Professors' Kids Explain What Their Parents Do

  • Fifteen Minutes Magazine asked the children of Harvard professors what their parents do. Video by Cynthia Guo and Alana M. Steinberg | The Harvard Crimson.
    Participating professors:
    Dr. Matthew S. Desmond: John L. Loeb Associate Professor of the Social Sciences and codirector of the Justice and Poverty Project. He researches urban sociology, poverty, race and ethnicity, organizations and work, social theory, and ethnography.
    Dr. Tessa J. Lowinske Desmond: Administrative Director and Lecturer for the Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights. She focuses on contemporary multi-ethnic fiction, politics in literature, and food studies.
    Dr. Joshua W. Buckholtz: assistant professor of Psychology. He focuses on characterizing the cognitive architecture of self-control, identifying distinct brain circuits supporting different kinds of self-control, and understanding how dysfunction in these circuits leads to impulsive decision-making in drug addiction, aggression, psychopathy, and personality disorders.
    Dr. Margo S. Levine: lecturer in Applied Mathematics. Her research interests include modeling physical/biological phenomena and systems.
    Dr. Rowan K. Flad: John E. Hudson Professor of Archaeology. His research focuses on the emergence and development of complex society during the late Neolithic period and the Bronze Age in China.
    Matthew J. Liebmann: John and Ruth Hazel Associate Professor of the Social Sciences. His research focuses on the archaeology of the Southwest U.S., with a specialization in the contact period and the historic-era Pueblos of New Mexico.
