This is exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for on the vita!
You have great taste David!
First comment okay I’m taking ur sentence for it lmaoo
I didn't want to mention it, because it is basically the flagship of Vita DRPG games (not very hidden), but here you go: Dungeon Travelers 2.
Hey still a great game!
Don't know how hidden it is but I've been playing Demon Gaze recently and so far it's pretty good. I'm starting to really like first person dungeon crawlers.
An excellent choice Jeff!
I feel that hyperdimension neptunia gets obscured a little at times.
Love that series!
Stranger of Sword City gets skipped for good reason: Operation Abyss and Babel (both on VITA) along with Demon Gaze are more forgiving and use the same mechanics. Enjoyed the video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching Frox! :)
I just got a Vita in April. Ive wanted one since they were announced and I finally got it. You got a new sub.
Thank you so much Sidney, welcome to the channel! :)
It's nice how you reply to the early comments even in the shortest ways. It's really cool. Of course, if you got the views you deserved that would be impossible.
Thank you Turtle I appreciate that. Honetly I wish I could reply with indepth comments to everyone, but often my time is limited. I still try my best to show appreciation to those who take the time to comment. :)
Have you guys tried the Utawarerumono franchise?
Mask of Deception, Mask of Truth, and recently Prelude to the Fallen was released!
If ya like JRPGs + Visual Novels, this is a great game to pick up. I absolutely adore the series.
Yup, so happy we got them all on Vita!
@@PSVitaat2am That is very true. I love having my visual novel experience on Vita : )
Great list. Didn't know about the last one but now that i do it's a must for me. I'd add the lost child to the hidden gem jRPG goodness which does resemble persona with more emphasis on Lovecraftian mythology.
I see where you're coming from there!
I’m not a huge RPG fan, strange, I know for a Vita obsessive but I still loved watching the video and seeing all the awsome games, James YOUR THE BEST!!!
Awww thank you David, that made my day. :)
Thanks for the video. Ngl the last game's description creeper me out a little bit, just little bit tho
I know, tell me about it! xD
I really enjoyed Exist archive but never finished it because of the constant freeze/crash, the last one is quite a surprise lol, I will try that.. thanks :D
Thanks for sharing!
PS Vita at 2am just gone Super Saiyan
Tokyo Xanadu on Part 2 ^_^
Yes I originally planned to add it, but since I mentioned it in past videos I decided to leave it out. Part 2 definitely though :)
That last game sounds like a classic that should've come over.
Yes a true classic!
The reason because I like so much the PS Vita: the large number of RPGs (JRPGs). One could be playing RPGs on Vita until 2050. The system is a blessing for RPG and adventure /visual novels players.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
How many of you have heard of freedom wars or conception 2?
got both!!!!
Who hasnt? Freedom Wars was the biggest game of its time, although iy came out when the Vita was already dying.
@@TheOwwen I've met a decent size group of vita player who had never heard of freedom wars so don't be surprised.
Yup, enjoyed both of them. :)
That blue Vita looks pretty sweet, wish I had picked one up way back when 😁😁😁
You and me both!
I may not be much of a fan of modern RPGs (love the classics.) But i'm looking forward to your future top ten videos!
Thanks Survivor. More to come!
I would recommend Conception 1+2 and Operation Abyss. Also, the Sword art online series are interesting offline mmo sims.
Excellent choices Mady!
Surprising most have been actually ported.. I would say Shiren.. Which is always overlooked in the west is the great Rouguelike most others are based on.. both Operation Babels get overlooked over Demon Gaze/II and Freedom Wars due to abundance of hunter games on vita..
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! :)
I recommend "Mind Zero" it was one of my first DRPG and vita game also. I love the character tho. Also dungeon traveller 1 and 2 is also good (1 is only japan release i think)
Excellent choices man!
@@PSVitaat2am thx man^^
I would recommend Ar Nosurge, but good list overall.
Good choice man!
Exist Archive is one of the most beautiful games of all time. A compelling story, full with well rounded characters, fun fighting and great visual effects. And is in Amazon at a good price, if you like physical. I know I like it and I enjoyed a lot and plan to go back and play it again. Thanks for mention it, it need to be play by more people.
Couldn't agree more! You have great taste Juan! :)
For The caligula effect in case anyone wanted it be aware of a game breaking glitch. It's possible while saving anywhere it will corrupt your save file so be careful and back up save files often.
I own the Japanese version, does it happen with that too?
@@PSVitaat2am Yes, but it only seems to mainly happen at Landmark Tower 67F for the JP version, I'd be careful either way.
@@waifu3070 iam planning to purchased this game digitally, i think the game looks good but im hearing bad things about the frame rate. can you please help me decide? im using us psn account, thank you
@@bryanlim7950 I love to support the vita when I can but with this game if you can get the ps4/switch remake i would go with that instead, adds the choice of male or female, new dungeons, characters and a new route also fixes issues from the vita version. currently on sale till tomorrow for 20 USD. but if you are not able to get the ps4 remake, the vita one is just ok, overall the story is very good, enjoyed it a lot, gameplay though doesn't hold up well imo, especially when compared to the ps4/switch remake and other JRPGs on vita. Does have a added bonus of getting avatars though. hopes that helps.
@@waifu3070 unfortunately i dont have ps4, next year i will give myself a switch lite, so i think i will have to settle for the ps vita version. thank you for your help man deeply appreciate it. hoping that the frame rate on the vita will be tolerable.
Caligula... 😅 Many years ago (in a galaxy far far away) I saw a movie at an art house theater starring Helen Mirren, Malcolm McDowell and Peter O'Toole about Caligula, the cruel and pervy 3rd Emperor of Rome. It was really bad and made you feel creepy, so I guess it did it's job?! Anyway, I do have some of these games. Not Caligula Effect or the last one (I've blocked the title from my mind...). Thanks for another great video!
Caligula Effect has a remake (or remaster with several upgrades) available on PC and Nintendo Switch. If you arent interested in a 25h long videogame, it also has an Anime version.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! :)
I know you're partial to RPG setups, but I would love to see a video dedicated to some adventure and platformers. I'm fairly new to owning a Vita and I know none of the games or stats per title.
When I was in high school, I was able to keep up with games and such being in school. At the time, Gameboy was outselling Gamegear like 2-1 easily.
My last system to own was a WiFi, so trying to keep up has been a challenge.
Since I'm so far down the line in lateness to the event, it wpuld really mean a lot to me if you could help me out in this category.
I love watching your channel and it has been a great relief compared to the other channels I watch. Some I haven't seen in a good minute as of now writing this.
Hope to see it soon, thanks for reading this when you do.
Sure KJ, I'll make a note of that!
Ys 8
Ys Origin
Ys Memories of Cel-something *(not PSTV)
(and 3 others Ys games on PSP)
Are all good action games that have light RPG elements. Weapons, Armor are helpful but it's more about combos, dodging and unleashing abilities at the right time in this franchise.
Im hoping that the Genkai Toki Pirates game will finally be localized for us in the west for the Switch. For the record I am a proud owner of the physical copy of this game for the Vita.
My man Jason!
Not a Vita JPRG, but a hidden gem nonetheless, Ancient Magic: Bazoo! Mahou Sekai ("Ancient Magic: Bazoo! World of Magic") for the SNES is one of the most obscure, and overlooked games of all time. It was made by Hot-B, the same company that made the fishing games from the SNES. The only way to play it in English is with a translation patch, but it's totally worth it. It has a pretty standard JRPG storyline, but the music is amazing!
Thank you very much for the comment!
You're very welcome!
I'm a huge fan of underappreciated JRPGs!
Even the ones that used to be, but are less popular than they should be now, like the original Phantasy Star games, and not just IV.
Actually, I just started playing through Evolution on the Dreamcast, as an example.
Chaos Rings 1 is a hidden gem in my opinion
Chaos Rings 1, CR Omega, CR 2, and CR 3. All of them available on the Vita and also Android (Google Play). Well, actually, All Chaos Rings games were removed from the store last year except for CR 3. The other games can only be downloaded now if you purchased them back in the day, and they have compatibility troubles with modern SO.
Yes I very much agree! :)
Ar nosurge, thanks for the vids.
My pleasure!
A few hidden gems imo is dungeon travelers 2, probably the most enjoyable DRPG I've played. Criminal Girls Invite only, and Monster Monpiece.
Also not that there unknown by any means but I feel many forget that disgaea 3 and 4 are on vita.
You pervert. Not that i also have them with the uncensored patches or anything....
I'm definitely gonna have to do a part two for this.
@@papita69xxx Nice, hehe
Mary Skallter is a legendary game
Love that game!
Recommending:
Akibas trip
Ragnarok Odyssey
Demon Gaze
Lord of the Apocalypse
Lost Dimension
Great choices Dee!
Took me a long time to get the platinum trophy on Stranger of Sword City. Good game tho a bit challenging sometimes. Lol.
Agreed, but still a solid experience though.
I think some of those boob motions are physically impossible. I'll do some research and get back to you. 😏
Do it for science!!!!
I love everything PlayStation Vita and hitted subscribe
You rock Andrea!
I think that Kings Field 1 and 2 are huge hidden gems on ps1
Good picks!
The Caligula game I can’t seem to find in English is this japense only? (Other then ps4) (also I’m on about physical)
We did get it in English but unfortunately it was digital only, and I think it has since been delisted. 😣
Thumbs up just for the thumbnail
Thank you! :)
😳 Best Regards Vita2am 🎮
You too :)
I like the Genkai Tokkie 7 pirates game. I've played a few hours too even though its japanese.
I really loved the soundtrack to it!
Genkai tokki seven pirates is a must have in so getting ;).
For scientific purposes am I right Ken?
Yes indeed hehe ;)
I own almost every RPG...its my fav genre, and DRPGs are my fav since they resemble table top games the most.
Huh, I thought SRPGs were the most similar. Something like Rainbow Skies/Moon...
I don't play tabletop RPGs though.
@@Rpm2878 i guess if you compare them to Warhammer 40k, but typical DnD is story, stat, and chance.
Huh, never thought about it that way.
Try Divinity Original Sin II, friend. That game is literally the closest you can get to D&D.
Are any of the Kemco RPGs worth playing?
Most of them IMO. They're pretty simple but charming RPGs. Currently i'm playing illusion of l'phallacia and it's fun
They all play simular. I would try one and see how you like it. If you do then you'll enjoy the rest.
Hey, has anyone else gotten the NP-2238-5 error when on the playstation store on your vita?
Yup I've been getting it too!
What do you mean some of these titles maybe on the PS5? I just picked up Senran Kagura Estival Versus "Endless Summer Edition" mint, CD and Trading cards are still wrapped. Lucky for me it's in English. Just took a quick glance at the box and started wondering if it made it to your honorable mentions. I blindly grabbed it just because of the fact that it was in such great condition. Good thing my girl is on her midterms and that gives me sometime to get into this one 😅. Also picked up Legacy Of Kain Defiance and the one that started the whole franchise Blood Omen Legacy of Kain. Holy smokes all in mint condition. I still have my original copies but lost the Boxes due to moving around. Believe I found my favorite shop today. The owner is also a Soul Reaver fan and man had a great experience. Might trade a vita or two as none of the shops I visited today had one in stock and Vita games are very scarce.
Hey just out of curiosity what school faction did you get in your Senran Kagura trading cards?
@@PSVitaat2am Homura's Crimson Squad.
You should talk about shinobido 2 it’s so underrated
Yes, especially if you like Tenchu
Funny thing is all of these games are on my backlog xD
Incase anyone is wondering, the story of Caligula Effect is superb! But the problem is the battle system might put offf a lot of people.
On the 4th video.... as some one who's hooked in the Genkai Tokki series that uhmm FEATURE is kinda expected xD
At l;east they didn't make you rub both the front and back touchpad this time
As for an overshadowed game.... may be Operation Abyss? Since it suffered from the same thing as Caligula Effect.
The first chapter alone became very difficult because of the very bad level design and progression.
There's also the game Fallen Legion , the battle system is pretty unique
You have to still use the back touch pad if you wanna...ahem...make them smaller.
I have not played the game, but I think the pronunciation for #3 is CAL - IG - U - LA (like the Roman emperor).
Ah okay, makes sense! :)
Hmmmm somethings up with the PSvita store it says maintenance for about 2 weeks now??? am i thinking this has anything to do with the incoming PS5???? could be nothing but everytime i browse thats what i get
As long as the JPKG freeshop is available...
I'll have to check it out, probably another glitch.
I love this intro...sauce??? And i love james cuz his always like our comments
Always my friend, always! :)
@@PSVitaat2am thx!!
Welp, I know what I'm getting when I get my Vita
Two wise choices, friend.
New to Vita?
I'm impressed.
1 thing, I'm broke as heck so I need money from savings or a job
@@Puffle573 Vitas cost money. Especially these days.
@@Puffle573 No problem here, Im just surprised peoples still discover the vita today, its nice. :D
Disgaea get into the series. Also use remote play to play JRPGS on ps4. Like 13 sentinels aegis rim is good for remote play
Its a wonderful feature :)
the last game be like " calm yo tits, ahoy".
my fave stil Dragon's Crown and Odin Sphere.
Oh yes those are excellent games! By the way sorry for the very late reply but UA-cam didn't show me your comment until now. :(
All the Y's games on the Vita are must haves. ...Even Y's VIII lacrimosa of Dana imho plays better on the Vita than on the Switch . ..
PLUS you can play the PSP Ys games also 😁
Best handheld ever made .
I know what you mean, it has so much to offer it's crazy. 🤩
Question about that pirate game well becoming to Uk store anytime soon
Afraid its Japan Only
I need that pirate game brought over to the west! Also Dungeon Travellers 2 is a VERY good dungeon JRPG. The game is stand alone in case you got put off by the "2"
Thanks for the tip man!
Ahhh nope. That 2 is a 2 the first game never got into western i think
@@TheReptain yeah its a sequel, but you don't have to play the first one at all to play the second game. They are not related for the most part
I can't get the Caligula effect they took it off the store and there are no physical copies it's digital only. I did pick up a physical copy of Exist but it constantly crashes after the halfway point. Otherwise Exist is a great Valkrye Profile like game.
There is a Japanese copy of Caligula if you wanna go down that route.
I have played exist archieve
Did you like it?
@@PSVitaat2am i didnt like it. My friends’ brother i think he got most of trophy.
UnMetal developer, aka unepic_fran, said on Twitter he is expecting to release UnMetal both digitally and physically next year on the Vita. Yay!
Man o man! I cannot wait.
Nice, so hyped for it! :)
Stranger of Sword city : I'm playing it right now. Currently being tempted to side with the one who has that chocolate Erofu...
Exist Archive : Seriously, how did I miss this? Thanks for letting me know!
Caligula Effect : From the dude that made the storyline from the Persona series ? Sign me up!
Genkai Tokki Seven Pirates : Bewbs? Say no more. It is the only 'research' worth 'developing'. I can read and understand spoken Japanese as is so it doesn't matter to me.
Thank you for enlightening us with these treasures.
Tadashi Satomi only wrote Persona 1 and the Persona 2 duology before he left ATLUS. but yeah nice to know he's in charge of this one. The only caveat about this game is the horrendous framerate on the Vita version, so if you want to play this, you might go for the PS4 or Switch updated version The Caligula Effect Overdose instead.
Also, Exist Archive is co-developed by tri-Ace, the creators of Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean so this one already has that VP vibe in its overall package.
@@martinde-serres8724
Good to know. Thanks!
Sounds like a winner on all fronts Hatta
Did you beat genkai tokki seven pirates or plat it? You should plat btw.
Yes I have beaten the game, but unfortunately no I have yet to platinum it. 😯
@@PSVitaat2am you understand japanese?
A plethora of JRPG's? I've been lookin and only see like 5 lmao
Oh there is way more than that, the Kemco releases alone surpass that number.
Teh lewd you say? *tunes in*
Lewd, lewdness everywhere!
Where can I get that pirate gsme
You'll have to import it from Japan
Lewd on the go is magical 😀🦄
It most certainly is!
This video is just going to make me sad.
I really wanted Stranger of Sword City, but I kept holding out for the Revisited version.
Exist Archive... is it still relatively low cost physical? (I need to get that one)
Caligula Effect, I think I was just put off by the relationship grinding aspect and really wanted Lost Dimension instead... which I also never got.
Pirate TDs? I'm listening.
Still haven't bought an import.
Should get Berserk Musou, even if it's not very good. The closest I've come to playing a musou in Senran... Shinovi, I'm not sure if that counts, so I might have a different definition of "good."
Speaking of "good,"
evil musicians. That was funny, CP isn't.
I still need to finish playing Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines. It's a little obtuse, no auto-map in an isometric view dungeon crawler for example, and the story is practically nonexistent but it's unique mechanics and presentation are worth trying.
You a big RPG fan?
@@PSVitaat2am I think I had only played Elder Scrolls Morrowind (I lost my saves before I finished the main quest), some of System Shock 1 & 2, the first Deus Ex and probably some in DosBox before I got a PS3. I don't think I finished any. Since then I've tried something like 50 RPGs, 28 on Vita, 10 I've completed, 8 of which on Vita, 6 of which I platinumed. I'm also in the home stretch for FFX (I won't platinum) and Demon Gaze (I might) but "home stretch" is probably measured in hours not minutes.
Not sure if it's obscure or not, but I liked Mind: zero
Yes that one is pretty unknown. :)
You ever heard of undertale for the PlayStation Vita
Yes sounds familiar!
If you speak japanese (or don't mind the language) i can also recommend the sengoku hime series + Sengo Muramasa Dx. It's basically a mix between visual novel + strategy rpg
Here's a little overview about the games:
In sengoku hime, you can select between different clans(like oda and sanada). Each character is based on a real historical person, but many of them turned into girls (like sengoku Rance or the fate Series). Furthermore, the past and personality of our protagonist (soma amagi) is different for every route, so there's alot of variation. Not only fot the narrative, but his class and skills change as well.
The main goal is to conquer japan, recruit some new generals (110 characters), learn more about them (during bond events) and play a love story with different themes, like betrayal, forgiveness, revenge etc.
The gameplay is similar to "romance of the 3 kingdoms", because you have to manage the politics, supplies and satisfaction of you're country. The battle system is turn based and feels like an old school jrpg. You also got some challenge modes and a new game plus for you're other playthroughs. After clearing a route or challenge, you get some points to exchange characters and weapons, before you start a new game. There also some special rewards for clearing certain objectives. For example: If you max the affection of one specific general, you can recruit them for 1 points (instead of 8) in New game plus.
Sengo muramasa is more like eiyuu senki, but with an alternative world War 2 setting.
You conquer the world, playing characters events and develop new weapons and vehicles (like tanks).
Iam happy you also mentioned Mary skelter.. One of my favorite dungeon crawler games :)
Awesome, thanks for the tip!
You can make small ones grow too
Hmmmm interesting
Yes you sure can. xD
7:11 best game ever
Yes exactly!
I remember hacking my PSVita to play Seven Pirates.
I have no shame and idc. ☺
Its a fantastic game!
Oreshika tainted Blood Lines
Good choice!
@@PSVitaat2am sadly, im in an RPG wear out preriod and i don't play It much on the vita, but on the positive side i almost finished mekabolt
lol wtf.

all on cellphone lol.
im gona play
Hahaha! Sorry to hear that about your cell phone, but you should at least enjoy the game.
Who tf disliked the video
I guess they don't like RPGs
@@PSVitaat2am thanks for replying me
Not into bewbs, but more husbando and awesome dude but I lied to myself when I played Valhala Knight 3 where you can take break time with maid and, poke them, sensually apparently xD
Hahahaha, a little bit of something for everyone :)
nope no pirate boob game for me ty. not a vita game but I really enjoyed black rock shooter (psp)
Oh yeah, wow I completely forgot about that series.
Mobius has no Sonic- 4/10
Hahaha!
Beside the import, these titles are decent, but very underwhelming imo.
Strangers of Sword City have very nice artwork/styles, and even a decent gameplay to boot. However, with many other localized and imports rpgs sharing the very core mechanic makes it very forgettable.
Exist Archive is probably the most disappointed on the list to me. It have so much potential. It took quite a bit of inspirations from tri-ace, and those seem to the only thing it got going for it. Everything else just fell flat.
Caligula Effect is surprisingly fun if you can endure the background music loops.....i literally play on mute.
My list of hidden gems are;
Mind Zero, Persona's not as interesting trying too hard copycat cousin,
Shiren the wonderer, The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate, Kinda odd even for odd balls standard.
Child of Light, for a long time, the physical version is only on the vita, and its a surprisingly good game made by ubisoft.
Okay, fair enough Letter :)
9:36
😐just for that
I'm going to come find you
🤡
Hahahaha!!!!
i was planned to buy one but... sony is done with it... i decide not to waste my money on it
Fair enough, though don't forget there is still a great backlog

Caligula Effect is... well... not a gem definitely. As for me, I didn't like it at all
It has a remake on PC and Nintendo Switch. Also an anime version if you only want the story.
Fair enough!
LMAO! Maybe there is a reason nobody talks about a certain game.
Hahahaha!!!!!
Freedom wars

PSVita at 2am I hope that it gets a pc port so my friends that don’t have a vita get a chance to play the game because it is just too good
