Thank you for this nice summary. I did this hike three weeks ago. It is fantastic. But it is harder than I expected. I do 6-7 thousand feet per week in my work outs, and it was still really hard.
Well done. I am now too old now, but I would of loved to do that hike. I have done Angels Landing in Zion national park. Not as long as rim to river. Great video.
For completeness, I would have appreciated an acknowledgment of the “River Trail” intersection with the South Kaibab as an option to bypass Phantom Ranch.
Sure, but I would never encourage someone to skip the bridges-they're epic! Still easy to bypass Phantom after crossing the river. I'm a big fan of the River Trail, though. Standing on the north side and looking at that cliff face, you'd never know there was a trail up there. Incredible!
I love the information you provided, I plan to do this hike in mid June 2024. I wonder what month you did this hike? What time of the day you leave phantom ranch? I love the shade along the trail from silver bridge to Indian garden. I want to time my hike so that I can see some shade like you did in here. Thank you
June will probably be rough. Please use our Grand Canyon Shade Tracker at our website, brightangeloutfitters.com. It will show you EXACTLY when and where you will have shade on the day of your hike. The video was probably in August. I would have left Phantom right as the sun was setting, but that was before we had the Shade Tracker. It's magic!
Best time is very subjective, but I'd say November to December (before the first big snow) because you're all but assured pleasant temps at the bottom. Even October can still be hot. The summer months are very tough, but it's typically doable year-round. As for gear, the lighter the better! Layers, water, a filter (water can be unreliable), electrolytes, snacks you know you'll want to eat, flashlight/headlamp (just in case), ibuprofen. I always pack too much and regret it!
I wear Altra Lone Peak trail runners. However, I have done Rim2Rims in running shoes, just like you! It's of course dependent on the terrain-running shoes obviously don't have the best traction, but the comfort is a pretty fair tradeoff!
All dependent on your personal pace, of course, but for Rim2River I'd put the median at somewhere between 10-11 hours. Some are much faster, some are much slower. Under seven would be a very fast hiking pace.
Excellent video. One of the best of the many that I have seen. Thank you.
Thank you! 🙏

Can confirm. Never what I'd call "easy," no matter how many times I've done it. Congrats on a fabulous accomplishment! 💪
Great video with loads of useful information. And I bought the Rim2Rim pack!
Thanks so much for your support! Please join our Grand Canyon Hiker Dude Show Facebook group for tons more information. We're here to help.
The logistics of not having to figure out shuttles and cars and stuff makes this more appealing than Rim to Rim
There is definitely an argument for that! It's easier for sure-especially if you taxi to South Kaibab.

I doubt you're too old! 💪
Great information sir. Thank you. This is my end of year goal. 👍🏽👍🏽
You got this! Let me know if I can help in any way. 👊
people always so bright eyed and bushy tailed walking down

@@GrandCanyonHikerDude thank you! The shade map super helpful.
Awesome! Do you have a recommendation for gear list for doing this in a day? And what’s best time of year to hit this. Thanks! 😊

What kind of shoes do you wear. I prefer running shoes for all summer hiking.

Approximately how long did this take you?

How mandatory would u say hiking sticks are?
99%. If you choose to be in the 1%, there's still a good chance you'll regret it. The downfall is in the downhill.
