I have the non-solar version. It's stupid buying the solar version for 150$ for more battery. With the standard version with 4 captor connect i have between 28 and 32h of battery. What kind of guy is on is bike for 28h non-stop??? My longest ride is 15h. after that i charge it for the next day.
I went from 520 to wahoo bolt to now a 1040 solar .. great choice. Yes it is larger than its competitors & initially a little concerned it was too large but soon realised it isn’t. The screen is so easy to read without having to strain. Overall it’s a powerful & great computer with all the bells & whistles .. love it!
you are not telling truth mate. its very hard to see the solar panel makes everything dim. i have to use it with full brightness on and its still crap all washed out colors. sending back exchanging for the base model 1040 better colors and brighter
Definitely wrong there mate. Your unit is definitely faulty. My 1040 solar isn’t at all dim & just checked the brightness level, it’s at 40% .. Yep, get it checked out👌

The question on this video is Edge 1040 or Karoo 2, i just purchased the Karoo 2 but found out on the last few rides that you cant turn off navigation guidance and the elevation has a mind of its own sometimes doubling the actual elevation climbed. The 1040 is twice the (now reduced) Karoo 2 price, wondering whether it is worth it?

However, having had the 800 series, the 1000 and now the 1030 - I am still bewildered by bad SW quality from Garmin - across many of their products - and for the Edge's what I'd call poor screen. Low NIT, low contrast, all you point out. I'd pay +25% for the same device with an high end color screen. Again - great video - subbed :)
Are you planning a 840 review any time soon? I think that’s my preferred option as the screen on the 1040 looks too big for me. Apart from the screen and the extra buttons (not sure why there are extra buttons on the 840) I get the sense everything else is the same.

I just ordered the 840S. I have a 1030+ and a Bolt 2. I find the 1030+ just too big on the front my stem, the big screen is nice in map mode, but its still just to large overall for me.

Hi, great video. I currently have the edge 1030. And considering upgrading to the non solar 1040. My main issue with the 1030 is that unlike my previous 520, it doesn't have the audible beep tones at the start of a strava segment, or when I reach my 10 mile laps etc Does the 1040 have the audible beep tones that I really miss. Thanks
I’m torn between edge 1040 and karoo2. The Hammerhead hammers battery with its bright screen though. I have an Epix pro watch so could keep in the same eco system? What to do?
@@Sportivecyclist finally bit the bullet. Just do 3 hour ride last weekend and the battery only dropped to 92% (with power meter, di2, speed sensor, HR connected). Not bad. The display I feel wahoo a bit better, much clearer to see during the ride, maybe its the solar layer caused this. It does feels more sophisticated though! However I wished garmin implement colored number/background on HR/power zones like wahoo.

i got this 1040 solar. its going st8 back its awful going fore the 1040 base non solar. the solar version is a waste of time living in uk the screen resolution is so washed out i just cant relax with it and for its price tag wow stay away from solar its not the best ,
all the colors are washed out its very dim its yak. because the colors are washed out its hard to see you have to turn brightness up and bang goes the battery life

840 has same functionality with buttons. What size are your tires on the bike in this video?

What power meter do you use ?
Well… I do own a stages crank power meter but it doesn’t seem to work. On my trainer it has power built in. Outside I ride ‘sans wattage’.
