When i was about 7 years old i found wild tadpoles and created this same set up! A lot grew very healthy and i let them go. My mum thought they needed sunlight and left the tub in the hot sun all day, killed all of them.

Man that's quite the complex way of feeding those tadpoles!! I've never raised dart frogs, but living in California I've rescued tree frog tadpoles from drying up mud puddles ever since I was like 5 years old, I'm 63 now and will still do it! I've always just taken the tadpoles and put them in a 5 gal. aquarium and just used water out of my house, letting the water sit outside for 24 hours and sometimes just straight from the tap, depending on how chlorinated the water is where I'm living at the time, i fill the tank half way, and set a large rock of branch or flat piece of wood that floats on top, and feed them plain old fish food out of a shaker, the plain old gold fish food is usually fine but I usually use tetra min flakes, and that is fine! When they start turning into froglets I catch them and take them to one of the small creeks around that dont have fish and release them, I've even just left the tanks outside and just let them disperse on their own, they can climb the glass so if you do it indoors make sure you have something on top to keep them in if you dont want tree froglets all over the room! I usually dont even use a pump or filter, just change the water once a week and add a little new every day, the tadpoles start taking air at the surface when still quite small, IVE done this with bullfrog tadpoles as well and they can take sometimes over a year to develop all the way and never put them in with the tree frog tadpoles because the bullfrog tadpoles like when they're adults will eat anything they can fit in their mouths!
I have about 1000 from a frog that I don't know the species. It is a wild frog that lays eggs in my rain collection buckets for my garden. I dont want then to die.

Tons or great info! I noticed that you did not use a heater is there a specific temp range that you monitor the water for or just ambient room temp? Do they grow quicker at warmer temps etc...? Maybe this is an odd request but the next time you move some adult frogs from an established viv could you somehow document it or perhaps give pointers on how you manage catching and moving frogs? Thanks for the great vid!
Trevor W yeah I’ve never really checked the temp so just ambient room temp...I have heard that warmer temps yield faster morph time... where mine are at now.... they usually morph in about 50-70 days
I received a plant and there were two tadpoles in the bag, one dead and one alive with half its tail cut off...I rescued it and put it in my vivarium, when I found it it was about 2cm, now after 3 months it is still a tadpole, but this with 6.5cm, is it normal to take that long? He has fully regenerated his tail and continues to grow, but only growing like a tadpole, no legs yet
I keep some isopods & springtails in my dart frog homes. I recently found clear jell in the petre dish under the coco hut, but no eggs. There was an isopod in the dish. Could he have eaten them or is another female frog the culprit !?

Great vid. I have a group of Leuc's that have access to a petri dish but they've just decided to lay their first eggs on a bromeliad leaf. Do I/should I try and get them off, if so whats the do's and don'ts of this? Bit cautious as these are the first frog eggs I've had

Greg Czyrak thanks, it’s good to be back, so yes I’m mixing morphs and I have mixed leucs in with tincs... I’ve never had an issue with growth hormone thing.... these froglets morph out huge!
Do you make a living off of frogs or where do u work? I really want to start working to become a fish and amphibian breeder to help make a little more but I dont know how worth it it would be. I mean ill still have the fish and frogs, but I dont know if I can really profit off of it enough lol
We had some tadpoles hatch out in my kids baby pool while we were out of town. I want to save some of them and raise them as a hands on science experiment for my kids. I have no idea what kind they are, I assume they're the little frogs (people call them tree frogs around here but that may be completely wrong?). I bought a 10 gal fish tank to keep on the porch. Any advice would be appreciated. I've read to use a filter and I've read not to and I've read use one with a sponge filter as you are doing here. Is that from the beginning or only when they reach a certain age/size? Same with food, I've read boiled lettuce, fish food, and nothing at all of there's no lid on an outside tank. I bought a small jar of frog food at Walmart but that may be completely wrong. I love frogs so part of me is just trying to save as many as possible (Another question, how many can I put in the tank?) and the other part just thought it'd be fun for the kids but I have no idea what I am doing. TBH I've even read several different kinds and different amounts of water to put in the tank. I figure I have to move them soon before they run out of air in the pool or it gets too hot (IDK?) so whatever advice you can give as fast as possible would be greatly appreciated!

blight forge to my knowledge they sontbeach each other with this set up, I mean it’s possible 1 or 2 get eaten but I don’t know... I’m not worried about numbers... I care more About quality of animal.. and this method yields lots of large healthy froglets sooooo
@@TroyGoldberg ok cool, was only asking as i thought that maybe for some reason as long as they have enough food this instinct could be controlled and you hadnt noticed any losses. i currently have over a hundred tads so this method is very appealing as you can imagine. Makes way more sense to me as well in terms of water quality. cheers
blight forge that’s exactly why I switched to this method.. I had around 200 tadpoles at the time.... I was doing about 60-80 tadpoles per tub...it does have a lot to do with the food I believe.
I have a 250 gallon pound in my yard and I live in Kansas. It gets pretty cold here in the winter. Would it be a good idea to try to raise frogs in this pound are would it be to cold for them, are would they just run a way when they become frogs? The only thing I have in my pound is gold fish. Can you mix all different sizes in there and just put in new ones? And can you mix different localitys/species tadpoles as king as they are different enough that you can tell them apart once they leave the water?
Yes!my common frog and bull frog tadpoles share the same tank! And you can’t really tell them apart untill they grow! Also as long as they are from the same pond of place!

It’s possible, but it’s Also somewhat fairly common for females to lay a jelly mass but not eggs when they’re first stating out

Depends on the species. Dendrobates around 10-18 months, Ranitomeya 6-10 months, Oophaga 8-never months lol

Have you tried a turkey baster instead of net for handling tadpoles? thus less physical abrasive contact with them..
Turkey Bastet only really works for really small tadpoles, after they’re a few weeks old they wouldn’t fit. The net works just fine ;)

Depends on the species. Chorus frogs and tree frogs like greys work.
