Whoa, the amount of bins you have in the background reeeaaally intimidate me, then I saw you had a greenhouse/garden too... my lord! I assume this is full time?! A bloody dream if you can do this full time, but to have to work, THEN take proper care of all those critters?! No way!
Those are so cute! I’ve done zero dart frog research but I can see myself getting some eventually. I LOVED building my crested gecko’s vivarium but know way more about different plants now so I would really have fun designing one for far frogs. Especially since they’re lighter and less clumsy than geckos! I could use more delicate plants.
This was really enjoyable. I currently have some tads now from my Phyllobates Vittatus and Ranitomeya variabilis “Borja Ridge”. I love your grow out set ups. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I have two Dendrobates tinctorius azureus there so was one I got them as froglets and raised them and watched them grow they are massive now and I know one is a female and I’m 80 percent sure the other is a male so I’m so excited to breed them if they are a pair it seems so cool I also want some golden poison dart frogs as my next species I’m also getting mounting geckos soon which I’m so excited for
I raied up 5 same speciel frog like yours from tadpoles to adult frogs, I used ( and useing today too) rain water to change they some of they water. I keep them a 11l aquarium (not fully filled) and keep them together from the begining. They are so intresting, dayly active and decorative creatures. I so love to wacth them all day...
They're so cute!! Congratulations on raising them up! I'm preparing and planning to get d. tinctorius frogs in the upcoming year. My favorite localities are Robertus and Koetari River, and I keep going back and forth on which one I want more. It's tough, they're both so beautiful and quite different from one another.
Good job! I used to breed D. lucomelas. I had them in a fairly large enclosure and was able to let the tadpoles morph out with their parents. Somehow they managed to not get eaten by the Nepenthes! Cheers, Chris
I have two Dendrobates Tinctorius Azureus and three Dendrobates Leucomelas! 🐸 I am hoping to be the proud owner of some tads one day but my Tincs are both female. I’m waiting for the leucs to mature. Love your channel by the way!
Your content is genuinely amazing! I teach high school science and I currently have two crested geckos and a veiled chameleon in class. While school is hybrid right now, I know that my students find them super interesting. Your elaborate terrarium designs and care videos make me envious of your talent. I wish I had found these videos in the fall - it would be so neat to design a terrarium with my freshman biology students and design a tank with a cleanup crew, soil, real plants, etc. I'd be interested in hearing your take on that if I were to discuss nutrient cycling with my kids!
Thank you so much for the love! I’m so flattered! I’ve been meaning to put together a video that discusses this topic (terrestrial nitrogen cycle). Hopefully soon, I am a one man team here and there’s always a million things going on 😅. Take care and thank you for your support and viewership!
Such a cool video! I have 2 Dendrobates tinctorius 'Azerus', (Pebbles and to be determined,) and 3 Dendrobates Leucomelas 'Kahn Line' (Sam, Merry, and Pippin). None are of breeding age but I'm hopeful I'll at least get a breeding pair of the Lecus.
Those baby azureus are beautiful. Do the plants rely on the decomposition of the leaves and poop of the froglets and spring tails for their nutrient? Or do you need to feed them?
Hi Dion, we have some dart frog tadpoles x 2 varieties: Azureus and Tumucumaque...and have built our grow out tubs. We have put ventilation holes in the sides and lids. I'm now thinking they are either a) too large as fruit flies can get out b) not really necessary (as we can take the lids off) or both. We'd like your advice /suggestion for vent hole size if they are needed. Your videos are real good, clear and your knowledge is brill...thank you
I had lucs and azareus (sp? Lol) and I absolutely loved them. I had them in a decent paludarium with a nice waterfall over a wood ledge. They would hop around and play until I gave them their meals and they would go to town! Loved those frogs!
Wow Dayyan, theyre sooooo cute! I cant wait till you build the more permanent vivariums! (I know youre struggling to find some of the needed materials due to the viral situation) It makes me warm inside knowing I suggested Cyan and Lazuli as frog names all those months ago, and now we have Cyani and Lazuli! So for these guys, I will suggest Navy, Azure. Midnight, Lapis and Royal. (Notice the blue theme again, lol)
I had a Dendrobate Leucomelas and now I am the owner of a red eyed treefrog ! I'm looking forward to have more space so I can start to own more species of frogs... yes I love frogs
I would keep them for sure, if I had the time and resources to be take care of such special creatures! For now I will learn and enjoy from your videos!
Those froglets are absolutely stunning, and so sweet. I'm going to be building a vivarium soon in an exo terra habisphere & I'm hoping to put dart frogs in it in due course.
In mid august i got 2 tinctorius powder blue dart frogs which at the time were about 3 months old (so around 7 months old at the moment)! These were my first frogs (before frogs all i used to have was some fishes), so during the first 2 months i was still getting a hang of some of the basics of keeping frogs. But i've gotten used to it and they're doing well!
I love your channel dude :) I keep a native reptile here in the uk called the zootoca vivipara and I’m currently raising 300 tadpoles rana temporaria common British frog
Thank you so much! At the time of recording, nothing was staged so I was t 100% sure. Today is only a few days later but they have been eating melos dusted with supplements ☺️👍🏼. Thank you for watching!
If I was going to keep dart frogs I'd absolutely keep this same beautiful blue species as you, Dion! Their colouration and pattern is just unreal so I adore them! If not them, I'd also love to keep mossy frogs - they're incredible, gorgeous little froggies too!❤ ....unfortunately I live in British Columbia though, where someone very misinformed about dart frogs put them on my province's 'thou shalt not enter!' list of sadness. That being said I don't think I am mentally capable of handling something as labour intensive as a dart frog anyway. 😅 I struggle with the whole idea of the feeding fruit fly thing and with my being AuDHD and grieving and figuring out my disability, I'm just way too tired for a pet like that right now. I know it probably isn't any more intimidating than my little reef aquarium and the idea of building a tiny jungle is super fun but somehow marine water chemistry is less intimidating to me than fruit flies. I honestly wouldn't mind trying a larger frog species first though, like maybe a pixie frog or milk frog (I can't remember whether either of those were legal in BC though.) My herp goal at the moment is just hopefully getting a rosy boa by the end of the year. I already have their terrarium scaped (I'm trying to recreate a desert ponderosa pine forest such as is found in Arizona which is easy given that I live in the Okanagan which has the same habitat, just northern.) Right now I'm trying to figure out a potential native plant species to keep in it that isn't a cactus and doesn't get too tall. I also plan on getting the appropriate Arcadia Lumenize light bar, then starting to grow the plant in it at least a month prior to obtaining my boa. But here's what I'm perplexed about; maybe you or another Canadian might have some insight to share? I know that rosy boas have their litters in the fall but given that rosy boas are rare in the Canadian hobby, is it even worth driving six hours to Calgary or Abbotsford in order to try to find one at an autumn expo? Or, would it be better if I just ordered my snake from a company like Tails and Scales? As a biology and vet med nerd I've got it in my head that if, after a few years I find that I really really enjoy keeping my first rosy boa, I'll get it a mate and become a breeder. I've always kind of wanted to have a breeding project of some sort but I never ethically want to contribute to pet overpopulation so the low population of these little stripey boas in the Canadian hobby feels like permission, a potential future opportunity to have fun with breeding. I'm personally a little intimidated by the size of ball pythons (especially housing-wise - a little rosy boa feels simpler and cheaper to give vestigial leg room to, plus no rats have to be involved.) Since I have Pathalogical Demand Avoidance I wouldn't do it out of any desire for monetary gain, just as a hobby, a little way to give others an alternative less scary option to ball pythons and I'd definitely have a return agreement on my babies like dog and cat breeders do so that of any of my babies ever needed rehoming I would take them in rather than see them go to a shelter. I know I must sound silly by being intimidated by the size of ball pythons, the sweetest puppy dog snakes on the planet, but some of the females are bigger than my CAT, and I know that a ball python would get its tail handed to it in a confrontation with a cat, no matter how muscley they look, but their size compared to my beloved kitties still makes me uncomfortable.😅 (Ironically the reason I like tokay geckos so much is because I feel like if one and one of my kitties were to accidentally meet - a happening which I would adamantly endeavour to prevent - I feel that the tokay could potentially defend itself. My first reptile was a leopard gecko and for each day of her 23 years I was constantly paranoid of what could happen if she met one of my cats by accident and unprotected. Diego would've been toast!) Sorry for prattling a bit; thank you, Dion, for being so caring about your animals, being such a staunch example of ethical captive breeding, and sharing your care for your pets with us. Your quiet energy and voice has a very ASMR soothing quality which calms my constantly frazzled neurodivergent mind. Thank you.❤
I would love to keep dart frogs, I have always loved the look of them. I want to research them first and have a good bio set up for them. Now to find the "easiest" care frogs
yes i would keep dart frogs but im not if i had some very good amount of money ill be having every kind of dart frogs but the money is very tight for me now
Not in captivity in the wild they eat a certain insect that eats a certain plant that is toxic without that insect they lose their toxicity so no they are not dangerous
Could you possibly in the future talk about tank care and how you keep harmful bacteria from growing in your animal's moist environment? I would love to own frogs or invertebrates that require moister environments but the thought of mold and bacteria growth scares me :'( Your tanks always looks so nice and clean!
I have a question, How do you feed your little frogs and what? when i give mine fruitflies in a container similar as yours, they all escape or sit on the lid and frogs cannot reach them. what do you suggest?
Hi amazing beautiful animals but was curious are these pretty dangerous to keep being poison dart frogs? I know you used gloves but didn’t mention anything about the poison part.
I keep dendrobates tinctorious nominate, and dendrobates auratus pena blanca. The Tincs are always out and are just fantastic pets, where as I almost never see my auratus.
About how long do you keep them in the grow out bin? I'm about to raise two dart frog tadpoles myself, and while I have experience with larger frog tadpole's, I've never done this step before.
They are adorable! I recently learned about people keeping dart frogs like this and had no idea they could live so long, or it was even a thing, but now I am seriously considering getting a few group-friendly guys, along with one crested gecko. I want to learn more about them first and start with setting up a proper enclosure for both before hand. I heard about an online breeder from another channel called Josh's Frogs that sell both dart frogs and geckos, does anyone know about them? Also, i know you breed your reptiles, but do you sell them as well? im new to the channel, and love your content!
They actually aren't! In captivity dart frogs don't produce the same toxins because they critters they'd eat in the wild such as ants, termites, etc provide them with the substances needed to produce the toxins in their skin. In fact, if you were to adopt a wild poison dart frog, it would gradually loose it's toxicity after it's diet is switched to fruit flies and springtails, etc. Thanks for watching!
I want dart frogs, and messaged u on insta, what are some good starter species that I can 3 or 5 or without much fighting, and will use the height in a 36-18-36
I'm getting Epipedobates tricolor as starter frogs from a friend of mine. He said they're very hardy and perfect for a beginner like me. He said species like Dendrobates leucomelas and auratus are also good for beginners.
I’m just in the process of upgrading my leopard geckos enclosure, and once he moves up I will have a 45cm by 30cm by 30cm glass terrarium! I originally wanted frogs but I rescued the Leo, I’m looking to put a frog in the enclosure and start my first bioactive, I’m currently thinking dart frogs because they’re beautiful!
I don’t have any dart frogs right now. I’m Watching and reading up on them before I actually bring a new type of animal into my care. Not sure really what I will get in the end but I personally doesn’t like the build on the tincs. Not sure why, I just don’t. So I’m trying to learn what the next frog on the list is that is “beginner friendly”. I Have a couple alternatives I’m looking into.
I don’t have dart frogs but I have 12 other species! Whites, tomato’s, a pixie, American green tree frogs, Borneo’s ... so much fun learning about them the longer I have them in my care. Why’s your favorite part about watching them grow?
So this might be a stupid question but poisonous dart frogs are harmful to humans so isn't it super dangerous to keep them as a pet? I never saw them kept as a pet before😯🐸
Hi Dion This vid is wonderful they are adorable, I have 3 tinctorius brazil since last November, do you know if they need some dry periods in order to mate? I wish I may form at least a couple out of them but possibly they are still a bit young in order to be able to get sex dimorfism and to mate.
Whoa, the amount of bins you have in the background reeeaaally intimidate me, then I saw you had a greenhouse/garden too... my lord! I assume this is full time?! A bloody dream if you can do this full time, but to have to work, THEN take proper care of all those critters?! No way!

I just got my first crested gecko
Should I get some kind of dart frog or red eye tree frogs?
You should get the animals you like best m! Just make sure you are prepared for them in both research, enclosure and commitment! Thanks for watching!
ive narrowed it down to bakhuis, azueles or dwarf cobalt. currently planning a vivarium with a trilevel hill/cave setup.
Great choices!
If I am not wrong these frog skins are poisonous so you don't touch it bare hands??
They actually aren't! In captivity dart frogs don't produce the same toxins because they critters they'd eat in the wild such as ants, termites, etc provide them with the substances needed to produce the toxins in their skin. In fact, if you were to adopt a wild poison dart frog, it would gradually loose it's toxicity after it's diet is switched to fruit flies and springtails, etc. Thanks for watching!
@@Reptiliatus oh thank you for the answer
Congrats!
Thank you very much!
How do you make reverse osmosis water?
Will it affect you if u touch their skin with your bare hands?
Is it possible to house the babies with the parents?
How often do you feed your 2-3 month old darts?
I want dart frogs, and messaged u on insta, what are some good starter species that I can 3 or 5 or without much fighting, and will use the height in a 36-18-36
I'm getting Epipedobates tricolor as starter frogs from a friend of mine. He said they're very hardy and perfect for a beginner like me. He said species like Dendrobates leucomelas and auratus are also good for beginners.
Thanks!! I was thinking about getting Auratus because they look amazing
I'm thinking about it. I keep yellow bellied toads ATM.
Nice!
I would love to keep fart frogs. But I just don’t know what Sp. there are so many different kinds
Fat frogs eh? 😉
I meant dart frogs*
I’m just in the process of upgrading my leopard geckos enclosure, and once he moves up I will have a 45cm by 30cm by 30cm glass terrarium! I originally wanted frogs but I rescued the Leo, I’m looking to put a frog in the enclosure and start my first bioactive, I’m currently thinking dart frogs because they’re beautiful!
I would love to have dart frogs! I’m not sure on witch type, I do like the golden ones and the ones that solid gold had 😁
Awesome!
Bruno’s Exotics gold frogs are poisonous what are u talking about bro it’s very poisonous
Green Imposter they aren’t in captivity
I don’t have any dart frogs right now. I’m Watching and reading up on them before I actually bring a new type of animal into my care. Not sure really what I will get in the end but I personally doesn’t like the build on the tincs. Not sure why, I just don’t. So I’m trying to learn what the next frog on the list is that is “beginner friendly”. I Have a couple alternatives I’m looking into.
We need an update on these guys!
Please .😁😁
I don’t have dart frogs but I have 12 other species! Whites, tomato’s, a pixie, American green tree frogs, Borneo’s ... so much fun learning about them the longer I have them in my care. Why’s your favorite part about watching them grow?
Awesome man great video I have the same dart frogs only have a big female and looking for a male to breed her but can't find one
Do you have any of those baby’s? I like the dark colors.
So this might be a stupid question but poisonous dart frogs are harmful to humans so isn't it super dangerous to keep them as a pet? I never saw them kept as a pet before😯🐸
I need these! 😫
Hi Dion This vid is wonderful they are adorable, I have 3 tinctorius brazil since last November, do you know if they need some dry periods in order to mate? I wish I may form at least a couple out of them but possibly they are still a bit young in order to be able to get sex dimorfism and to mate.
