As a kid I rode my bike to the mall theater and saw this movie. I loved it so much I stayed in my chair and watched it twice in a row. That was around 1970 and was instantly a huge Coburn fan ever since.
I saw this for the first time, at the cinema no less, this week. I was utterly blown away. One of Leone's best. I just keep thinking about it. What a moving story.
Great scene from what is actually a Dark film in uncut format. One of Coburn's finest role's, including Steiger's for that matter.. Incredible Soundtrack to match. Underrated and over looked. Another Leone Masterpiece. Thanks for the memories!! Brutes! Animals!
I’m so glad James Coburn turned down the Man with no name role. It was meant to be Clint Eastwood !! James is also badass and this character suits him well. Also henry fonda turned it down too. And he was good in once upon a time in the west. Every actor in Sergio Leone’s movies were in the right place. Perfectly !!
Rod Steiger's role was originally supposed to be played by Eli Wallach, but the Hollywood studio Leone was seeking backing from wouldn't put up the money unless one of their actors under contract, which was Steiger, played the part. Wallach had already committed to being in A Fistful of Dynamite, having turned down a role in another movie to work with Leone again. Leone had the unpleasant task of calling Wallach and informing him of the decision he had to make. Wallach said he was now out of 2 potential movie roles, and wanted at least a token payment in compensation. Leone refused; Wallach told Leone he would sue him. Leone barked, "Get in line!" and hung up on him! 😮

@@taracanyon1 Gotta say I love Steiger and Coburn and their chemistry. Both of them excude so much charisma. But I agree that perhaps Wallach and Harris would have been better. Jason Robards was also considered in Steigers role, would have loved to see him. His performance as Cheyenne in once upon a time in the west is one of the coolest characters I´ve seen
I recall a review of Road Warrior describing Bruce Spence's character being rather similar to James Coburn, and I get the feeling this character is where the similarity must have come from.
Noodles37UK European name for the movie was Once Upon A Time...The Revolution which made much more sense than either Duck You Sucker or A Fistful Of Dynamite. Especially considering this and the movies before and after it all comprise the Once Upon A Time trilogy.
this character is himself sort of a dynamite. he's tall, thin, and at a point, juan thinks he's drinking an explosive liquid. in the end, we don't know whether he's smoking a cigarrette or an explosive

As a Kid I smuggled Two bricks of M - 80s back from Mexico . And Proceed to blow the entire city up bit by bit . " Dwk you suckers "
1971. Great film.
Saw this as a child.... Didn't understand it totally but found it such a sad experience.
Fantastic film - picture, sound, actors - the music is almost another actor in the scene - almost a musical.

Dixie Burge wow Dixie cool 👍👍
Coburn is good in this...Steiger less so. The role of Juan was absolutely perfect for Wallach.

That is why we need the Firecracker!
James Coburn en a Fistful Of Dynamite
I love that Steiger was a southpaw..,
Overlooked. Shame someone kept changing the title around. How about Once Upon A Time In Mexico? Figures.

Dat stache.
Lol cool.
Scottish/ Irish and Swedish. Played Steiner in Cross of Iron.
In just few months there will be here - in Slovakia - more political prisoners than in Spain 1939-75, or Mexico/Mesa Verde 1910-17.
Is that Rod Steiger under that beard?
Yes
what's the song at 5:43
Ennio Morricone - March of the beggars
