A little bit past the 2 minute mark, when Rahsaan's tenor begins to sing, and cry... It's glorious. Can't help missing him all over again as I hear this.... like I did the first time in my teens when he died... or in Brother Ah's phrasing, when Rahsaan became an ancestor. Yes he said it right: one of the miracles of the tenor saxophone, Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

His overall approach is totally individualistic and alarmingly beautiful....as good Jazz is supposed to be. He's in the the Pantheon with Mingus, Ornette, Sun Ra, and all the others, including Monk, who dared to stretch the boundaries of European theory and further expose the essence of the Human Soul....

Better watch this in low quality, tone and picture are asynchronous in hi quality - don't know why.

Did you know: if Rasaan Roland Kirk had had a 3rd arm, he could have played 2 saxes, a flute & a kazoo at once while simultaneously building housing for all of the world's homeless? Hero.

Grant Green was not a big fan of Tod's thing...at least at the keystone show I saw...Tod's sprinkler system of sounds...
