Great vid that summarizes the problems with this community. I started voting in CYL4 always supporting Felix and we also received a ton of shit too just cause he was a 3H character and ugh I still remember the absolute toxic shitstorm after CYL7 when no 3H characters won. It would've been fine if people were happy cause characters from their fav games won but nope, let's shit on 3H fans even more. That made this year's results all the more satisfying
I'm not a huge fan of Felix but I did love how after time skip he became really chill. That in contrast to how brash he always was made him stand out from other "edgy swordsman". Glad he won and hope they do right by him.
“Recency bias” was disproven year 1 when only Celica placed in CYL2 after SoV released. People just don’t accept that FE3H has legitimately the most popular cast, I called Engage sweep not happening. I really only expected Ivy or Yunaka to win but not both, and maybe Diamant would place, I was surprised that none of that happened. I think it’s fine to have opinions, it’s fine to be disappointed with who won, it’s even fine to spite vote and rally, its just not ok to do that personally, I don’t like Alfonse, and I wish he hadn’t won because I think he’s more boring than plain bread, but I don’t hate Alfonse fans, I don’t take that out on them, and I feel like I can voice that opinion without any vitriol. Cyl8’s winners were no one I voted for, but that just means the round wasn’t for me. The thing is I feel that for as long as it’s been happening people don’t really realize that CYL has always been low-key pretty lazy in their designs, every one of them is pretty blatantly derivative, Yeah Alm and Celica are neat, but even they re-use designs, they’re wearing their own clothes it’s just novel. I think for me it’s when they simply take a promotion a character gets and use that that annoys me the most, because I want to see a character in a role they haven’t shown yet, but so many of them do the same thing they’re typically allowed to do. In the early years it was enough for a character to be using a different weapon type and for that to be novel, but now weapon type’s barely matter, and a lot of characters have gotten alts that have them doing something they’ve done before. Although even saying that, it’s also clear that sometimes they just aren’t that imaginative, Soren, Marth, Tiki and Every FE3H character, even Marianne because even though Requiem dance is neat, she matches range and movement type with her only alt and they didn’t even give her blutgang or a mount which was one of the biggest snubs that any CYL character has gotten. The speculation over alt outfits has also gotten dry because I think people noticed the design formula. In order of priority it’s something like; 1. Unrepresented promotion 2. Character’s family member, 3. Unrepresented design 4. Something original It’s never something wild, it’s basically just an alternate idea for a legendary version of a character. Imagine if Alfonse was based on Lif, Felix was an armor with the Aegis shield, Bernadetta was like an assassin in reference to Yuri, or a Mage to reference Hubert, or a swordsmaster to reference Felix lol, and Robin was like, a dark flier. Or referenced Chrom or Lucina. Instead everyone is pretty confident that it will be axe Alfonse, Bow Bernie, Sword Felix and Tome robin.
I'm going to mention, that while Byleth is technically an in-game outfit, at least the choice of in-game outfit is a flavorful one instead of being just her Advanced Class; she is using an outfit that in the actual game was intented to be sort of family-themed, because the outfit is based on Sothis, in fact, I believe that is the outfit that we see the Sothis statue uses, when she was a full goddess instead of a fragment. Also Gullveig's design IS NOT a in-game outfit, is actually based on family... sort of, is based on Seithr, but I definitely agree that is disappointing that B!Gullveig wasn't able to affect the actual story, though, I find funny how pretty much everything related to the CYL7 Brave Heroes besides the Story Chapter was centred on B!Gullveig, she was the main plot point of the Forging Bonds, and the NoA explanation for their mechanics had a lot of time shenaningans jokes. Besides this, I definitely agree that the event can be better, both from the Developers and the players side; while I like a lot of main characters, after Edelgard's victory in CYL4, I actually got a lot more attached to vote for secondary characters, I voted for Nino, Tiki (I was part of the CYL6 Support), Sophia and Bernadetta (I actually went full Bernie this year funny enough). I'm planning to go full Nino next year, she slipped from her comforable position in the Top 20 this year, but she is still not far behind, let's go Nino!
I didn't need to go past the characters section to be able to see this video is very not fair in arguments. First off, I have no reason to hear you talk about fallacies when your first section outside of intro is a giant No True Scottsman, and that is the event's fault to you. You would explain it's a popularity type contest among the community, you expect there to just not be a concrete winner? Also explains why main/leading characters reach the top. Second, I will call you dishonest, leaving out very specific parts. For one, you give Gullveig a pass as major, and Gatekeeper only gets a sly mention. Dog, THE COMMUNITY DID IT FOR A MEME. Also explains Camilla because at the time, IS pushed a lot of Camilla variants beforehand, so the community voted Camilla in order to protest (I recall backfire, but still) the Camilla saturation. The other major thing that is dishonest for the avatar rant, specifically when you say the avatars are more plot devices of sorts than customizable, if I recall. The entire plot of Awakening has your avatar becoming Grima. And you excuse Robin, and Shez. The Robin alone is dishonest. Thirdly, the random biased rant (by your admission), when you shit all over Roy for not being unique (despite coming out before Blazing Blade introduced his father properly), and provide a large amount of random characters you feel should be legends personally. Two of them are not in the game already, and also about as random as the Metoday you say negatively in this section. The final thing that I find problematic is set up very early on: You know it's a community driven poll. You are upset that the results are skewed towards major/leading characters. All the characters on the CYL? Popular with the community. You'll find lots of art for a bunch of these characters listed, regardless of roles, so it makes sense the community would go for them. Not helped by your No True Scottsman built entirely on the viewer ignoring that you let slip (for a pin for later moment) vaguely that THE CHARACTERS YOU PICK CANNOT BE PICKED AGAIN, meaning "you really think these are the favorites of the vast majority of the fans" leaves out that they cannot pick their favorite characters again, or at worst, whoever all voted for prior winners just should not participate, which is ironic with applauding Gatekeeper, ya Gatekeeper. In conclusion, the rest of the video could be all better, but I have no reason to believe any of that with how poorly it is so early on. Very dishonest points and straight up using fallacies yourself when the entire video is blaming CYL for being full of fallacies, and you go on to claim tribalism? For a community popularity vote? In your next section? Honestly, it looks a lot like YOU are the fallacy. I hope you can make better moving forward, but this is just really really bad, my guy. I'm sorry.
MFW I vote for panne every year, knowing full well that I will never see her crack top 100. But a man can dream.

Pretty much everyone I know just votes for characters they like just for the CHANCE of their favorite getting an alt in the "runoffs"
Only productive thing left in the event
feh slander???? WWWWWWW
