It wasn't until I saw that someone is remaking Vampire: The Masquerade - Requiem in its entirety in Skyrim that I realized the extent to which it can be modded. So insane.

I'm surprised that Warcraft 3 wasn't on this list. The custom map tools that game provided gave birth to one of the biggest genres out there (MOBAs) and there were thousands of custom maps with literally all genres from survival horror to full fledged RPG experiences to even FPS maps all from an RTS game.
Since the base World Editor is very powerful, it can achieve a LOT of customization through the scripting tool without the need to 'modify' the base engine. Warcraft 3 'modders' more often called themselves 'map makers' instead of modders. Perhaps this is why Warcraft 3 weren't well known for its mod community (despite still very thriving to this day).
warcraft 3 is some niche-ish boomer stuff, which is likely why it wasnt mentioned. it was really popular though and one of the best examples. I dont think this youtuber actually plays games though. He got so much info in this video wrong, and mispronounces almost everything. He's basically just reading off a wikipedia article, and Im pretty sure most of this script was written by an AI.
Regarding Terraria, you forgot to mention the community's insane level of creativity when it comes to lore building and MUSIC!!!! Music in modded Terraria scene is INSANE, these guys are literally composers at this point. And goddamn, Calamity Soundtrack? It's its own level now! It's fanmade but it doesn't sound like one, it's that good. Hell, the bells in the game if you hear it somewhere else, is referred to as Calamity Bells. That's how much of an impact that soundtrack has
RIP DM Dokuro, you will be missed dearly :( (He’s not dead, he just left the Calamity Mod community after being harassed and cyber bullied by the more hardcore Calamity fans in a vain attempt to force him to write his musical masterpieces faster than he reasonably could)
The modding community in Skyrim is so active and dedicated that it made me play one game for thousands of hours. That is more than the amount of hours I have on multiplayer games.
I'm literally 100% sure I've spent more time achieving the optimal mod setup for skyrim, making mods for skyrim, and troubleshooting mods for skyrim than I have ACTUALLY playing skyrim at this point. And I wouldn't have it any other way 😂
@@idontwantahandlethough Same but instead of playing at all I follow the cycle of modding, playing, noticing something that could be better within an hour of playtime, mod it again, it breaks the mod order, restart from scratch.
Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim, Stardew Valley, Terraria, Minecraft and of course Left 4 Dead These are 6 most well known and (Personally) Biggest modding communities to have existed
You can't add (personally) to that, it makes your statement kinda useless. Normally lists like that are objective fact lists, but you've just made it your opinion, and your opinion on the biggest modding communities is only worthwhile if it's actually correct.. ya know what I mean? (Otherwise it's just stating a falsehood) Which is fine, but your opinion is wildly off base. There are some that shouldn't be on that list and some that should. (although I guess you could make the argument that they ARE the biggest because they're more recent, therefore they have more people because there's just way more people playing video games now than there was in the past 🤷♂ what am I doing, arguing against myself? jesus christ. The old school Minecraft mods actually helped inspire an entire new genre, Factorio lists build craft as an inspiration and having played both you get a very similar problem solving loop. This then branched out to games like satisfactory and DSP!

I recently played Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers for the first time and honestly I disliked it for several reasons. Crazy to know that it's based on DOOM though.
Skyrim modders gave us the first non player character that dynamically and in real time reacts to and responds to the player talking into a mic with AI. This taken and developed to it's natural evolution, it changes everything.
I think it can't be understated how influential the Half Life modding scene has been, for both the first and second game. Not only has the modding community remained strong for the past 25 years, but some of these mods have become so popular as to eventually become fully fledged titles. Counter Strike, which currently is the most played Steam game by a mile, was once just a half life mod. Same goes for titles like Cry of Fear, Stanley's Parable and Day of Defeat were all once Half Life Mod. This modding scene was so popular that Valve ended up releasing Gmod, which was a whole sandbox game that allowed player to mess around freely with the Source Engine and Half Life 2's assets. Besides Doom, Half Life might have the most influential modding scene in history

You could argue that datapacks are Minecraft's version of official mod support, and those have steadily been gaining awesome features. I doubt they'll ever fully replace traditional mods, but you should really look up what datapacks can already allow, it's kinda insane
indeed, data packs are a form of mod, but they are more limited in what they can alter, similar to how doom's wads were not enough to do everything people wanted them to without extra assistance. There is also a comparison to be made between data packs and server plugins, both are more limited in scope compared to what is achievable with forge or fabric mods, but are far more accessible as a result of that, particularly, in regards to the fact that with servers, you only need to install them on the server end, rather than on the client end, meaning that only 1 person needs to understand how it works, and you can join it without doing anything extra, just with the vanilla launcher
Not having Quake/Source in this list is fucking nuts Edit: Now that I think about it, Roblox is another inexcusable omission from the video. Edit 2: A lot of people feel that calling Roblox a moddable game is a strange thing to do. I honestly don’t know. Some mods are so comprehensive, that they become their own games. Calling Roblox an engine doesn’t really work for me based on the amount of reused assets. There is a lot of low level engine things are are not able to be modified in Roblox. To me, that makes user content closer to mods. They are a self described “gaming platform” so I guess they are somewhere in between. I’m super down to discuss. Let me know what you think.

As for content that actually changes the Terraria experience rather than adding to it, a full roguelike mod has been circulating for a while now, which throws you through a few biome and event themed stages with unique boss fights, perks, and more. There is no post-game, nor is there a set path of progression; you just fight until you beat it and the game ends. With that in mind, I think it's safe to say that Terraria has attained Modding Heaven.

The fact half life wasnt even mentioned is just insane, half life gave birth to so many iconic mods that became stand alone games like gmod, stanley parable, team fortress and many more. Even those games are heavliy moddable like gmod, heck valve not to long after release provided their community with a modding tool called the "hammer editor" which allowed you to make custom assets and maps from scratch. Valve is also known for hiring mod devolpers to work on their games.
Something I feel like I have to point out: Skyrim was *not* the first time Bethesda released the same tools they used to make the game so modders could use them. That started with Morrowind's Construction Set, almost a decade earlier, and similar tools were released for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas.
Skyrim was the first time they were as supportive as they are now. Like adding a mod manager to the console releases and even allowing you to upload mods to steam workshop. As well as trying to charge people for mods too which was ridiculous. With every small positive there’s a big negative lol
@@MateoF_ Yes, but Lufa said Skyrim was the first time Bethesda gave modders the same tools they used to make the game. They'd been doing that since Morrowind.
@@akiranara6404 yeah I saw. Probably wasn’t aware or never got into morrowind. It can’t be understated how much the original DOOM games influenced and popularized: - First Person Games. - Shooter Games. - Computer Gaming. - Violence in Games. - Shotguns in Games. - 3D Technology. - Speedrunning. - Mod Support. A large amount of the modern gaming youth don’t know or even respect the OG DOOM. Yet without that small group at id Software, we likely wouldn’t have many of the great games we have now. Even 30 years later, DOOM still feels as fluent and fun as modern games, sometimes even more so! All because a group of 90s 20-something year olds who liked making games and playing Dungeons & Dragons turned down a partnership with 20th Century Fox to make a licensed “Alien” shooter.
Dont forget the sims. There is a series of mods for the sims 4 that straight up converts it into a sex simulator, and this mod has its own mods. What is funny is that modding is like a big thing in IT, there are whole ecosystems of software that essentially work by the same way that game mods work.
I second hideous destructor, It's basically my introduction to tactical FPS games and made me actually accept those mechanics in other games. Though I still don't like regular tactical shooters, not enough improve.
hideous is more of a movement shooter than a tactical shooter. You're not often let alone always rewarded for picking your shots carefully or sniping. AI is programmed to get more dangerous and accurate the longer you spend in their sightlines. High level play is dashing around a room with your fist that gives you more movement options. While swapping between weapons and schooling on zombies.@@necrosteel5013 I've never been a fan of calling hideous a tac shooter it's definitely an immersive sim. But that's a hard distinction to make for many I am aware.
One big omission from this video to me, are strategy games. Pretty much any strategy series have thousands of mods that fundamentally change the game. The best Star Trek Games are mods for Stellaris and Sins of a Solar Empire, the best Lord of the Rings game is in Total War, Game of Thrones for CK2, the incredible total conversions for Mount and Blade Warband, all the Civilization IV mods that allow you to change it into any genre you want. Even Mobas, one of the most popular genres today were born out of a StarCraft modification.
I had a feeling he was going to leave out strategy game mods, which is absolutely crazy considering how big these mods are and how much of an impact Dota is.
In the case of Creation Club, I think there is the issue of the METHOD of compensation as opposed to the fact that modders are necessarily compensated at all. Seeing a store open up filled with microtransactions imitating well-known mods gave many players the impression that Bethesda hasn't learned anything since the horse armor fiasco. If they were initially bundled together in a package like they did with Anniversary Edition, I think people would have less of a visceral reaction. In addition, there were issues with how Bethesda ran it (people disagreed about what Bethesda was paying modders, heavy restrictions on things like voice acting leading to poor quest quality, etc.) And my personal gripe with the system is that I was promised all future DLC in exchange for buying a season pass, but now apparently THIS officially licensed and released downloadable content doesn't count and you have to purchase the anniversary edition separately. Bethesda shouldn't get away with breaking their promises simply because they're being sort of nice by contracting modders for their DLC.
I personally think at it's core the main issue people had was just how expensive it was an to an extent still is if you ignore AE dlc. Even saints and seducers which adds four whole new armor and weapon sets, along with a whole dungeon with new assets along side some new unique artifacts it's 15 bucks, 5 less than the dragonborn dlc which way outshines it in a value perspective. While i entirely agree the way modders were compensated for it, being a lump sum instead of a percentagy of monthly sales and such. I do think in the end it is a pretty nice thing to do as a whole. A company endorsing modders so much so they commission them to make addons for the game. Nor would i consider the creation club content to be explicitly "dlc", more so addons as they're much smaller bits of content that usually don't quite integrate into the game like the major dlcs do. In a sense making them entirely optional and not "i need this to get the skyrim experience" though i acknowledge that's entirely up to interpretation.
Seeing Todd so surprised by people giving the Fallout show a 9 honestly made me feel bad :( Starfield was disappointing but it honestly looked like his passion was stomped on
Starfield became trendy to hate. Cyberpunk was more hyped, released in a worse state, with less content. yet got less hate. ironic part is that they would use cyberpunk, after 3 years of intense repair, and compare it to starfield on release. which just feels unfair. especially since BGS games have always been fixed and fleshed out by DLCs
@@GoalOrientedLifting Starfield just needs to get good in the next couple of years or so. I feel a good example of this, would probably be the 2d pokemon games, especially firered. romhacks like pokemon crown, that entirely uproot the original games mechanics, or many others that create entire new reigions, stories, and seperate experiences, are kinda mindboggling to see. People have been messing with that games code so long that there are many hacks that even surpass what gamefreak originally designed.
Black Ops III’s modding scene is also insane with hundreds of thousands of maps and add-ons to experience, and some maps are even straight up different games entirely
26:00 Another counter-point to the Creation Club Store would be that there is no other way to implement this if not for updating the game executable along other files, which caused the game to enlarge unnecessarily and break mods that are dependent either or both of the game version or of the version of the Skyrim Script Extender Special Edition (which is indirectly the same thing).
I feel it's worth saying that pretty much everything you say about Skyrim applies to Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3 and FONV as well. Also the Creation Kit wasn't named after the Creation Engine, the Creation Engine was named after the Creation Kit. FO3 was the first game to call it "Creation Kit" after the Garden of Eden Creation Kit from pre-Bethesda Fallout lore, a macguffin device that can take some water and transform an area of radioactive wasteland into a lush ecosystem. Prior to FO3, Morrowind and Oblivion were also released with an earlier version of the same software, except it was called the "Construction Set" instead. And Oblivion had a total conversion of similar quality to Enderal by the same developers as Enderal, called Nehrim, a year before Skyrim was ever even released.
One thing that you didnt mention about Sonic robo blast 2 is that it has reached modding heaven itself. yes, this doom mod has an insanely large modding community. with mods ranging from custom characters, to custom stages, to recreactions of other sonic games, to a PERSONA GAME, to A WHOLE KART RACER GAME, which funnily enough, also has a huge modding community.
Can't forget Warcraft 3 from when blizzard had a modicum of dignity. Having a mod that literally created a new game genre. Not the craziest modability, but definitely leagues ahead of the majority of games.
one game that fits perfectly is blade & sorcery, a game which is relatively basic at first, but with a few buttons (and an in-game mod manager/downloader built in) it can give whole new gamemodes, maps, weapons, enimies with smart AI and so so SO much more. Hope to see it in a part 2
I want to add that moding Minecraft Bedrock Edition is 100% possible, c++ Code can be Reverse engineered to then make mods of it. The only reasons why there are no mods for it is, because Java Edition is so easily moddable nowadays and bedrock is generally considered to be worse.
yes and no, java itself is actually part of why minecraft java edition is so moddable, it's incredibly easy to break into a game made in java, and alter individual parts of it, and with how java runs, it largely isolates whatever it made in it from the rest of the system, making it so you rarely need to account for anything system specific when modding, where as with bedrock edition, it's integrated with the windows 10, or whatever system it's on's processes more directly, and bedrock edition is more interconnected with the microsoft services compared to java, so across the board, it is far harder to mod bedrock edition compared to jave, without direct support in the game
@@DeveloperLuka I was simply expanding on your statement. what you said was technically true, but there was more to it, as there were additional reasons why there are so few mods for bedrock. Basically you gave the simple answer, I gave the complicated answer. Though, there actually mods for bedrock, they're just few and far between once you stop counting the addons officially available, but they do still exist.
Modding on Bedrock is going to get much harder, now that Mojang decided not to provide PDB files for future versions. (See how long Mario N64 decomp took, and expect that for future Bedrock versions)

Since 2019 they've been shipping obfuscation mappings with every release of minecraft so you actually don't have to reverse engineer stuff anymore and anyone who survived the early days of id conflicts when making mod packs can attest to the way they've reworked their entire codebase to make modding easier.
No mention of the modding scene of Half Life/Valve games in general, even ignoring how many mods for Valve games became fully fledges games on their own through Valve's support or that Valve allowed the fan made remake of one of their games to be sold on the store front, even ignoring that support the community thrives through some of the best fan content, equalling and even exceeding in some cases the quality laid out by Valve
Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and the Pokémon games should definitely be on this list. There are dozens, if not hundreds of full original hacks of those games which change basically everything.
I think what really helps in a game's modability is it's art style. If you want to add a new weapon to a game like Fallout 4 you need to know about modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, and if it's animated also rigging, animation, and possibly VFX. Most programmers do not have the skills of a game artist, making it much harder to make their vision come to life cohesively with the rest of the game. However, pixel art makes this really easy, even a programmer without any prior art experience can put together something not half bad, and it instantly fits within the game thanks to the art style. This is why games with simple pixel art styles like Doom, Minecraft, and Terraria thrive when it comes to modding
I'm so shocked you didn't bring up dragon block c when talking about modding for minecraft, it literally is one of the coolest mods I've seen for minecraft

I am legitimately surprised by the lack of Source being mentioned here. We first saw it with Half Life and GoldSrc, then it exploded from there. While many games are just directly made through the engine, there are a notable few which are just total conversion mods for existing Valve titles, such as Entropy Zero (1&2), Portal Reloaded, and SO MUCH MORE.
9:35 BIG misconception, the marketplace isnt the only place nor even the most popular place to get bedrock mods (addons) people usually download them _for free_ online
thats only true for pc and modded consoles. i think the most bedrock players are on the various consoles that feature bedrock. and even less of those players have their consoles modded so they can download foreign files
Quake, another id game, also laid the foundation for whole engines once modified. These engines then went on to support their whole own gaming titans and possible modding heavens going forward. It’s insane really

Carmack was what the industry calls technical artist developing the tools and engine. Carmack was person that convinced the rest of the team about modding
Kind of wild you didn't talk about Source engine games, in particular, Garry's mod. That game is an extremely moddable mod of an extremely moddable game engine. You can't go more meta than that
Idk, Minecraft is quite easy to mod and if you are scared of messing something up you can use any of the many mod launchers. They are basically just a download a modpack and enjoy.
calamity from terraria is probably the best gaming experience i have EVER had, how they took the base game which already was my favorite game and improved it so much is unheard of for me, the only thing that can top that off for me is fromsoftware games
I beat calamity once a few years ago and decided to go back through it with the infernum add while playing master mode and it is so great to piece together things that I remember and to play the absolutely fantastic boss fights that infernum has (even if I suck)
Reverse experience for me, I like base terraria a lot, especially after 1.4, but I hated the time I spent in calamity with a friend who loves it, it felt like endless bloat on top of an already huge and complicated game sprinkled with some cool qol and okayish ideas.
The thing about Creative Club in Skyrim is that all mods there (or at least most from my understanding) are officially canon in the TES world because they mostly add things from previous games of the series.
Just found your channel and I'm loving your stuff, and as someone whose main hobby is modding Skyrim, I would like to add a few things. Skyrim mods are even more versatile and varied than most people could imagine. Mods can touch every aspect of the game and I mean that quite literally. Mods like ENBs and the thousands of ENBs available for it are the most important and impactful part of improving the graphics of your game. ENBs tend to be extremely performance intensive but boy are they worth it. Rudy, PI-CHO, NLA, NAT.III, Cabbage and Ruvaak Dahmaan are some of my favourite ENB presets. Other stuff like textures and meshes are extremely important too. SMIM is a mod that everyone uses unless as a base as it improves so much stuff. And there are hundreds of texture packs covering different aspects of the game like landscapes, architecture, clutter etc. But I would personally go for the bigger ones like Skurkbro's Retexture Project, Skyland AIO or Pfuscher's Skyrim 202X. In terms of gameplay, there are mods for every part of the gameplay whether it be the leveling system, perks, werewolf/vampire gameplay, combat etc. The two best modders in the scene in terms of this imo is EnaiSiaion and Simon Magus, whose collections of mods are collectively known as EnaiRim and SimonRim respectively. It is genrally advised to use only EnaiSiaion mods or Simon Magus mods and not mix and match them with each other or other mods as using the mods from only one author would result in better balancing but I personally use a mix of their mods and mods from other mod authors. In terms of new content in the forms of new lands, quests and followers, I don't think there is a modding scene as rich and as extensive as Skyrim in this particular aspect. With the exception of total conversions like Enderal, basically every mod with new quests, lands and follower are compatible with each other with very few exceptions and patches being provided for basically every incompatibility. The Forgotten City, Moon & Star and Clockwork are some of the smaller ones but are exceptionally well written and worth playing. Mods like Wyrmstooth, Wheels Of Lull, Project AHO, Midwood Isle and Falskaar are the more medium sized mods. All of them have custom voice acting and are very fun. But the really big ones are Beyond Reach, Warden Of The Coast and Beyond Skyrim: Bruma which adds so much to the game. However, I also have to mention the trilogy of mods made by Vicn which are:; Vigilant, Glenmoril & Unslaad (in that order), of which Vigilant is finished, Unslaad pretty much done and Glenmoril almost finished. They are extremely dark and delve really deep into the darker and more esoteric aspects of the Elder Scrolls lore while expanding them. They are also heavyily inspired by the soulsbourne games with it being extremely obvious in Unslaad and Glenmoril. Some of the best new follower mods imo are Gore, Lucien, Xelzaz, Lucifer, Caryalind Thallery, Inigo etc. There are also some mods that build and improve upon vanilla content like Jayserpa's Quest Expansion mods. But there are more extensive reworks, of which Extended Cut is the most notable, aiming to expand and improve upon the entire vanilla main questline. Unfortunately, it isn't out yet but they have released Extended Cut: Saints & Seducers which overhauls the entire Saints & Seducers Creation, turning it into one of the bigger quest mods with adding a new land (The Shivering Isles). However, there are three mods that extensively overhauls vanilla followers, revoicing them, making them give commentary for quests and elaborate on their backstory. They are; Serana Dialogue Addon, Improved Follower Dialogue: Lydia and Teldryn Serious of which SDA is the most popular and IFD is my favourite. Also, I have to say a few things about the modlist Ultima. It was originally based on an amazing modlist called Nolvus with a few modifications by nukt. But nukt remade his modlist from scratch and released it like a month back but it is no longer available as he basically ghosted his community and it got banned by Wabbajack (the software used to install automated modlists) because his community was disgustingly toxic. I actually have played Ultima and it was pretty shit compared to Nolvus and modlists on Wabbajack. Nolvus (has its own installer), LoreRim, Fahluaan and Nordic Souls are some great modlists that you should try out.
Im surprised you would say what you said about ENBs, being a skyrim modder. ENBs are total garbage and cause so many issues, and are only really used by youtubers creating overbloomed, sharpened to hell, clickbait "SKYRIM AAA GRAYPHICS WTF!11?" thumbnails.
@@selectionn You are no Skyrim modder if you think that of ENBs. Don't let the fact that you don't know how to install an ENB or don't have a good enough PC for it colour your opinion on it.
You should try Better Than Wolves, a REALLY old, near-complete rework of minecraft made in response to wolves being added. It makes dark kill you, hunger is scary, death is debilitating but potentially rewarding, getting close to death makes you MORE likely to die, and (in the newest version of it) creepers actually explode from their center so you can't block them easily anymore. It also completely changes spawning requirements, dirt falls, dirt sand and gravel are now slabbable, and you don't even get dirt as a full block, you get pieces of dirt. You want A LOT of dirt, by the way. Nether Portals are also REALLY dangerous, not because of what is in the nether, but because of what happens to mobs around them. Chickens explode, sheep float, wolves get really mad, and squids? Squids begin crying. And Squids/Wolves have new behavior now too! Squids are neutral in the way spiders are, and they attempt to drag you into the water, which is really hard to get out of! And if they get close to you, you'll wear them and be unable to see while they eat you. They can also hop onto zombies, but zombies won't die from them. Wolves are now a huge issue, but also potentially good. Wolves drop wolfchops, which can be cooked and eaten, but doing so near a wolf will aggro them which is very dangerous. If a wolf eats rotten flesh it will undergo a transformation after ~5 minutes into The Beast with more health higher attack and all around meanness. It also adds a lot of machinery for the mid to late game, as it's actually a TECH mod first and foremost! It adds 2 forms of "power" gen, wind and waterwheels, which power axles like create does, but better. No worries about limits, as long as you can get an axle to it it's powered. The dragon fight isn't the end either, oh no, it's just the only way home with the goodies in the end! Endstone is used to make the new most powerful things after all, Soulforged tools and armor! Made in a 4*4 crafting grid, no less. But that's not all, remember how I said death was potentially a boon? BTW has a progression system, where every tier makes the radius you can spawn in larger every time! It starts off small, but eventually you can spawn thousands of blocks away! In fact, you may want to! Structures are now very good, but only as you get farther from spawn! within 2000 blocks, structures are 'abandoned', meaning villages will be empty, have no crops, and zero loot. Not even furnaces or chests! Within 3000 blocks, villages become deserted, leaving behind SOME crops and potentially, one VERY hungry villager who may leave you stranded far from home once again if it sees you. After 3000 blocks villages are full and have more hungry villagers and crops, temples have their full loot instead of the 'junk' items, and the elusive Jungle Temple houses a very useful automation tool, if you dare to brave the dangers of the jungle... The jungle now houses a very dangerous enemy: Jungle Spiders. These nasty little critters will poison you AND give you hunger! Walking on leaves also makes you VERY slow, leaving you open to their attacks. Ah, I suppose I should talk about spawn requirements and WALKING SPEED shouldn't I? Yes, that's right, walking speed. For you see, different materials now make you walk slower, like grass/dirt and gravel making you walk slightly slower, sand making you quite slow, and leaves making you walk at a snails pace. Now about spawn requirements! 1.13 lighting rules are in affect here, but blocks also change what can spawn! Nothing bad can spawn on wood, and nothing good can spawn. No, that isn't a typo. Nothing good can spawn. No passive mob spawns except upon loading a new chunk! Same goes for villagers and their hungry counterparts. Now for the special things! Jungle Spiders ONLY spawn on jungle leaves. That is their only requirement. If there are jungle leaves, they can spawn on them. Mobs spawned from spawners don't give drops unless they have lived for at least one day. Ah, a little fun fact that doesn't fit anywhere else: Endermen are chickens and will run if you hit them. Now for the nether and its FUN little quirks... Zombie pigmen WILL swarm you. If one kills you, consider you items forfeit unless you have either a bow or soulforged steel at home. The one who killed you will wear your armor and weapon, and if it notices you, it WILL aggro ALL pigmen nearby. Be prepared to die multiple times. Also, they don't care WHO or WHAT hit them, pigmen will always aggro on the player, and will remember that for a while. The nether hosts the best source of automated wood: Bloodwood trees. These funky little things will continuously regrow, providing automatic wood for you! You will need it. Soulsand provides access to soul urns, a very useful item used in many recipes, and used to cure hungry villagers. Speaking of villagers, lets talk about their trades. Their trades are painful and required. You cannot make eyes of ender. You have to trade for them from a Librarian. Librarians, are rare. Librarians only appear in villages beyond the 3000 limit. Same story with the OTHER pain in my ---, Priests. Priests are needed for the final level up trade before eyes of ender are unlocked for trade by the Librarian, an block which places blocks. Do you know what priests need? That very useful automation tool in the jungle temple. And that's just the level up requirements. Villagers tend to love selling you things for insane amounts of emeralds and giving you 1 or 2 emeralds for bucketloads of difficult to obtain items, including crops. Yes, crops. Carrots and Potatoes take 5 days to grow and only give you 2 back RARELY. This is IF they survive that long, as unless they are planted in a planter they will grow weeds that need to be cleared or they die. Wheat is worse, taking 7 days and maybe giving you a single wheat, but gives you ample seeds in return. That's all I'm going to list however, as I believe UA-cam will cut me off if I go any longer. This is your local adhd transfem signing off.
Apologies because I'm definitely not the first person to mention this, but morrowind and oblivion also came packaged with creation kits that are just about as fleshed out as skyrims is. Morrowind's most insane mod (Tamriel Rebuilt) has been in development since before morrowind even released. Oblivion has lots of really competent mods too but i mostly remember silly stuff like zombie invasion. Just felt like mentioning!
By only criticism of the creation club is more "fear of a possible possibility". As we went from horse armor to day 1 dlc, what I fear is that Bethesda may try in the future to discourage or obstacle the modding side that is free.
@@josephkeen7224 that is very true. It just feels way worse with Bethesda games. Because it's often unannounced almost random. And you need third party tools to downgrade the game again. Minecraft doesn't force an automatic update down your throat. I have had Skyrim update, meanwhile i was playing the game. Crashing the game. And as a final rub of salt in the wound. My favorite Minecraft modpack that I would never play is GregTech: New Horizons. It is insanely deep, and that is putting it lightly. I don't have the words to describe how deep it is. It takes on average 8,000-10,000 hours to complete, and not many people have done it. It turns Minecraft into an automation and logistics game like Factorio or Satisfactory. For example, creating a vanilla piston requires nine different steps, excluding ore processing, which is a whole different beast.

How can you not mention half-life 1 or 2 they literally became game engines source and gold source and some of the biggest games in the world are built on top of them garrys mod, portal, counter strike, and team fortress 2. They also both got tons of great traditional mods like entropy zero 2 and echoes.
I think it's worth mentioning that modern Minecraft mods do make use of a significant portion of the game's built-in extensibility. Things like custom crafting recipes, advancements, loot tables, textures, models, and sounds, are supported completely out-of-the-box with moderns versions of the game. And it appears we're very close to getting full custom blocks and items soon-ish as well.

That's crazy. I thought it would be included *(even as a honorary mention)* given the impact that it has.

Edit: Now that I think about it, Roblox is another inexcusable omission from the video.

Even saints and seducers which adds four whole new armor and weapon sets, along with a whole dungeon with new assets along side some new unique artifacts
it's 15 bucks, 5 less than the dragonborn dlc which way outshines it in a value perspective.
In a sense making them entirely optional and not "i need this to get the skyrim experience"
though i acknowledge that's entirely up to interpretation.
i also thought that a bunch of moders got robbed and other people were uploading their mods to the creation club.

WE HATE TODD HOWARD!!!! WE SHOULD BULLY HIM MORE FOR BEING IN THE CHESS CLUB!!!!🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Starfield became trendy to hate. Cyberpunk was more hyped, released in a worse state, with less content. yet got less hate. ironic part is that they would use cyberpunk, after 3 years of intense repair, and compare it to starfield on release. which just feels unfair. especially since BGS games have always been fixed and fleshed out by DLCs

a good example of a terraria mod that completely changes the way its played is TerRougeLike that makes it into a rougelike dungeon exploring game similar to risk of rain 2 and binding of isaac while still having a bit of the terraria feel to it
Leaving out Super Mario 64 is absolutely crazy, There's so many romhacks that are entire campaigns created from scratch, and even a couple total conversion romhacks
All I can say is Mario 64 will 100% be in my next video but for a different reason
@@iAmLufayou should definitely talk about kaze emanuar. guy is basically recreating every line of code to make a gigantic romhack that runs a stable 30fps on original hardware. he is also working on a conversion of the base game that should run a stable 60fps on original hardware. hes insanely talented
Black Ops III’s modding scene is also insane with hundreds of thousands of maps and add-ons to experience, and some maps are even straight up different games entirely
waw also has some total conversion mods, like a dragon ball fighter
I want to add that moding Minecraft Bedrock Edition is 100% possible,
c++ Code can be Reverse engineered to then make mods of it.
@@tomykong2915 Yeah you are Right doesn’t change anything about my Statement though
@@BryanLu0 A full decomp is in no way necessary to mod. I didn't know that they released their pdb's, but since the structure doesn't completely change after every update it's not going to make to much of a difference.

I think it's worth giving Minecraft a bit more credit on the support category. Since 2019 they've been shipping obfuscation mappings with every release of minecraft so you actually don't have to reverse engineer stuff anymore and anyone who survived the early days of id conflicts when making mod packs can attest to the way they've reworked their entire codebase to make modding easier.
dark souls is slowly approaching something like this as the fan modding tools get better and better
What do you mean ignoring, maybe I'm just saving Half Life for a different video?
Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and the Pokémon games should definitely be on this list. There are dozens, if not hundreds of full original hacks of those games which change basically everything.
I can’t believe that Warcraft 3 didn’t even get an honorable mention
Warcraft 3 is not an honorable mention, it's the King. A silent king however because everyone conveniently forgot about it.

9:35 BIG misconception, the marketplace isnt the only place nor even the most popular place to get bedrock mods (addons) people usually download them _for free_ online
thats only true for pc and modded consoles. i think the most bedrock players are on the various consoles that feature bedrock. and even less of those players have their consoles modded so they can download foreign files

calamity from terraria is probably the best gaming experience i have EVER had, how they took the base game which already was my favorite game and improved it so much is unheard of for me, the only thing that can top that off for me is fromsoftware games
I beat calamity once a few years ago and decided to go back through it with the infernum add while playing master mode and it is so great to piece together things that I remember and to play the absolutely fantastic boss fights that infernum has (even if I suck)

By only criticism of the creation club is more "fear of a possible possibility".

Are we just going to look over the fact that every time Bethesda updates Skyrim. It breaks everybody's mod load order?
That goes for the majority of games though, because of the fact that code the mod needs to run has been changed, even Minecraft has this problem.
@@josephkeen7224 that is very true. It just feels way worse with Bethesda games. Because it's often unannounced almost random. And you need third party tools to downgrade the game again.

Things like custom crafting recipes, advancements, loot tables, textures, models, and sounds, are supported completely out-of-the-box with moderns versions of the game. And it appears we're very close to getting full custom blocks and items soon-ish as well.

I am a bit surprised ARK has not been mentioned. I wouldn't call it a modding heaven but it was getting there.
Terraria does actually support IL edits and reflection, so you can actually change almost anything about it.
Obviously Half Life belongs to this list too, I mean so many half life mods became their own great games.
The Terroguelike mod just got released, and by the name itself you already should know what genre they turned terraria into
It's still definitely not as game changing as the others in this list, but it's a good step towards more unique Terraria mods.
