- Mat and Yianni are at it again! This time it's Audi RS3 vs... Audi RS3?! Mat's pulled together the latest version of Audi's famous hot hatch alongside the previous generation to see whether the recent emissions regulations will harm the performance of Audi's all-new hot hatch. They're both powered 2.5-litre 5-cylinder turbo engine that produces 400hp and 480Nm of torque, but will the regulations make a difference?! There's only one way to find out... LET'S RACE!

I love this episode. This one is very particular from doing 0-60, following the standard of repeating the experiment and a normal rolling race. Changing the variable of the driver in term of mass. Not only that, included as well a dyno which we can clearly see the end result of all the test. You should do more of this in the future.
Yanni weighs 111 kgs and Matt weighs 70 kgs. So here we can at least see how much Weight reduction effects acceleration.
And 30 kg glass roof on 2017.
Considering how fat cars have become, it doesn't really matter anymore.

Try it with the S3’s. They have been reduced by 10bhp on the new 2019 models.
Same with the Golf R as well, was 310...back to 300 again but with filters added now. I wonder if it's the same effect - earlier peak torque but drops power at top end.
Lz a slight tune and performance air filter would sort that right out.
Who cares? The RS3 sounds so good it makes you forget about a pumped up 4-cylinder, shared with so many other VAG cars, in various HP levels... 😝😎
@@milinddixit6583 later peak torque with an earlier rev limiter that is in coordination with timing belt system. That's why there is 10bhp less.

@@FireZtorM_GT Even hearing the explanation about the decrease in power due to the filter, with lack of air and what-not being magnified at speed - That was an early shift. He was in 5th fear for what? 5 seconds? There is no way he maxed out that gear. Not even close! And if you can't hear that, that's on you!

On 9:47 I think Yannie changed gear too early which why Mat's car manage to pull away, u really need to check that cause it really effect the car performance!!

The 2019 short shifted in the rolling race, which affected its acceleration significantly. Up to that point they were dead even, which is exactly what the dyno also shows.
Love the fact that you gyus are having so much fun while filming... Tbh thats why I watch them videos :)

That's one of the best most informative videos I have seen. The new 2019 RS5 has a lighter engine. However the older videos showed the RS3 at 12.2 pretty consistently. Particulate filter shows its' effects too. Bottom line, either software tune and exhaust or just a software upgrade would help both a lot through some of those low spots.

Good spot. Also thought as much watching it for the first time. It was really just the one gear and it explains why the 2017 surged ahead so aggressively at that high a speed when it had looked pretty even up until then.

He was in the 2019 model then, and as the dyno showed later it kind of dies out at higher rpm. Perhaps he suspected that and tried shortshifting for that reason. But yeah it was a tad too early

Very good video. I'm currently trying to decide which one to buy. I can't believe you didn't do a noise comparison. Please can you do another video on New VS Old cars when effected by WLTP regulations. RS3, Golf R, A45 to name a few. Make sure you include the comparison on how they sound!

The main issue isn't acceleration, but ten years later when the GPF (Gasoline Particle Filter) and EGR valve has clogged up with sot and you need to pay €3,000 to get it out of limp mode.

Love this video, i hope this applies for the S3 models too, can you do a video on that? I have a 2019 S3 and something similar happens when i race my friends 2018 S3. In my opinion, it should've been a best of 5 in the drag race and swapped cars each time, and the same for the rolling race as it appears Yanni short-shifts at 9:46. Also you could've weighed the cars beforehand as it appears the 2017 RS3 has a panoramic sunroof and roof racks which would've increased weight. Something else I've noticed with you guys racing RS3s is that I've seen a different RS3 do the 1/4 mile in 12.2 seconds on this channel, so that car should've also been featured in this video as well as 0.3 seconds is a substantial gap in drag races; did that car have any upgrades that increased performance?

Just wondering if you could try a audi a3 3.2 v6 turbo or r32 against the new rs3 as by the time you build the 3.2 it's about the same cost. However even stage one should be a bit quicker.

@@webfreakz Its not really about the quarter mile times or 0 to 100 times. The dyno perfectly told why something happend in that drag race, camera work was the only thing needed here.

The older RS3 also has a panoramic roof which in itself adds about 30 kilos
But once Matt is in the car, it makes it equal. Matt + roof = 100kg odd, Yianni is already 100kg or more.

The Rs3 2019 have different ECU map to compensate a restriction of PPF, have same horsepower like Rs3 2017 but the map is different, because if you take a PPF in RS3 2019 have more horsepower, more torque and more economic (L/100km).

@@eliasm1406 No, the grey hatchback 2017 rs3 they raced also ran a 12.2. And the 2019 rs3 previously ran a 12.7. I think it's a bit too convenient that the fast 2017 rs3 all of a sudden is slower while the 2019 slow one is faster. Probably tuned up/down a bit by Audi to ensure similar performance for this test so people still want to buy the new rs3.
Else, the 2017 model would have won this test very clear, by half a second or so, and Audi obviously don't want that.

carwow how about racing Mercedes C63S (2017) vs C63S (2019). Many owners sad the older car feels louder, but I’m not sure that is quicker. Maybe race 2 sedans, or 2 coupes. What do you think? It would be interesting for sure.
