I have a very anecdotal story of my own. I adopted a very red skinned, hairless, miserable Chihuahua. The second I got him I rubbed coconut oil on his skin and fed it to him 2x daily for about 3 weeks. I still feed it on and off and now he has a thick gorgeous coat

This is great imformation, when I went to the Dr. for my normal annual check up. He warned me about not taking a baby aspirin.
And my prediabetis, and the need for a Mano a gram, flue shot covid shot,
I eat about 2 to 6 PCs of fruit every day, I take 3 salmon oil a day, I put coconut oil on everything,
I told him no to all of the things above that he wanted me to do. He then wanted to put me thru a bunch of questions to see if I had dimentia,
He soon found out I didn't.
I feel like I have to protect myself from the Dr.'s
He said coconut oil would be the worst for me
    This is Kaiser,
I am 74, and a pretty healthy person except for my knee, which I was pushed down, I didn't trip on anything
I think all the Drs need to go back to school, or refer back to their ancestors, lots of countries did not have drugs they used natural ingredients to heal themselves and family,
I just love coconut oil gor a lot of things. Thank you for the added information

Dr becker, I bought your book and followed your instructions and my Great Dane/Lab boy lived till he was 16 years old. Thank you. Please make more videos . You helped me to extend his life by six years. I am thinking of having a Pomsky puppy. It has been about a year and a half since I lost Max. I really would love it if you make more videos on feeding puppies and taking care of them . I learnt from you to do a vasectomy . I learnt from you about vaccination and titer test, and raw all meat and fruits and vegetable diet and many more. Thank you again!

A very interesting discussion - one thing missing - how much and how often to feed it to our pets!
I recently started adding about a level teaspoon daily each to our dog's regular food - they happily eat it - their coats are glossier (after a month) and our very old German shepherd seems more alert and more mobile now. Coconut oil is cheap and eaten by people all over the world - so what is there to lose by trying it for our pets (and us)?? Thanks for this.

I feel most people read or hear about raw foods and all these good things but they know there are some things you have to watchout for and so they don't feel like putting the time into really sitting down and reading or watching informational videos and books about it so they can also do it for their pups and so they end up just continuing kibble instead of giving their dog the best food for them.. my dogs did a full 180 as far as energy levels and just the entire way they acted literally the next day after switching to raw food and when my wife and I noticed how fast the healthy raw food worked for them we then took all our time and dove head first into reading everything and watching everything we could about the subject because if just a simple food change did that much for them and that's just one small portion of what we can do for them then we said why not treat them like we treat ourselves ( my wife and I aren't health nuts but we take care of ourselves and don't eat junk) heck the last time we had McDonald's it gave us both splitting headaches because we eat so healthy comparably and that was when we realized just how bad certain things really are.. if our bodies tried to reject a simple fast food burger then what else were we doing to ourselves... we eat meat and dairy and etc but we just make sure we don't stuff a bunch of junk in with our food like salts and cholesterols and etc.. and we eat good food just not junk and I have been a strong believer in if I cant eat it or take it then my dog shouldn't and so we make sure anything that says not for human consumption or use we don't use on our dogs. And they are healthy energetic pups and our English lab is 14yrs old and she acts like a puppy again since the change a while back

I have been using coconut oil in my German shepherd's diet for about three years now, mostly because I saw Dr. Becker do it when she was feeding her dogs on "PETFOOleD". Hearing Carmina & Charisa explain the difference saturated fats & unsaturated fats and how oils are more prone to go rancid, was very interesting to me. I know essential fatty acids are fragile and can go rancid when exposed to light, heat or oxygen. I heard Dr. Ian Billinghurst say Rancid fats are damaged fats and damage fats can damage your dog. So, thank you Dr. Becker for this video, I have a much better understanding about Coconut oil now and will be taking it myself now.

Mexicans have had both dogs and coconuts for thousands of years. Who can say for certain that the dogs have not been getting a bit of coconut meat or the oil mixed in the food scraps they often eat. Coconuts are not new to Florida, Texas, California, Arizona and other southern states. Travel anywhere in mexico, north or south and a street vender will offer you bag of coconut water and the open coconut with the pieces of meat to eat.

The idea that coconut oil is a great nutritional replacement for long chain omega 3 fatty acids is scientifically incorrect. Coconut oil for dogs as the cure-all is a fad. I would highly recommend that you buy grass fed/grass finished ground beef for your dog that is 7 to 10% fat and serve it to your dog raw or lightly cooked at low temp to preserve the essential fatty acids. This would be so much better than feeding him cheap, species inappropriate coconut oil. I would also recommend that you give him some cooked or canned salmon to see if fish fatty acids in whole food form work. It may be that if you used fish oil sold for pets in a bottle that it was rancid or if you used capsules sold for humans they may have contained lemon oil which dogs do not like. Nordic Naturals makes a capsule for pets that can be squeezed onto food-- No lemon oil and capsule form keeps the fatty acids from the air so they are better preserved.

Really great info. I had been "sold" on coconuts in general. The water has a ton of potassium. I have heard that during WW1 or 2, Asian soldiers were hydrated with IV coconut water. My daughter had dangerously low low K+. By drinking a cup of coconut water, she was "miraculously" cured. Of course, fyi, too much can also cause hyperkalemia.

Oh boy in Florida it was coconuts everywhere on the beach. I couldn't stand the taste of it. I do know its supposed to be good for us I just can't get past the taste. Don't like olive oil either. Funny is I can eat avocados all day long and I make my lotions and use both olive oil bc it stays solid and coconut oil if I'm backed against the wall. My favorite is almond oil and argon oil. I know it's in my hot chocolate fortunately I can't taste it so I can get it down. When we were little, dogs got whatever leftovers we left on our plates so usually biscuits slices of bacon with some bacon grease. We always saved our bacon fat in the o.j. can on the back of the stove and we ate it in everything like cornbread or fried tomatoes. We were all thin and strong and I was just a healthy person. Even my doctor laughs at my cholesterol level bc I put butter in everything and it's super low. Good food.

I'm not sure how much to feed but based on my experience with how I feed my senior, medium-sized male dog (17 y.o.) which recently (last May18) can't walk because of his left back leg weakened/paralyzed and have problems with constipation, I fed him 3x a day 1 tbsp Virgin Coconut Oil (together with meals) and another 1 tbsp daily for the first 10days. Before he can't move his left back leg, but now (Day 25) he can move it (but still he can't stand) and he tries to stand on his front legs now, he hasn't problems with appetite THANK GOD! And almost a week after, he poops almost everyday..and this week (3rd week) everyday he poops...I guess VCO helps with his constipation problems too...

BDLIME. First of all I would suggest Googling in order to find the proper Doses and suggested ways to introduce the coconut orally. I have a beautiful lab that occasionally usually in the winter has problems with an itchy undercarriage due to yeast. The problem is everything that is ever suggested to use topically he immediately licks it all off which only irritates his skin. I honestly can't imagine any animals that wouldn't lick it off because it tastes good. As a matter of fact I can't even put lotion on my own body or wear makeup because Luke decides he wants to lick that all off too. LOL something else that I have used to help his skin and coat is Omega-3 tablets. Really all they are is fish oil in a capsule. The dose is on the bottle. Because they smell like fish a dog will usually just chew up the tablet. If they don't want to chew the tablet all you have to do is prick it with a pin and the oil just squeezes out. You can either just let them lick it off or squeeze it into their food. You wouldn't want to use it externally because it would be rather stinky. It's really great for dry skin, excessive shedding and really helps to give them a thick beautiful cold. I'm sorry if I came across sounding like a big know-it-all that wasn't my intention. LOL

@@dixierae6063 I had a cocker spaniel that had chronic ear infections & itchy skin, which is common for them because their ears are so heavy. We went for years with no problem, but once it started, I couldn't get rid of it for her. This was long before the big push for omega 3's & my groomer at the time recommended vitamin E. I used to give her a 200 mg vitamin E everyday. We called it her 'funny jellybean', lol. She loved them! I'd toss it to her & she'd chomp it right down like it was a treat. That little dog lived to be just short of 20 years old! The vet said crickets don't usually live that long. I often wondered if her 'jellybean' had anything to do with it.

@@lauriebennett6257 Laura what a lovely story. Yes with my dog being a lab he has those heavy ears to and so we struggle with yeast. It really is almost impossible to completely clear up. I clean his ears daily by soaking cotton balls in the low percentage peroxide and squeeze out the excess liquid. There's almost nothing in his ears but I think it goes so far down into the ear canal that you really can't get all of it out. I've tried flushing them as well but especially with yeast you don't want to get any liquid in there that you can't get out. The poor guy has gotten into the habit of barking to itch his eardrums but he doesn't realize that it's really making them worse. So we do the best we can. I think it is absolutely fabulous that you got to share 20 years with your dog. What a gift. Before I got Luke I had a Golden Retriever and she was with me for 13 and I was grateful for that. It just is not long enough. Poor thing was blind the last couple but I think it bothered me more than it bothered her. It's amazing how they adjust. Coconut oil for dogs as the latest, greatest super food is a fad and is completely illogical. No wolf ever sought out coconut oil. Dogs require the species appropriate food of wolves, their closest ancestor (and so close that they can crossbreed genetically speaking). True, a Yorkie will need his buffalo ground instead of served as a whole carcass but the nutritional balance is the same and the fatty acids that are best for a dog are determined by evolution and not by the latest fad. Another fad is to give dogs turmeric powder. Some might have medicinal properties but the latest fad is to treat all dog ailments as a numeric deficiency.
Take these illogical recommendations for dog nutrition with a big grain of salt.
