I did not think that Mike looked like a child when he broke down crying! It is also NOT a weakness to cry. It's a strength to show real raw emotion & be moved compassionately for another's pain. People need to stop thinking crying is BAD. especially for men.

I know you are speaking of Scientology, but you are describing what it is like inside a narcissistic family. I was raised in a Bible teaching church, the parent puts on an image of faith but at home it is a cult which you completely described. My mother was another great story teller. I was raised with a distorted view of God and was raised with a fear of others except for the one who controlled me. If you questioned anything, you would be put to shame or made to think crazy. All this while raised in a good church.

    • @Iknowurconfused

Thanks, the first cult is the family not the faith!! Your so right, I think the family distorts the teachings for more control, as an ex JW it was nice and the people were nice but my mom was an unholy terror, but they're so stuck on cults it's all they see!!

Total cult. I went for the next program up and stopped there. They make you do the staring game, it was super awkward. And they basically keep you for 10hrs for 3 days each day, by the end of it your a zombie from lack of sleep, because they send you home with phone assignments. Only to tell you at the end of the third day the 'BIG' secret they've been holding over your head all weekend is that "it's all empty and meaningless". Basically you can make up your own meaning. There were more sketch things. Their coach's/presenter's were so sharp, so on que, so confident, so inspiring it was hard not to be in awe. Like a performance. I didn't get suckered in but my friend did for years.

The idea of scientology is incredibly interesting to me. With the Abrahamic religions, there is some basis in christianity; they can say "the Bible is talking about xyz in this passage/prophecy/verse." Same with more ancient religions, such as Hindu or Native American spirituality, where people agreed to made up explanations for the unknown physical world that lasted thousands of years. Scientology is 100% the words of L. Ron Hubbard. It is based on absolutely made up stuff from 1 guy, with no way to possibly verify his stories. Even as Christians, we believe that God has provided significant corroboration throughout history to point to Himself as the one true God. For scientologists, what is it that corroborates Hubbard's words?

@42 He talks about still believing after leaving. This is SO common. I followed the new agey guru Adi Da Samraj, as an official vow taking devotee (ie. my vow to him is for all lives present, future AND PAST!). He's known under many names, and for good and bad, including as a "sex guru". I left, was totally disgusted by his organization, but for nearly a decade I still sorta paid attention to him. I talked about his early teachings vs his later teachings, I said it was the group not him, I made tons of excuses. I tried to return to the group a few times, but always was burned, gaslighted, told I was lying. I literally was told events didn't happen the way I said by someone who joined years after me and didn't know any of the same people. Even then, I would still hold on. Finally I found new teachers, new teachings, and eventually could cut the ties. That new teaching? I don't follow that either, as that was like a rebound relationship. The thing is, even though you leave, you're struggling to find a comfort zone. You don't have one. While who you are is tied into the teacher/religion, so you have to find yourself. You have nothing and its tough. Its like being an alcoholic who goes sober.

Mike Rinder abused his family, assaulted and permanently injured his wife
Mike Rinder’s lies and criminality have extended to his own family. Several months after Rinder deserted his wife and children, doctors diagnosed his son, Benjamin, with a rare and highly aggressive form of malignant melanoma. The young man was given five years to live.
For nearly two years, Benjamin endured an excruciating but successful war against the cancer, including multiple disfiguring facial surgeries and reconstruction. Mike Rinder was never heard from once the entire time, even after he had moved to Safety Harbor, Florida-a 15-minute drive from Clearwater, where Benjamin lived.

Oooh, goody, another SCI-troll! You twit! Do you *really* think we are going to believe your lying drivel? Scientology has NEVER cared about its members' health or well-being! Sci is what forces families to *disconnect* from an escapee! Mike was not the perpetrator of such a grave sin; THEY are.
Folks, here you are seeing a precise example of the vicious lies to which Scientology members descend in their almost-frantic attempts to distract us from what ALL escapees tell us. People ARE physically beaten. They ARE starved. Worst of all: they ARE mentally tormented, lied to, and continually gaslit, until Up becomes Down, and No becomes Yes. This is done until the Logic portion of the brain is shut off, sometimes permanently. This is a personalized Psy-Op performed against each member.
This is often how victims of Narcissists are treated, as well. No difference!
