Nearly three years ago, in 2021 on March 30, Xiaomi revealed its plan to start making cars. Lei Jun, the company's CEO and founder, announced this during a public speech, stating that Xiaomi would invest 10 billion yuan (about 1.4 billion USD) into its car manufacturing business.
Now, Xiaomi has introduced two versions of its first electric vehicle (EV): SU7 and SU7 Max. The base model, SU7, is rear-wheel drive (RWD) and comes equipped with Xiaomi's in-house developed V6 motor, generating a maximum power of 220 kW and 400 Nm torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.28 seconds. With a battery capacity of 73.6 kWh, it offers a range of 668 km under the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) standard.
Xiaomi claims that the SU7 boasts impressive aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of only 0.195 Cd, making it one of the most aerodynamic production vehicles. Lei Jun emphasized the design inspiration for the lidar, which is situated on the windshield's top, likening it to the smoothness of a pebble. However, it's important to note that the version showcased in the video achieving the 0.195 Cd figure is without the lidar.
Inside the car, users will find a 16.1-inch central control screen with a 3k resolution, along with a 7.1-inch instrument panel for the driver. Additionally, there are two screens in the rear for passengers, which are essentially Xiaomi tablets called Mi Pads. The car also supports the Apple iPad. Navigation can be displayed on a 56-inch HUD (head-up display). Powering the cockpit operation system, HyperOS is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295. The automated driving system (ADAS), named Xiaomi Pilot, relies on two Nvidia Orin-X chips with 508 TOPs computing power.

@@martinm3422 not a collaboration with a car manufacturer from China. the reason why there is BAIC on the label is because xiaomi still haven't got a license to produce cars, and Beijing government negotiated with BAIC to help at the moment. All cars are produced in xiaomi owned factory not BAIC factory, and there is also no BAIC design and technology.

The Chinese EV supply chain is so mature companies like xiaomi, which has no experience in making cars, can build a nice car in 3 years, mostly by shopping around

@@teknosql4740 China has swallowed up most of the globe’s OEM work. I expect this car is largely a load of existing tech package up with a new snap and Xiomi software.
Apple’s plans were far too ‘in house’. They could have badge engineered something and added their spin for a fraction of the cost.
Not just shopping around, they put a lot effort in design, quality, and driving experience as well.
This is a masterpiece 👌🙂 Definitely prefer smart Xiaomi SU7 interior to spartan interior of Tesla 3.

@@servenbolt6340 I believe xiaomi is using Chinese blade batteries, and it quality is reliable (yet to see other parts of the car). BYD and other battery cars has been around for 10 years, I asked taxi drivers when I was there in Shenzhen, the HQ city of BYD, they spoke highly of these battery cars, said very little issues compare to pertol cars. It is hard to get a pass from taxi drivers. For them it is a money making tool. If they think it is worth it, it is probably worth it.

@@MKAnr1 so far it's been a hit, though it's basically the max model off the line, there is a reason why if u look around there is a lot of crashes, a 3s 0-60 car is not something people expect at the price they are selling 300k rmb which is 42k usd. a lot of normal people who are not the best are losing control and of course the attention because its xiaomi.
Reviews so far have been high praised by car enthusiast CC sayings it's the sportiest of the bunch of ev in china. Which usually is geared towards family orientation so suv and everything else but this is something that would absolutely translate well into eu market. and if its this popular in china, for even 60k euros people will buy it because its that much of a killer.
edit: ofc you speak of build quality, but it already beats tesla at panel gaps and really its not lacking in furnish. Its not actually cheaping out on materials either. I wish it would be possible to drive outside china, but thats a lot of cost most wont pay.
I think a big thing people missed is the fact xiaomi the company only decided to jump on this EV bandwagon 3 years ago in the early 2021. 3 years only my friend, wtf.
Oh well, Chinese government has long term plans. They planned this more than a decade ago. They have most complete supply chain of EV so that making an EV is like putting legos together. This is the fruit from more than 15 years of dedication and planning.

as long as these vehicles are fixable/repairable after three years and not treated as disposable like mobile phones then we should see an interesting future - I am worried that cars are moving towards disposable consumption model

Already happening in Singapore decades ago. Ownership of a car in Singapore is up to 10 years thereafter you need to scrap it or if you need to drive the car again for the next 10 years you need to pay at least around $50k

I've read that it's long 4997 mm, wide 1963 mm, and tall 1455 mm, with an impressive wheelbase of 3000 mm. So it is similar to a Panamera

This car is similar to but slightly wider than model 3 in dimensions. So if model3 is ok, this should be ok too
