- 1954 Wedding Gown Restoration Part 2 (2 of 2): Rhonda's mother in law wore this charming and unique gown in 1954. Wait until you see the surprise! I guess if you really think about it, if you only had ever seen a black and white photo how would you know? I can't wait to see this one restored and back to its former glory! This is my first ever two piece wedding gown and I'm so excited.

My first wedding attendance was in 1960 when I was five years old. It was a young couple at our church who also were moving into a new house across from us. Her wedding dress was a PINK ballerina length with a matching pillbox hat and veil. So fashion forward! She and her mother were expert seamstresses and always dressed smartly. My parents have passed and the homeplace sold but they still live in the same house across the street.
I got married in 1988 and my dress was a custom pink silk satin caftan.
Sweet story
I would be OVER THE MOON to find a dress like this for my wedding
Isn't it so unique?? I loved this restoration! I'm so glad it found its second chance!
Gorgeous gown! Wow, what a difference you’ve made in the life of this piece. 👍🏼😊
I too love that you found the rice. The styling of the dress I think the scallops the way it was made to be wore is beautiful,
Scallops up for proper balance. An amazing restoration. I didn't expect the yellow to come out of the lace that well, or the overgown to look so strong again. Well done you.
One of the mist veautiful dresses I've ever seen in my 61 years.
Scallops up; a gorgeous dress and after her bath so much pinker. Thank you for sharing…
As soon as you unboxed this dress my mouth dropped open! I can't believe how you were able to bring it back to it's stunning glory!
YouYou probably won't get to read this but just a comment on being a pink wedding dress. My aunty had a pale pink silk velvet wedding dress too, 1957. She tried white, ivory and several other shades. All these clashed with her pale complexion and gave her a deathly or very ill look. Even tho she was marrying into the catholic church, she chose to be daring and wore pink. Unfortunately the dress was thrown out after her death. 😢 I would have loved to restore it even tho it had 'moth' holes in it. Nobody wanted it..and it was so small that no one would have fitted in it. Such a shame as it was a very expensive item to only have been worn once. I love the way that some dresses get a whole second life thru restoration and a woman who appreciates its beauty. ❤😊😊
Magical! And your hair matches the dress - love it.
Colour wedding dresses are 🔥 I have been to a wedding where the bride wore purple. It adds more magic to the day in my opinion 😊
Beautiful and bright! Flipped down looks prettier
How I love this gown! I’d have loved this to have been my gown! I had to settle for the bridal party wearing soft pink. Just stunning - princess for sure! 💕
Gorgeous dress! Thanks for your care for this amazing Mid-Century beauty.
Love the original look, scallops up❣️
❤️🩷💞💖
Beautiful! Ohmygosh, how gorgeous! And I agree with you, I prefer the scallops down, too. It seems to brighten up the neckline. Congratulations on yet another success!
Thank you so much!
Your work is incredible!
Has the flaps up is much better. Having it down is just weird looking, no offend. Great job on restoration! It looks very pretty afterwards
OMG!!! ❤️You do amazing work! 👏 👏👏
This piece is absolutely stunning. I would have never imagined it would be this beautiful. The pink just adds to its perfection! Kudos to you!! Hopefully it will find its second chance! 🙏❤️
I really hope it will too, it's such a special gown!
My new fav channel! Omg-the grain of rice!!! That was so sweet. And how your hair matched the dress kinda. I really like how thoughtful your narrations are and how cathartic and calming to watch these restorations! Thanks!
I truly enjoy getting to know each and every dress, I'm glad it comes through in how I try to talk about them ♥️
@HobbyBobbins - new fan here … do you resell them or do you just have a gnarly collection? I’d love to see follow up videos of who they go to! Guess I’ll have to keep watching! Stunning restoration! Love that era!!!
Wow beautiful dress

Beautiful.
So sweet & fresh, ya can almost smell strawberry parfait. Scallops down is a far better look, it’s not only, not dated, it’s a classic. By far my fav dress of this year!

Awwh! The piece of rice brought A tear to my eye!💖💖💖
I just started the restoration of a 2000 dollar Maggie Sottero gown that was sold to me ridiculously cheap because it was supposed to be damaged...she isn't...she is however extremely filthy so today is day two of the process... I want to ask how diluted is the bleach? There are some black stains in the lace that are being tough...oh and the smell that comes out of those dresses is priceless isn't it? I posted pictures of what this one did when she went into her fist bath...I love a purposeful mess
Stunning
I think the dress was meant to be styled the way you had it… with the, scallops down. Looked so much better.

It is a beautiful gown
Amazing!!!!!!
In which part of the US do you live? The view outside your window and in the yard... Amazing!
Washington State ♥️
@@HobbyBobbins Wonderful! Best wishes to your family!
🥦🟦❤that was awesome
Did you keep the grain of rice and send it to the family?
I like the top part up because the pink scallops at the bust line aren’t an exact match to the dress (well doesn’t look to be) 😊
I didn’t see how you worked with the fragile top layer of organza. Was laundering all that was needed?
Did you sell that dress? You did an amazing job on the restore of it--the pink is stunning!
It hasn't sold yet but I hope it will one day soon ♥️
@@HobbyBobbinsdid it sale? If not I’m very interested!
@@justdessertsgaming7609 yes this one has since sold but please keep an eye out! Ya never know when I might get another one 🤭
@@HobbyBobbins one could always hope, I will definitely be watching!
How beautiful. Do you sell these garments? ❤
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
The beadwork on gown number one is stunning, and how well did those beads endure the restoration ?
Surprisingly well!
💖💖💖💖💖
If you will be restoring wedding gowns as a profession invest in a front loading washer. I've never had a gown fall apart or ruined in a front loader b/c it has no agitator. It uses far less water & saves energy. My front loader also sanitizes & steams my gown. Perfect every time no matter how old or stained.
It isn't about the agitator. It is about the strain to the fabric when wet. Even its own weight can be enough to shatter fragile lace when wet. Which is why I ALWAYS hand wash these types of gowns.
Lovely 😍😍🩷🩷🩷🩷
Peter Pan collar, or is it the wicked witch from Snow White collar?
To bad I didn’t see it for a year 😔
Girl wear protective gloves! Those chemicals build up being absorbed through the skin, please stay safe ❤
I want to have a fake wedding just so I can wear that.
Hopefully you are using hydrogen peroxide for bleaching the fabric. Chlorine bleach can have a detrimental chemical reaction to a variety of different fabrics and materials. Peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen leaving only the need to dry out.
I did not use bleach on this item 🙂
@HobbyBobbins
You said you bleached the stains, but didn't explain what your process was other than bleaching with a baggy in hand to isolate the area.was there something you did that wasn't explained? Thank you for responding to my post. It is appreciated.
@@oltedders oh my gosh I see what you're talking about now. I had forgotten! Yes I did use a light amount of bleach but I heavily soaked it all out afterwards and allowed the sun to help diffuse it ♥️
@HobbyBobbins
You may wish to try peroxide experimentally to see if it could become a viable stain remover in your arsenal of restoration techniques. Just a suggestion, but it doesn't have any unwanted, unforseen chemical reactions, so I highly recommend it.
Working in a bathtub also presents its own series of drawbacks , but you rose to the challenge. I've been there myself, LOL. What a great before and after in this video.
The original style is better and more unit
Scallops up
Gorgeous! Well done!👍👍👏👏🥰
Oh my goodness, I'm speechless. This is such a beautiful and unique wedding gown.🩷🩷🩷 You did a marvelous job of restoring her original loveliness and wow factor!
