  • This is fun beginner/intermediate combo or intermediate to advanced conditioning climb (switching sides with each climb). The apprentice climb starts in an apprentice on the ground, transitions to a jasmine and then finishes in a ballerina. Once you are able to do this combo on each side from the ground try putting it together and alternating sides! A great way to ascend the pole and dance your climb on spinning or static.

This was a great tutorial! Love the concise and clear language. I find it fascinating how you refer to that one move as ballerina, because when I started pole years ago it was taught to me as "hood ornament" and "ballerina" to me is a completely different move, so its intersting to see how different tricks go by different names in the pole world! Keep up the great videos :)

I used to hear it more often interchanged of ballerina and mast head. I now use the mast head more dominantly. So many pole tricks and names!! So glad you enjoyed the tutorial! How do you feel with this apprentice climb?

I love this as repeater climb option instead of always doing a circus climb to warm up.

Absolutely! In my pole classes I have my students do Circus climb, shoulder mount climb and apprentice climb as part of their conditioning.

I really appreciated the note that you need to have your knee level or pointing up when getting into the apprentice-- I am just learning this move, and my form is much better after hearing that.

So glad this tutorial was helpful for you. Quite often it's little adjustments like that knee positioning that can make or break a move. If you haven't already signed up for my weekly emails I'd highly recommend it for weekly tutorials, training tips and inspo at the link below. And it's all free!

Looks fantastic and seems like great conditioning! Do you have a video on Ballerina? I remember Apprentice is also a good progression for handsprings so I will give the climb a try!

Thanks Glenn. I have one that is a wheel down to a ballerina but I was thinking of putting together one that breaks down a few different ways into the ballerina. And yes the apprentice is one of the stepping stones towards the handspring!

Great tutorial, broken down very well. Thanks! Could you do a tutorial on Handsprings - the cartwheel from standing if that makes sense?! I haven;t done it in years and now when I try I get scared again!

Michelle I have a complete online workshop available on my website for the handspring. It also covers training your deadlift and iron X once you have your handspring as well.
