aim each day

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD Рік тому

      You should just go based on created date! I would look at the total number of cards and divided by how many weeks you have before your exam. Typically about 100-150 cards is more than enough 👍

    Don't see the "!Notdoing" tag. Any ideas?

      Hey! The new updated Anki likely just already incorporated removing those cards without you having to do the step manually. I wouldn’t worry!

    Thanks for the video,what is the difference between this way and the way anking show how to use the deck,are alot of cards will be added here?

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD Рік тому

      Hi! This is similar to how Anking recommends to use the deck as well. This ensures you only do the cards relevant from Step 2 and shelf exam for each rotation! Best of luck.

      @@AustinNguyenMD Thanks,I think he get rid of lolnotacop and zanki pharmacology and zanki step decks,do you recommend to do that?i didnt use anki for step 1 and i want to use it just for rotations, Another difference that you add resources when you click shift,he doesnt do that? So what is the overall difference and what is preferred to use just for rotations

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD Рік тому

      Good question. Since you didn’t use it for step 1 you don’t need to use those decks but no need to delete them. Just keep them suspended. Follow the steps in my video and that’s how you find all the cards for just step 2 and shelf!

      @@AustinNguyenMDafter i followed the steps in the video i got 5500 cards for IM , Because i want just to use them for shelf should i do control+alt for zanki steps dexk, zanki pharmacology and lolnotacop? Or those cards are necessary for shelves?

    • @AustinNguyenMD
      @AustinNguyenMD Рік тому

      Hey! I would not control + alt anymore cards as they are often times double tagged and you don’t want to miss out on any of the necessary content! 5500 cards for IM sounds like the accurate amount 👍 Good luck!
