You ALWAYS temper first not the other way around. This way you know for a fact that the stat you want via enchanting will eventually pop up after enough gold is invested. Also, you will know sooner if the item gets bricked or not and if its worth investing the gold to get that 3rd stat you want on the item.

Just add 5tries to each of them affix tempers and not 5tries shared for both, or add a more expensive way of Tempering where you can at least choose one affix
Stage one of the itemisation in a nutshell. Stage two, learn to temper the gear first (cheap but only get 5 rolls before item is bricked) Then dump millions of gold rerolling one affix. Stage 3, sell all those potentially good items for 100m gold each and let someone else brick them. Stage 4 use gold from a bunch of those sales to buy your bis gear
I played around 30hrs. Went up to 100, completed 99% of the map then I started finishing my build. I gave up in 5hrs after losing 2 items by tempering lol. Dogshit game is made to be this way.
I finally found a +3 Bash chest piece, with *STR, SO I resolved the useless stat and got the top end Max Life on my third roll. Then got the Concussion rework on the first shot, but then bricked it on the second rework. I was P.O.'d, but my next good piece I got everything I needed, but my concussion was only +1, I was not about to rework it again and end up with a brick. I keep looking for perfect rolls, but this one is close enough for now.
Try rob's pity mechanic where you use a junk item and temper it 4 or so times in a row getting what you don't want, then on that 5th temper you swap to your favored piece and role. There's a good video of him doing this for his bash barbarian with triple GAs.

The tempering needs adjusting. They should make it so that most of the time you get a decent affix with a rare chance of it being either a godly affix or a bad affix. That way you have for example a 4/5 chance of it being positive, but there’s still some rng you can play for. Right now it seems like most of the time it’s a brick.
I feel that. Wand and focus with 2 GA gg rolls each brick to oblivion bavk to back 🤦🏽♂️ Blizzard PLEASE change this, I would grind like 120 grit sand paper to get materials to reroll tempers!
Right now for me tempering is like 9/10 times a brick, im not even looking for a perfectly rolled temper... just a temper with the stat i need yet it keeps rerolling any of the other 3-4 stats over and over or worse rerolls the same shitty stat 4 times. At least Masterworking you can reset if you dont like the results and can start over.

Roll your tempers on a junk item first. After you miss what you want 3-5 times in a row, start rolling it on your good item. It isn't perfect but I've avoided a lot of bricks this way
Call me crazy, but I actually enjoy having that aspect of RNG in my endgame itemization. I think it's one of the biggest things that's been missing from D4's item system. It still stings like hell when it doesn't hit though
Yeah, i think it's kinda okay to brick items, dog shit that the affixes are weighted. Just makes bricking more likely and just makes the tempering v system feel bad. Give us the max possible roll and end weighted affixes.
Shits crazy. Spent hours getting gear decent enough to temper just for it to be ruined because masterwork wants to roll on resistance or cooldown instead of damage. Running bleed bash barb and the main affix i need on amulet , heavy handed, I only seen once on an item and that was at level 60. Spent over 100 mil just on bad enchantments alone.
Why? I don't even start building a piece of equipment unless it has two stats I want on it. Helmet and amulets need cooldown and offhand needs double cooldown before I even spend gold or mats modifying it.

Im in the camp that D4 is still, not bad, but boring. I never thought it was bad, thats entirely subjective and if someone likes it, all the power to them. But I find it so boring, and these changes actually made it even more boring. Before it was boring because it was a grind, now its boring because its far too easy. But its still the same game, skills and builds and progression and the world are all still uninteresting. I'm done with D4 personally. It just isnt vibing with me like D3 did. Why wouldn't you temper before enchanting. The tempering is free, enchanting cost gold Edit: If you go to enchant a weapon and you just spent 30 million gold and then take it to the temper and you don't get your roll it becomes useless. Vice versa the mats that you use to make your tempers you get plenty of while you're doing everything else

They had to make at least one mess up besides nerfing the face of the game into the dirt. And I love the sorce but really make an endless fire shield ????? PvP serves no purpose now … my sorce can’t die and that’s weak af

I've bricked 6 items in a row over multiple days. I'm not even that far into the pit. I've stopped playing since. Tempering feels bad and not worth the time investment.
If the tempering works, I'm already looking forward to it. Especially on a good item. It's just not that easy, I think it would be boring if it went too fast and you maxed out after 1-2 weeks. You could definitely improve the theme. Starting with a better division of the recipes (maximum 4 and it should not be, one fits the rest garbage). Additionally an extremely rare item to reset the tempering. Or if you have hit a stat and still have an attempt or attempts left, that you only roll the value of the stat. This would greatly increase the value of tempo without making the game too "easy". Let's see what comes next. Blizz listens very carefully to customer feedback and is quite quick with the implementation.

I have bricked so many amulets at this point that its insane... It feels like I will never switch to a 925 amulet because of this.

The secret is to equip other gear opposite the rolls you need or play a different character to get the loot.
Temper first, enchanting is too expensive to chance doing it first.
Roll your tempers on a junk item first. After you miss what you want 3-5 times in a row, start rolling it on your good item. It isn't perfect but I've avoided a lot of bricks this way
