- 25-year-old Allen is a trainee accountant living in Manchester. He earns £13,000 a year, unfortunately, this is swamped by his £17,000 debt. Allen lives for socializing and extravagance, he eats out at least once every single day. Most nights of the week Allen can be found doing the rounds of the Manchester bar scene, and if there’s a party going down, you can guarantee that Allen will be going over the top.

He dances like a sim and I'm living for it
Xionsicecream 1 thank you for making me snort with laughter
@@ladylecter636 you're welcome 🙃💕
I thought the same but was too ashamed to mention it. And then your comment made my day!
I still dance like a sim and I'm not ashamed to say so 🤣
This is hilarious 😂🤣
The 'boys toys' that cost 'so much money' shows how quickly technology changes over time and is a good reminder of what a waste of money some of these gadgets are!
Joke's on you, I still have my PS3 from ~12 years ago, working like a charm
It also depends, did they get their value from using the item before its value was used up. If every gadget is seen as a waste of money, then there will be no gadgets as there will be no point inventing or making them. If his Playstation or whatever got hours of use over a few years, then it was probably worth the money he spent on it at the time

Yes single bed for kids not adults
Don’t need a double bed for most positions he’ll be doing

Not if he keeps partying like that he won't.
what ? I feel like he looks ways older than 25

yeah he will still have that welsh boyish charm.
I learn a lot from these people on not to ruin my life . It takes a village for me to buy something and I debate whether what I buy is worth it or now . I’m not a cheap person but I live quality stuff within my means . Brands won’t make me a better person , I make myself a better person
Good idea
Omg, I still cannot get over how cheap food and everything was back at that time (2008ish?). I think the UK prices were cheaper than the US too. It makes me cry thinking about food shopping tomorrow in 2023 😅
"You gonna have and eat it...cuz you've been a naughty boy" ahahahahah that naughty boy part is just too hilarious ahahaha
Looking at all that spaghetti made me so sad..you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone..
Ha ha ha
I kinda wanted to eat it, I adore spaghetti. What a waste
No accounting for stupidity but
It seems like he is trying to substitute for something missing in his life.
Agree... shopping addiction is like other addictions - he's trying to fill the void and chasing the high...
I agree, Denise. No ACCOUNTING for stupidity, eh?
A boyfriend maybe ?
Yep,i think thats a biggest reason for spending a lot of money on things you dont need
@@sawarebel Funny isn't it how a woman (Denise) recognises an addiction but has NO idea why, neither tries to put her finger on it as its all about something that affects most women but that they take for granted: Shopping. LOL. Its uncanny !!!
What a lovely lot of friends - he’s a lucky guy
Did you know that they actually do a background check on your personal finances when you get accountancy jobs? And that if you or a partner have ever been declared bankrupt you're not allowed to continue in accountancy?
Its the same in Banking, you cannot join a banks workforce if you go bankrupt.
The experts are very caring.
i love how blunt these voice over people are
Well done to jay and Benjamin for helping to turn Alan's life around
THe secret is never buy anything unless you have the cash in hand - don't book up. Remain debt free - makes life so much simpler : )
I spend alot sometimes, however I never use my over draft like ever, that's my rule. If I'm broke 2 3 weeks before payday, then I'm broke no spending for me.
Agree, I'm 27 with zero debt and life is so much easier when you're debt free. Like I actually have the money to buy the things I want because I have more money from my paycheck than other people my age who are in debt, stay out of debt and have the life you want
If you don’t have self-control over your spending - don’t use a credit card, period.
It always surprises me when these people lament the money they can’t spend anymore... because they never had that money in the first place.
They have credit cards - a means of spending. As long as they can swipe a magic piece of plastic and transform something that they want into something that they can legally have, it's all good....until the credit runs dry.
Perfectly said!!
This is hands down my favorite episode! I hope Allen is doing well these days!
🌹
Check the comments below. Allen replied with an update on his situation

£9.53 use to get you two bags! Nowadays that's 2-3 items. Damn inflation is a killer.

It's now 2 years on since your comment and you would be lucky to get a block of cheese and pack of Lurpack for that 😢
This program shows its age, Finglands buses, T68 trams and £2.40 pints on a Saturday night in Manchester
I’m glad to see these again. I used to enjoy watching them and found it very helpful. Another one was “would like to meet” where someone was given help to find a partner. Jay would style them, Tracy told them how to flirt and a lovely man called Jeremy was the confidence coach
Oh yes, I remember that show, it was good.
I’m happy I love thrift stores and enjoy wearing what I want rather then spending tons of money on clothes that are in style
he seems like a really fun guy
This looks so old fashioned now. Look at the clothes lol. I never thought the days I grew up in would look so different
That drag charity event seemed like too much fun!
Having a rave at the soundtrack, bloody brilliant!
I am watching all these shows. And each time I get the same feeling of the main character being a small child rather than an adult- no matter how old they really are
Can you imagine spending $500 a week?! On what! I wouldn’t even know what to buy if I was told to spend $500 a week for a year.
Going out can cost a lot, with a taxis, drinks, food
Colin Java maybe that’s why I’m so shocked because I’m not a clubber
i could probably easily do it. i love clothes, makeup, shoes and home decor. the difference is i am debt free and only use my credit card for large purchases i have the money for.
Not $500, 500£. And 500£ in 2006 or 2007 no less, that's more like $1000 today. It's insane, literally more than I spend in a month (although living expenses in my country are lower than in Britain)
Oh I could definitely spend it. Easily. I could spend a lot more. But I don't. It's unnecessary.
I almost started crying while watching him kayak.
Congratulations Allen🎉🎊. You’ve got this♥️
I hope Allen sees this and comments in regard to how he's done over time. Crossing fingers...
I'm still alive! Didn't know this was online until today and loving reflecting on it. I now have zero debt you'll be happy to know.

Ah, Netto.. that brings it back.. when Aldi and Lidl were becoming trendy, Netto was untrendy as ever and all the better for it. Wish they'd stayed open in the UK
benjamin creeps me out..he abandons this guy in the woods and then puts him on a kayak when he knows the guy can't swim all in some grand mission to find his inner self. if he was a real doctor or therapist that would be one thing, but the guy has no doctorate or formal training and is merely a dude calling himself a "psychological coach"
Benjamin definitely has mother issues. Because he tells everyone who has a spending problem that they’re angry at their mums 😂
@@Discombobulate453to be fair, most people prob do have at least some measure of anger towards our moms, even if we also really love and appreciate them
Abandoned him with at least one crew member with a camera and probably a sound guy too. So, hardly abandoned.

So good this was
20:52 🤣🤣🤣 I definitely gonna use that when I work and a handsome customer go in hehehehe
Cookery school! I WANNA GO!
makes me miss those Class A nights out. :)
I have something to say without even watching this...my husband died alone, a wreck of a man. Someone who made and spent loads of money in his youth...set nothing aside for his later years. Left his 4th wife and 4th known child with below poverty resources. Left a black mark behind, so no one misses him. He had the best of everything and threw it all away...just having fun...just doing what he wanted...he broke hearts and lives. And die a long rather awful death in a nursing home after doctors refused to see him anymore, because there was nothing left to help him.
I see the U.S. where I live doesn't have a monopoly on stupidity.
Mark Youneva you’re absolutely RIGHT! 👁👄👁 There’s no option... just stupidity.

I wouldn't be surprised if Allen also was on "Booze Britain" reality type show on YT !!!!
So different in the US. Unless a debt is secured (e.g. car or house) the only thing the creditors can do is sue you and/or ruin your credit. We don’t have bailiffs to can your stuff.
Your wages can be garnished, along with your bank accounts locked, depending on the law suit. But then again, i don't think a bank will give you an unsecured loan.

I can hear the Stewie in him.
What was that noise at 37.53? Sounded like bitty
So we learn Allan is 'from a very small Welsh town'

How do you even get £17,000 worth of debt on £13,000 a year?
I’m surprised it’s not more.
Back then banks would throw money at anyone with a half decent credit rating and a regular income. Then came the crunch.
Check the episode called "she thinks her debt is a joke" or something like that. It has a woman with less than 10000£ a year income and 50000£ of debt. Now THAT'S crazy

Why do you need to buy clothes every month?
Exactly. I spent 0 dollars on clothing in 2020 and 2021. I spent 75 dollars on clothing this year 2022 (a pair of trousers, a pair of walking shoes, a t-shirt, and a part of running shoes).
Live your best life Allen yay!!!!
21:50 his friend sounds like a dying pac-man
All these free haircuts and free booze in pub is not sustainable. Infact he's not gonna get free drinks everytime he goes to a bar and he was given free haircut and hair products just because they were on television. These financial guides should be realistic and teach him more sustainable ways to save money, not just to satisfy their viewers.
I think the point is to know oh I cant have these things I know how I want to prioritise my money but all his friends and people around just gave in. They're just enabling they need to say no
They did it for him, for the show, to help him out that week. That won't last.
Where is Allan now?

He needs to focus on becoming a qualified accountant and behave like a mature man not a 16 year old party animal
Woman expert: "Do you have any idea why we've covered your table with pasta & meatballs?"
Man: You're showing off your appetiser before main course?
Life is beyond parties and drinking and a 13k per annum is not sufficient for social animals.
25? Pull the other one! :P
kek23k Oh, I bet you say that to all the boys...
Allan is hella flamboyant. Dyam.
Billy Metokur Most people of the jolly persuasion are.
I’m pretty sure everyone knew he was gay, they were just waiting for him to come out of the closet.
Not necessarily, a lot of gays that are in the closet actively avoid acting like a gay (and on the other hand, openly gay people purposefully act in a flamboyant manner, like he does in the video, because it's considered a part of gay culture). Maybe people close to him suspected but not everyone he knew
Yeah I thought this.
Plus you don't know how he actually acted before he came out, as the other person said about being gay is partially true, but not all gay dude behave what most might consider girly

Yeah around 2005
Interesting he equates his life with money and lack of money with loss of life.
Is it common to only make like $15000 in the UK? That is crazy low compared to the US average.
