      Is it just me or do some people still not understand the point of ytp? Say you've memorized a king of the hill episode, someone edits that with the whole joke being "you expected hank to say/do x but y happened" + inside jokes/meme references. I remember being in high school thinking the adults who liked Monty Python but didn't laugh at "mama luigi leaves the stove on" were comically more illogical as the poops themselves. Don't be comparing *satire/spoof of actual content- spoofed through video editing software, sometimes drawing from elements of surrealism* with mlg trash or adhd made gibberish. It used to be that people who understood ytp were either super nerdy or smoking weird stuff, but the same can't really be said about the other things.

    i really don't think that this generation is screwed. it's just that we're experiencing problems specific to our generation, and this time it involves something that doesn't immediately threaten our safety. but the thing is that humanity has consistently come together to fix itself in its darkest days and always come back a little stronger. this may seem overly optimistic (and i will admit that there are times where the world could've litearlly ended) but just compare the state of the world like 100 years ago to now. it's not perfect but it's a lot better, and it's really a blessing that one of the the biggest problems (at least in america) in our generation is that we spend too much time on tic tac. the montreal protocol is a perfect example of how everyone came together to fix the ozone layer so the sun doesn't burn us or something, and if we can do that, then we can, and will, stop this social media from rotting our brains out

    It's important to not be all doomer about this shit though! For example, many kids who are not yet fully matured will most likely recover their attention span as they age. I guarantee that a lot of people in this comment section and in general people who are like 18-24 right now had similiar addictions in their teenage years, when the internet really got big. Sure, we and Gen Alpha are suffering long-term consequences from our extremely high exposure to the internet at an early age, but look at us now. You reading this means you are atleast aware of the problem because you can retrospectively recognize your media consumption as an issue. And I have no doubt in my mind that if we keep pointing to this problem of inattention, misinformation, social media dogma and in general "brainrot", we as a society WILL help these young kids be more mature, more active, mentally healthier and in general happier.

    Siah I swear to god I made a video about this 5 months ago and thought I was the only one who seen this issue, I've been grinding since I was 13 doing videos and never understood the algorithm. I constantly do reaction videos and get no views unless I view them myself so Tiktok was the only key platform I saw as a gate to lead people to my channel. Over the past two years, I've told my viewers on tiktok countless times to follow my channel if they wan to see more, and all they'd do is like the video and swipe. Shit makes no sense, UA-cam and content is my dream and It'll always be on hault due to this generations attention span. But im glad I could find someone with the same view of this void as me.
    You got ppl out here shaking ass and getting 3k live viewers
    Or ppl doing simple boring shit and getting 2k-5k viewers
    But then you look at those that have talent and personality (Could be the next Markiplier or Coryxkenshin) and they get shat on by viewers attention span.

    I think it's a combination of a lot of stuff coming together, social media the way it's used nowadays, internet and culture too.
    People are actually disinclined to partake in longer formed content, even when it still does well, because compared to short form content it's easier for everybody and gives the fulfillment of finishing a video, and this generation is being raised to prefer a summary over the story and moving on. It's ironic, it makes you feel like you're saving time, which makes you more likely to keep scrolling.
    It isn't just social media, it's how everything is going. Everybody wants to remake the mona lisa nowadays but instead of learning to make art they just wanna read an AI summarize how to be an artist, and when they fail, they'll just eventually we will get to the point of utter brain rot farmed by our own tech lol. Tiktok and shit also give the platform fomo in the way the it is designed same with yt shorts, they take advantage of how phones are designed and it's not coincidence phones were made to have larger screens and no keyboards, engagement is far more important than practicality, in order to keep the scrolling from ever ruining immersion is the key. It's not like opening a new tab and going onto a forum even, it's like being handed a montage of everything you think you want. Then not doing or going to that thing.
    In conclusion as I could go on and on, it's created a very loner producing society giving us echo chambers and dopamine highs for our specific tastes all funneled into the easiest stream of content/ads that preys on people most prone to things like fomo, attention issues and now raising the younger generation to be the permanent target audience lol.
    I'll actually go further on to say, I do not see long winded streamers doing well in the future. That is sitting and doing a thing for many hours all day live even if competitive streamers. It just isn't gonna work unless you're already at the level of never needing to work again. People would rather tune into a highlight of a podcast than the whole podcast, and I think streaming in the future will consist of people doing 2-3 hour streams depending on content and making videos. I think if I was smart I would release episodic content, including with streaming, on a less frequent basis but hits hard each time. Again unless I wasn't doing it to grow or make money, and just for fun of course.

    • @The-Legend-of-P
      @The-Legend-of-P 2 місяці тому +2

      Good read lol and I couldn’t agree more. Idk if my generation wad like this as kid (I’m assuming so) but I don’t think it was ever THIS bad. Going off the summary thing and how they only want the AI easy spark notes version, is that it’s translated to how they speak and act and move. They don’t even wanna put the work in when speaking to someone or reading a book. The word delulu just pisses me off beyond belief. It’s such a weird thought process and is “if you can get a book summary in 60 seconds then why ever read a book?”

    • @The-Legend-of-P
      @The-Legend-of-P 2 місяці тому +2

      The Mona Lisa example is golden and this was a good read. I just don’t like how they want a summary of everything now. Even when they speak and act and engaging in stuff, they only want the spark notes summary. Das fine and all but they don’t ever apply any of that content. The weirdest ones are the history ones that explain random people from history from some AI generated look alike that just AI voice retells their Wikipedia page.

    • @Luzlec
      @Luzlec Місяць тому +2

      @@The-Legend-of-P Appreciate you read my thoughts, thanks for sharing yours as well, and yeah it's the lack of application I think worries with advancing tech that is gonna make us less likely to ever care or frankly need to have certain skills that we take for granted, along with the utter bloat of information in this day and age. While we all love having this huge amount of information at our fingertips, the other side effect is information overload, misinformation and a decrease in information literacy.
      I also don't think it's just a generational thing, if my generation grew up during this shit we'd end up down the same routes. Plus I've seen boomers at work try to use a computer they'd be cooked too lmao. I was just lucky enough to be a teen right before internet took off like this. For me the internet was a secluded place, as a kid I spent 98% of my free time wandering in the woods, hanging by the river, looking for random shit to do with my posse of bros lmao, building tree houses, digging caves, random ass stuff outside and just doing activities that would require interactions with other kids, adults, people constantly.
      - Even when we gamed, it wasn't online, so all your buds came over to play mario party or super smash whatever it was on the nintendo.
      So I don't intend to shame the younger generation, if anything I actually feel for em not gonna lie but it's kind of well I don't wanna be dramatic, it's very cyberpunk-y seeing little kids with phones in their hands for hours upon hours. Growing up living vicariously through other people, growing up like that has to make you lose grounding. But I get it, it's a lot easier to watch a content creator play a video game than ever playing it yourself. See I would just buy a guide as a kid, they skip that step and just watch the whole game. That said, I'm also old enough to get why you would give a kid an ipad to keep your kid busy, hopefully doing a game on there at least to get them engaged or thinking.
      All in all tech is a great thing and advances us, the side effect being this false notion of virtual distance. Why go to your buddies house when you all just connect online? Why watch tv with the family, when we all have our own favorite shows we can watch privately by ourselves? This is why still to this day, I get together with the homies, partners and we watch a show we all vote on. Sitting down together with people and all experiencing something, anything, it can be a show, movie, or just an experience in general in real time is what grounds us. It's like how a movie theater experience just fills the atmosphere and gives this mood, everybody all sharing the same experience together.

      @@Luzlec are you a millennial? Cause your childhood sounds like my uncles or dad (dads 50 and uncles 30 sum) and they grew up with n64 Og xbox, etc. even my brother who’s 24 now had friends over on Friday’s after school, they walked back from middle school and played games until nighttime. Wasn’t online like I have now where it’s across states/oversea friends, but actually sitting down playing 8 player smash on the Wii or something. I’m kinda worried what’s gonna happen next cause I clearly remember a kid in my highschool spending all day and all of class and lunch on his iPad on discord. Just texting his friends in a discord chat while in school. And that was 8 years ago so I only imagine how it is now with every kid having a computer and iPad since birth.
      To further your point cause I really like what you said at the end. Technology is supposed to bring us together. It’s what social media has done. There’s going to be negatives from everything and weirdos in everything, but that doesn’t mean the positive effects aren’t there. It does seem a lil cyberpunk-y and some other dystopian book I read but blanking on the name, but the bad doesn’t undermine the good it does. The bad is just all we’re seeing because the media and social media only shows the bad. Never the good. Ik in schools they have restrictions on apps, and search engines like safari to stop kids from playing games or looking at porn on school tablets. Granted they have there own phones and safari’s but the stuffs somewhat in place
      Social media is just the place to get together now. Instead of going to the woods for you or walk into town, they have there phones. And If I’m a parent today you know 100% I’m giving my kid an iPad to give ME some freedom and alone time. But I don’t think parents really know how to parent anymore. The iPad is such a crutch that they just use it whenever. Another uncle of mine has an 11 year old son and he’s just on games all the time now. Maybe my uncle should watch tv with him. Or offer to actually spend time with the kid doing something on the internet or together so you’re still engaging with them and being “together” like you said.
