Isn't it obvious that he should move to a ski town, work as a chef at a restaurant there & be a ski bum for a few years? He would be in heaven & with his cooking skills, he can get a good job.

I don't really see the point in doing cold turkey if friends pay for the person. It's about realising if you can live without some of these non essential stuff like going out to eat. He really should think of going away for a year right now and earn some money at a place where he can do snowboarding as well. Stop spending money on anything non essential for that year and save up to pay his mum back all he owes and start saving up for whatever he wants to do next. Interesting to know what happened since this was filmed

i can't say i would like bloody meat that bleeds into my "chips," but i CAN say that meat should be more "fairly" priced for all of the resources it utilizes and all the ways it destroys the planet. if it were "fairly priced," it would be like a nice "treat" or just something to use in smaller amounts, which is much healthier for all of us anyway!
i know other people (obviously!) have other opinions which is fair because i am not the only person with opinions in the world! but that is my opinion. in all fairness, i also believe we should all try to grow as much of our food as we can - this year has been my start to that end so i have a very long way to go toward that!
aside from the "opinions" about food, i second all of the comments that he should just move to a "ski town" or more snowy, mountainous area! he could even be an instructor and maybe start his own business by doing so - maybe something like a cozy lodge or something!
also, as per the gin and tonic, why doesn't he just buy a nice big bottle of gin and his own tonic water which here is under $1 and make his own drinks? that would be LOADS cheaper!!! also, are cigarettes really that cheap in the uk?!?! and if he is trying to portray this "healthy snowboarder" kind of image, he really should lay off the smokes!! that in and of itself would save him a small fortune!
oh dear, this is another terribly long comment. but one suggestion for anyone who owes their parents money for whatever reason; pay it off in monthly amounts. my mother helped me get out of debt awhile ago when i was very very sick, and i repay her to this day every month. totally fair and something that will not destroy your budget nor the budgets of any parents!
