Umineko might be too figurative for an anime. A visual novel is fine because it's mostly words and plays with them but how can you animate it correctly?
Funfact: In the original novel, the "cat" only breaks the vase after one hour, not immediately. And yes, that's important. While the novel leaves this scene open for interpretation, the manga actually explains it in the last arc.

Actually, the answer is spoilers: Kumasawa just lied. There was no cat. Kumasawa, as the elder servant, was believed by the others. It is one of the methods of magic, telling a good narrative.

The problem is that the Anime never established a clear way of identifying the Clue *Mystery Scenes* that are used to fuel Blue Truth vs the Magic *Fantasy Scenes* that fuel Red Truth. And Battler already witnessed something impossible in the first episode that neither his piece nor his immediate meta-piece (soul) witnessed before learning the truth. Making the game impossible to beat.

However, in the Anime, Battler (supposed to have objective sight) witnessed Shannon and Kanon in the same room first hand. Which means that they must have independent bodies and aren't manifested by Yasuda at different times to manufacture Alibis.
Notice how it's a *black cat* that broke the vase after Virgilia--who was Beatrice at the time--fixed it after being broken the 1st time. Tried as hard as she could, but Beato could never find a happy ending for herself. Bernkastel, the Witch of Miracles made sure of that.

The anti fantasy theory or version of her story is very tragic and fucked up. I can see what ryukishi is trying to do in letting the gamer or reader decide which version is real similar to life of pi
The magic version is there to escape from reality. Do you want to expose the nasty side of a family that could have been otherwise wholesome and beautiful? Or blame everything on the supernatural and witches? The ultimate theme here is love. And love is something both real and magical.

Magic only exists when it cannot be observed and can only be 'witnessed' by an unreliable party. i.e. Lies and trickery. So long as someone's not there to witness it, then that third party can say that 'X' happened even if it was actually 'Y' that happened. So instead of 'I saw the butler stab the woman through the eye' it becomes 'I saw the witch use her servants to gouge out the woman's eye'.

Oh my god, I only watched the anime and reading the comments on some of the vids, the wiki etc. I just realised that the anime story is not even 10% of the vn story and Im glad cuz I didnt know wtf was happening in the anime, nothing made any sense and Im so sad that I wanted my time with it when they've explained nothing
The anime is OK. It is entertaining, very good at times but messy overall. You can watch it, I assure you that you will not be bored! The problem is that as an adaptation of a VN, it is a disapointed adaptation.
