    The fact that matoro had the power of resurrection is painfully ironic because of his sacrifice.

      Definitely. It's also interesting because both of his masks as a Toa were related to the idea of death, and foreshadowed his own sacrifice. His mask as a Toa Inika essentially allowed him to release his spirit from his body and travel as a ghost, though his body was left vulnerable. All foreshadows that he was going to die

    I just realized the often clowned on mask of water breathing is actually super useful on a toa of WATER, for the simple fact of drowning your enemy with a lot of water while keeping yourself alive in the process. Sure Toa aren't supposed to kill, which makes it near useless, but any other water element user could hold their enemy down, surround them both in high pressure water, and drown them easily.

    • @sandspada

      To be honest, the Ulmak is basically right on the edge between Great Kanohi, and Legendary Kanohi. It's arguably the most powerful of the Great Kanohi - but if it *was* a Legendary Kanohi, then it'd probably be the weakest of the four. Sure, alternate dimensions are reality-shaping... but even so, no where near as impactful as the mask of life, or the mask of creation. One could *maybe* argue it can have more impact on the plot than the Vahi, but I'd argue that's just a matter of writing, and that the Vahi is still more powerful. It's pretty tough competition at the top.

    My personal headcanon is that the Olmak is a failed Legendary Mask of Space. It can only poke holes in spacetime but not directly manipulate it and that’s why it was considered a failure. Now imagine what it would look like if a true Mask of Space existed. It would basically be the Olmak combined with all the powers of a Toa Nuva of Gravity and possibly a bunch of other minor powers I can’t even think of.

When confronted with his shadow self that represented all of his self doubts, he saw it as a learning opportunity and easily dispelled the shadow Toa. And he was also the only Toa Mata to reject Tuyet's Toa Kingdom. He would have been the perfect friend to help Takua understand his own self worth and accept his destiny as Takanuva.

  • @TyrannoNoddy
    @TyrannoNoddy Рік тому +19

    Okay the idea of Karzahni using his mask to figure out how to "repair" Matoran since he's able to see the visions he projects is an interesting theory.
    Also wow, really haven't realised just how OP some of these masks are. Like, the Mohtrek basically having potential to create a time paradox is something not even the Vahi can do. I also always found it curious Hewkii basically got a secondary element with his mask too. The stuff about the Kakama is unreal too, no wonder it inspired this video. The Olmak of course is self explanatory.
    Also side note since it's not quite related to power, but I wonder if the Tryna was used by any Makuta? Since it was considered a mask that was immoral by toa, it makes me wonder if any Makuta decided to own one. There's some canon Makuta like Kojol and Tridax I don't think have canon masks anyway (though Tridax I like to headcanon as having an Avsa cuz the other Phantoka had Makuta in major story roles that shared masks with them, plus it symbolically works with his role in creating the shadow leeches).

    • @heroranuva8295
      @heroranuva8295  Рік тому +7

      Yeah, kinda adds some spice to Karzahni's methods.
      Yeah, some of these masks really ending up being insane in terms of power! Like, supposedly all Great Masks are at the level of power 8 disks, but these seem so far beyond its almost halfway to legendary. Though considering the difference between great and legendary is 1 power level, perhaps there's way more wiggle room there than we thought
      And yeah, the Tryna totally seems like the kinda thing a Makuta would wear

    I really do like how many of these are from the inika and mahri teams, really made their battles more interesting when the masks had such varying abilities (whereas most masks by previous toa teams give more standard abilities, like making shields, or creating small scale illusions), helped the battles avoid being the elemental blast affair that battles in a series where most characters can manipulate elements tend to be

    • @heroranuva8295
      @heroranuva8295  Рік тому +3

      Oh yeah, the Inika/Mahri masks were super cool and unique! And they played such a pivotal role in their battles, it seems like in-universe they were super rare too, because the Piraka seemed surprised by them. I wonder if its because the Inika masks were given to them by Karzahni, and as such were incredibly ancient and out of popular use by the time of the main story

    • @Matoro2002
      @Matoro2002 Рік тому

      I hadn't thought of that but it would make sense. The Inika used masks found in the ancient tunnels or gifted by karzahni, the replication of which could've long since been halted in metru nui (definitely makes sense with masks like the Iden or Kadin, which are presumably risky for the user to use compared to say, a Hau or Rau)
      seems fitting since some of the masks used by the Toa Mahri are stated to have been forbidden (especially the Tryna), could've been similar with the Inika masks, and the toa simply didn't know since they're not all mask experts

    Honestly I would've ranked the Calix above the Zatth. Yeah, the positive attributes of the Zatth are arguably better, but the drawbacks are also so much more impactful.

    • @heroranuva8295
      @heroranuva8295  Рік тому

      That's fair! I mainly put the Calix lower, because while I agree its much more consistent and useful, the Zatth has much higher capacity to change the course of a battle and wields so much power, even with the drawbacks. I judged this one primarily on sheer power alone. In a "most useful" Kanohi list, it would be much higher, and honestly a lot of these masks wouldn't make that list.

  • @nocturn333
    @nocturn333 Рік тому +10

    I'd add the Kualsi to the list. It allows its user to travel vast distances, instantly escape dangerous situations and teleport out of traps and prisons. It could even be used in combat to attack from various angles, or be used to set up an ambush. Its mobility is not limited by terrain (such as large bodies of water) like the Kakama, and does not have the slow start up of Olmak, making it a better escape option. Its only limitations are confined spaces, energy barriers and being blinded.
    With regards to the Tryna, since MU beings are teleported to the Red Star after death, wouldn't that mean the population of corpses in the MU is fairly low? That would make the Tryna fairly ineffective as there aren't many bodies to reanimate, outside of maybe dead Rahi. Obviously the Red Star thing was made up by Greg and probably introduced a bunch of inconsistencies within the main story. Still its a funny if unintentional stealth nerf for the mask.
    I also want to bring up the Mask of Adaptation and Psionics. Depending on how adaptation works, this mask could have both the Kaukau and Ruru and potentially more built into it. This is several extremely situational masks in one. The mask of Psionics also covers several mask powers. It has the powers of telekinesis, mind control, illusions and telepathy. You can probably make the case for Rahi control and invisibility too. Elemental masks are extremely power in general, but Psionics is just a different level of broken.

    • @heroranuva8295
      @heroranuva8295  Рік тому +3

      The Kualsi is very powerful and I'd definitely include it close to the top of any list of most useful masks, though personally I wouldn't consider it overpowered in the way that I'm considering. Its still a singular distinct ability with limitations, and one that can be adapted to if an opponent had prior knowledge. For me, to be overpowered means it's gotta be a power that completely beyond the typical scope, something mindblowing in terms of feats or totally game changing.
      With the Tryna and Red Star, its funny, because the Tryna's abilities were made well before the Red Star stuff was written. In the main story, we still do often see corpses around, even in the Matoran Universe, so I'd say its still very possible to get a lot of zombies to use. Though it would be kinda hilarious if it was an unintentional nerf. Though that also might make the mask all the more terrifying, because MU inhabitants wouldn't be used to seeing dead bodies at all to begin with, so to see them walking around would be even worse
      A Mask of Adaptation would be super useful, and maybe even be a substitute for some of those others, but I'm not sure if its overpowered. I can't see it completely changing the game in a battle or being mindblowing. But you're right, a full psionics mask would be completely broken. That's part of why I stuck to masks we see used, there are tons of theoretical canonized masks that are crazy powerful.

    Funny that you mentioned the idea of Karzahni most likely watching visions where he was able to fix the Matoran when talking about the Olisi: I remember discussing w at least one of my mutuals/friends of the possibility of the reason Karzahni went insane being because he stayed in his illusions where he was the one who won the Mask of Creation over Artakha and that eventually drove him into madness. I doubt it's the *only* reason he went insane, but it's certainly an interesting theory to think about and could see it being a factor in why he ended up being the way he ended up.
    Overall great list and I mostly agree with. There are a few masks I'd put higher or lower (surprised Gorast's mask isn't higher, and Bitils mask would be lower for me mainly because it's user is...well Bitil) and there are a few masks that I would've put on the list but are absent. That said most of the masks are ones we never see in the story and the only masks we see in the story I would've put on the list are Komau (I'm legit surprised of it's absence considering how it essentially lets you command others to do your bidding) and *maybe* Jutilin, but the other masks are ones we hear of or know of via Word of Greg but never see in the story proper (with Aging, Conjuring and Fusion being the big ones. Incomprehension too to a much lesser extent. Heck this is why Scavenger is possibly absent from the story and I won't list Mutation beyond HM, since we don't see either mask used in the story, not even in the flashback).
    Also something funny I found was how half of the list consists of Immoral masks or masks that aren't used by toa because of their rarity. Makes sense too, as Toa have standards on what types of masks to use, and view some masks too dangerous or immoral to be used. Heck pretty much all masks I wish were in the list were Immoral masks haha.

      Ooo that’s a fascinating interpretation of Karzahni, I’ll have to think about that!
      And yeah I can totally see arguments for changing some of the orders. Honestly yeah it makes sense that the immoral masks would make up a lot of it, a lot of these powers aren’t exactly heroic! Also at least 3 of the Mahri masks too. I’m guessing when the Ignika gave them new powers it wanted to make sure they were well equiped!

Sure, some masks were used for multiple characters (cough Volitak cough, though I feel Volitak fits all it's main users save from Chiara maybe), but overall as the series progressed, the masks almost always were associated with one character. And I feel that association is why the masks abilities often matched to the wielders personality. Sure in universe multiple Calixes or Gaarans existed for instance, but we mainly associate those masks with Jaller and Hewiki respectively, because they were the main users of that mask and thus we associated them with those masks.

    Here's some caveats for the Faxon; it can't copy physical feats like the punches of Tarakava or speed of fish Rahi and it can not copy Rhotuka powers...
    That list got a whole lot smaller, at _least_ from the official Rahi, I would like to see a list of purely Rahi "powers" (no physical feats/features and no Rhotuka) to really see how versatile it even is.

    Also a side note for the name "Mask of Fate" that the Calix got? This is not official information but I heard that i'd might've been a typo and it was supposed to be called the "Mask of FEAT(s)" instead.

    Would Tahu's golden hau from the golden armor count as its own thing? It is decently powerful given that it absorbed all 42 kraata powers which essentially gave him Makuta's powers.

    • @heroranuva8295
      @heroranuva8295  Рік тому +1

      I kinda count it as its own thing, at least as far as the powers of the Golden Armor, since you need the whole set to use the full powers. The armor is definitely one of the most OP power-ups in the series, only thing I can think of that could match it would be Tuyet's Nui Stone.
      I remember correctly, the Golden Armor was directly compared to the Golden Kanohi, saying the gold masks were like " a candle next to a bonfire". That comparison always made me wonder if the golden hau from the armor was a proper golden kanohi, with all the combined powers. Would fit with how insanely powerful the armor is

      That would make sense if it was, but consistently in every piece of media that came out, it was referred to as the mask of fate. Like all the blurbs, all the websites, and all the guidebooks. Maybe it was a typo, but when it’s so consistent across the board, I think it has ti be considered canon

    It’s interesting how many Mahri masks are here. Do you think that’s bias on your part, or some intentional or unintentional element of the Bionicle writing?

    • @heroranuva8295
      @heroranuva8295  Рік тому +1

      Good question. Well I think in general mask powers (and other powers and stakes in general) got higher later on in the series, and the Mahri were the last Toa team to get brand new mask powers, so they saw a lot of the increase. In fact, aside form the Mask of Speed, every other mask on the proper list is from Voya Nui onwards.
