This was your best replay and strategic analysis so far! The new tools for arrows etc helped a lot and you covered a huge amount of ground. -map analysis (identifying the most valuable locations) -What do do when behind general ideas (also depending on your civ) -Why some of these ideas are bad and what to do in the specific scenario. -applying pressure -choke points x10 -attack strategies And I will probably find more when I rewatch this. A solid 10/10 video! Once again thank you for all the effort and time you put into this!!
As a former aoe4/aoe 2 player with 1/2 thousand $$ cash prize won I can say your videos on retold are really dope and your pedagogy is spectacular. Keep up the good work i hope you get rewarded for that in the near future
I have seen many "pro" players like beasty and others in ao4, BUT NONE OF THEM EXPLAINS SUCH A GOOD STUFF LIKE YOU DID IN THIS FEW VIDEOS :D pls keep it up bro, we need more of this content for the comunity :3 THANK YOU AND REGARDS.
Decided to lock in Norse as my main, specifically Loki. Your knowledge has been invaluable in helping me learn how to play better! Also the way you manage your economy throughout all of this is amazing, something I'm definitely struggling with currently is knowing how to progress my economy from the early game to mid/late game, especially while under pressure from your opponent. Thank you for all these videos! Can't wait to see more from you! EDIT: My god, I just saw at the end you were also putting pressure on his gold mine on the far left of the map... You're truly an AoM legend.
Hi Magic I wanted to thank you for your latest video. I really enjoyed it and learned some valuable things that have already improved my gameplay. I especially loved the format you used, with the red arrows visually highlighting the weak points you were talking about. That approach was incredibly informative, and I think it’s a huge plus for casual players looking to improve. I wanted to suggest an idea for a video that I believe could be very useful. How about creating a video dedicated to structure positioning? I’m sure you could offer great advice and tips on how to optimize positioning in different game scenarios, something that many players don’t always fully understand. This kind of content would be really helpful both for players looking to enhance their strategy and those who want to dive deeper into the more tactical aspects of the game. With your ability to teach and explain things clearly, I’m confident it would be a hit. Thanks again for all the content you provide!
The content and format have been terrific. I just started multiplayer and this has taken me from flailing around to a win streak. The new tools I thought added great visualisation to your explanations. Some people need that (like me) to bank the knowledge. I eagerly await the next video!
This is my first RTS game ever. You have made the barrier to entry much easier to climb over. Loved this video and would love to see more games from your POV like the Gaia video. Great content overall, thanks for what you do
Please make more of these videos. Came from League of legends grandmaster and I struggle to find strategic in-depth analysis gameplay for age of empires 4 and mythology retold. Will definitely keep this video in mind from now on
Amazing video and commentary. The arrows help a lot with understanding the points you're making (pun intended). Honestly, I think more game analysis videos that focus on decision making, like this one, would be great. Or maybe more videos that use your excel doc to help predict how fights are going to go. The homework you gave about how many vills were needed for contstant training of certain units was super helpful.
This video was awesome. Like it a lot. Very good insights. One thing that could help a lot is to use some kind of list. I saw many UA-cam RTS couchs (day9, in SC2; Grubby, in W3; Spirit of the law, in AoE2) using notepad and online simple wrinting tools to explain build orders, concepts and showing some numbers in the game. For example: in this video at the beggining you could have a list of the methods we will see in the explanation like: using choke points, pressure > turtling makes enemy make mistakes, composition surprise/counter (and some tips to read the oponent composition), manage economy optimly, TC count management (and scout as suport of this). Having a list to come back to organize the ideas in our heads to follow your train of thought. And also help to make the video script to don't forget any important point you wanna make.
Hey Magic, I love your content and your builds are easy to learn and follow. I was wondering if you could do video on how to create early army compositions with each civ and whats strong early then what to transition late game. I sometimes can't response to early agression.
Awesome video, and I think the arrows/boxes help a lot to visualise your thoughts, especially when there are multiple things at once! The cursor can only ever be at one place at a time, and is less visible too.
Another banger, always appreciate your videos. I am a Freyr main, but am new to the game and not confident in making my own build orders. So I have been playing Odin according to your build order and been enjoying it. But I will be happy when you finally make a Freyr build order video so I have an idea how to start his opening. Every video you release his helpful though. I tried the Odin build order vs the Hard Isis AI, but I kind of got creamed both times. The start is good, but Isis seems to get a LOT of troops very quickly, and have highly defensible positions with their city building. I figure the early all in strategy against her isn't working very well. These videos definitely help me see how much of a difference positioning makes in fights and how I can try to build my cities as defensibly as possible to take better engagements. I appreciate all the hard work :)
Still new to the game so I'm mostly focused on memorising my hotkeys and build orders for efficiency sake. However I really enjoy watching these videos so I can start to understand how games are won/lost. As you say a lot of games are won by your opponent "scamming" and losing a game that should have been a win (and vice-versa). I'll make sure to watch my replays when I eventually hop on ladder
I liked the arrows and boxes a TON. I could really see you being able to switch colors and diagram out the factors in a large battle between what each players units should/could do. That would be awesome for learning if it's not too cumbersome!
Nice videos. I play alot of AoE2 and AoE4 but having quite the trouble with AoM. Game is way more fast paced and punishing than AoE I feel. You explain your thought proces very well.
Great video! What would be interesting to see is how to deal with a Hades archer mass once your army gets cleared. (I got whooped badly with this, I held and expanded to the sides massed raiding cav, charged but he pulled in a curse and Rex lions into gg.) Maybe should've gone Odin Ring Giver Jarls ? In AOE2, AOE3 if they have a mass, it comes down to landing a juicy siege shot. I tried using upgraded trolls but my micro/mental was just off. :)
Another great video! It would be really helpful if you could also talk a little bit about what your opponent could have done here. Build a few siege towers and press their advantage? How did you know during the game you were so behind on eco?
You can feel it, since he had a tc up for so much longer than me and I didn’t do enough damage I think if he managed his economy better he’d have won, he faltered a bit under the pressure I believe
Love these types of videos. Would you be able to go through unit compositions for each civ? I'm usually not sure what to make and just scout and make the counter to my opponent. Also I'm not sure how to siege well as Atlanteans.
@@IamMagicAOM Thanks, actually was checking myself and seems like this is no longer necessary and they will just keep building no matter what stance, I was just curious to know if this was a thing still but seems like it is not.
This is an excellent format and the arrows are great. Hope to see more videos like this A piece of feedback I have is the title of the video - I think calling it a replay review does this video format a disservice. Maybe something more like "game analysis" or "in-depth game analysis"?
Something you don't mention is the way he control his units, grouping/moving together chariot archer and priest/lance/xxx who are waaayyy slower and allows you to catch a lot of slowed chariot archer that you should have not catch if moving full speed
Thanks for all the great content. Really enjoing it and im learning a lot. One question if i may ask: How can i see the radius of my buildings like monuments or towers for example?

Hi bud! This is the 4th video i've watched on your you tube channel! AWESOME STUFF HERE. Those trees moving with the units in the video here was funny :D Just one question! Great video, super interisting. Could we inverse the analysis a little bit and take the point of view from the Egyptian guy ? What do you think he had to do ? I feel at this stage of the game that the "macro" strategy is by far most important. As an Isis player, I learnt very soon I should not play late game versus Greek for example, I need to be agressive (I'm not able to be agressive as Isis, I feel weak age 2 and only a quick transi to age 3 with god powers & better units worth it). To sum up, I really think it is more a strategy game like chess, depending on match-up, map, gods powers; more than multi-tasking or micro. For instance, some very good players at other RTS games actually struggle on AOM (they don't really overcome theirs opponents with multi-tasking, maybe due to auto-vills...) Thanks and keep going, that's great.
Another vid I would love to see is different transitions after advancing. For example, the opponent here going for a quick 2nd tc. Whats the good/bad for that? It seems here like you said, if you let them take a quick 2nd tc, youre already behind. Why not always go for a quick 2nd tc? Just trying to understand like, ok I got age 2, now what are my options....
How do you feel about eggy charriots? They feel pretty weak to me. Slow rate of fire, expensive, can miss attacks, no bonus damage, not tanky (hopefully), need a 400 gold production buiding to be created, is half archer, half cavalery, which makes them even more susceptible to counter... I found them to be a bit lackluster at the end of the day. I do wonder if going full infantry is not a better move for eggy, especially with Horus and all his upgrades.
Haven't played this new version a lot, but I feel its way faster than it used to be, in my memories advancing at 4:00 was very risky and you almost had to win early. What changed? Gathering rates? Last time I played was in 2005.
Iammagic, I remember watching a video that you made about tactics vs strategy and I swore it was on your channel. Did you remove it or was it somewhere else? You had an excel spreadsheet breaking down key points of tactics and strategy and I believe the map you were playing on in the videos was Oasis(?).
Great video as always! Any chance to add you in-game to watch you play/your replays? Thanks in advance, I hope also to meet you in-game to learn even more :D
How do we transition to farms? And when? Could you make a video on this topic? Like, I wonder how do you keep up with the micro on the resources. I mean, sometimes I get distracted and suddenly I have 20 workers idle for I don’t know how long because they finished hunting or they chopped all the trees… Also I’ve noticed sometimes I don’t have them distributed in the most efficient way, so either I’m missing resources for buildings or for army, or upgrades. Thank you!
Can you make a video where you fight the legendary AI using the 2 tc rain ra build order? I know fighting pro players are harder but I want to see what to youll do witj the constant raiding etc. And how will it affect the timings etc. Thanks!
I have problem deciding when to spend resources on upgrading units vs just buying more units. Is there any good rule of thumb when to upgrade the soldiers you have and when to just produce more soldiers?
there's a lot of variables that play into it but for me, i'd probably like to get them after I have a few units out, so if I were making raiding cavalry, i'd make around 5-10 and then get it. you can apply that logic to most units
At arround 11:30 wouldn't it be also good to invest the ressources not into the TC, but instead a hillfort? Since at that point you're trying to push damage and the TC delays that?
I think it would be only if the hill fort can block a gold mine or a vital area, if I put a hill fort in front of his base he can kind of just ignore it and since his gold was on the opposite side it’s a bit difficult
The amount of multitasking with the economy and maintaining the army in the front is crazy I can't keep up with both how do you do it and I'm using Xbox too lol
Great vid. What do you think your opponent should do once you were of similar strenght? It seemed like you won so decisivelly in the end. Edit: Hm, I am checking that he has 4K wood. So he probably just got overwhelmed. :P
Just got back to AoM after ca. 15 years away. I never learned how to use hotkeys. Do you have tip on how to start from clicking everywhere to slowly implement adding hotkeys in the gameplays? I find it very hard. For info, I used to play LoL/WoW by clicking with the mouse on each ability 😂
add one at a time, i'd definitely start with addle idle villager hotkeys and click it every few seconds, that's what I do. I have mine on space, after you get use to that add idle millitary hotkey and do the same, i'd put that on ctrl + space
question : why does the score say you are ahead for a really long time when u have been behind ? also since scores are visible, would u use that to your advantage or is it misleading (cuz in this game enemy had lot of eco and it still says u r ahead)
Hi thanks to your videos I am learning a lot, I would like to start playing pvp but it gives me anxiety, can you talk about how to manage these emotions? Since you play at a professional level thank you
I get anxiety too, I think it's normal but at the end of the day just remember that it doesn't matter, win/lose nothing will change really, the important part is that you're improving and getting better, don't worry about winning/losing for now.
This was your best replay and strategic analysis so far!

Extremely good video
Please, if u can, make a exclusive Hades order guide !!! thanks !!!! its my favorite divinity.
The amount of multitasking with the economy and maintaining the army in the front is crazy I can't keep up with both how do you do it and I'm using Xbox too lol
Can talk more about when to get tc?
Great vid. What do you think your opponent should do once you were of similar strenght? It seemed like you won so decisivelly in the end.
Edit: Hm, I am checking that he has 4K wood. So he probably just got overwhelmed. :P
yep!
@@IamMagicAOM thank you so much for the tip! I will try that then! :)
Amazing content!
You guys watching this, don't forget to subscribe AND like the videos.
Magic, how do you control too many things simultaneous? I feel lost mid to late game with so many functions
Focus on improving one thing at a time, don’t try to do too much all at once, you’ll get there !
Very nice arrows
This is masterclass basically. You could’ve played around a bit more with the fog of war button during the vid, to not have it revealed all the time
Good idea!
question : why does the score say you are ahead for a really long time when u have been behind ?
also since scores are visible, would u use that to your advantage or is it misleading (cuz in this game enemy had lot of eco and it still says u r ahead)
I don’t really look at score, as you could see in this case it was wrong ! 😅
Sick Video!
My man
Your are a best!!
This is so awesome
My man
Hi thanks to your videos I am learning a lot, I would like to start playing pvp but it gives me anxiety, can you talk about how to manage these emotions? Since you play at a professional level thank you
I get anxiety too, I think it's normal but at the end of the day just remember that it doesn't matter, win/lose nothing will change really, the important part is that you're improving and getting better, don't worry about winning/losing for now.
@@IamMagicAOM thank you❤️
pretty good video
