Idk so much the first scene feels like he’s trying to teach her a lesson, but she doesn’t fully accept it. And then the following scene as vader seems like he’s actually trying to prove it to her by trying to kill her, and it works.

I think I finally figured out what he meant by live or die. So in rebels when he fights her, she says she won’t leave him this time and he says “then you will die”. Since her guilt of leaving him has held her back, she now needs to learn that she can’t blame herself for his fall and needs to forgive herself and “live” rather than be chained to the past and “die”. So it’s more metaphorical than literal
