Loved this. As a 19-year old in the late 60's, hiking the Grand Canyon was first on my list, which is now known as The Bucket List. I spent the night at the Phantom Ranch and came back the next day. I have since partially walked the Bright Angel Trail several times. Of the dozens of national parks I have been to, Grand Canyon is still one of my favorites.
Man, you are brave! a mule named Skidmark? ah heck no. ha ha. Although the story of these rides says there have been ZERO incidents since it's inception in the late 1880's

Thank you for sharing this video with us!!!! We are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon at some point. I’ve wondered about the mule rides offered at the Canyon, but never knew anyone who had tried it. Now I have a sense of what it’s like. It is an absolutely gorgeous trail!!! The mules are incredible, wondered how many times they’ve gone up and down those trails. They sure are sure-footed! Maybe I’ll muster up enough nerve to try it 🥴
I've been to the Grand Canyon 3 times and marvel at the views! But I have to admit, your views were much better! I will never be able to do what you did, because of an imbalance disorder, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing! Personally, I thought the music was very fitting! Thank you again! ❤🌵🐎❤
Fantastic video! I've hiked it twice many years ago, and was impressed with the calm, steadiness of the mules, but I never wanted to ride them. Still don't but love this presentation. Thanks!
Great review of what the trail ride is all about. For those of us who have seen the mules lined up at the top of the canyon but did not have the time nor the reservation to ride, we now have an idea of what it was like. Disregard any negative comments. The 40 thumbs down are from those who wish they could be there, those that are dissatisfied with their lives but make no effort to improve themselves and want everyone else to share in their misery. For the animal rights crazies, mules were bred for this type of work and can handle it with ease.
I agree. Yep, this is what mules do. It's a piece of cake for them. I have seen the mules over at the stables a number of times. They are better fed and have better medical attention than a lot of humans.
I love mules ever since i rode my uncled mule in mexico he is a 22 year old and super smart docile and strong plus he loves me cause i spent hours just being around him
I never realized that the Bright Angel trail is so rugged with holes and rocks. I have only seen it as it starts off from the rim. My legs would never take the punishment. I often thought of taking the mule train. The mules are awesome. Thanks for posting, this was well done.

I did the Mule ride in 1989 but only to Plateau Point and back - incredible experience, and when I arrived back at the Grand Canyon Village I had what I still believe to be the best Coke float I’ve ever had..😋! LLAP 🖖!

I did this trip to the phantom ranch about 20 years ago. What an awesome experience and amazing views. And that river water was the coldest water I every felt.
My Dad and I went to the bottom of the canyon on mules when I was about 12. ( 40 yrs ago) It was so much fun! Although, it was 120 degrees out and I did not drink enough water. Back then, only the leader had a canteen for everyone to share. We only had a drink when he decided to stop. Once we reached the bottom, we were waiting to be assigned our cabins. I past out from heat exhaustion. They got me to our cabin and gave me water. I slept the entire night 😢 In the morning I was fine and was able to enjoy a wonderful breakfast with our group. 😊
I've wanted to do this for a long time but I have a very healthy fear of heights. This video gave me so many visceral gut reactions, I'm not sure I could do it. I did some research ... apparently (as of this date 11/21/17) no one has died on a mule ride but there have been several injuries all involving the mule stumbling ... one of the people involved in one of those incidents said, "it's only a matter of time" until someone goes over the edge. lol ... you're welcome; and absolutely, but that's because I spend a lot more time in a car than on a mule
